So there have been many crossfit threads, ad nauseam, but now Reebok has gone and coined Crossfit the official “Sport of Fitness.” I mean, The crossfit games are interesting to watch I will certainly agree. But I have questions to discuss about this.
Was bodybuilding ever the official “Sport of Fitness?”
IF Crossfit now has that moniker, where does it leave bodybuilding?
I was flabbergasted when I watched this video last night with the current champ Rich Froning, and his other top competitor at the time. They did Five workouts, FIVE workouts in one day! Crazy! I mean I got to give them props. But it seems to me, dare I say it, that crossfit is eclipsing bodybuilding…
When Rich Froning takes his shirt off, and later in the video, Dan Bailey does the same, I think most guys wouldn’t complain with wanting those type of physiques.
It’s a long video, but worth watching in my opinion.
Well there’s different classes of bodybuilders…lightweight and so forth…you wouldn’t call a bodybuilder fit? Some morso than others…but if you’re a bodybuilder does that mean you’re not fit? The two aren’t so different in my eyes.
I’ve done two a days for martial arts training…weights in the morning…martial arts/sparring at night…and I’m spent…but what these guys do in the video is crazy to me. Five workouts in one day? Doing that much volume in a day has to get mad respect.

But the lighter the class the shorter the the competitor.I mean sure they weigh 140-150 lbs but, they are like 5’3. Some bodybuilders may be fit but, that is not the goal. I do not think they care how fast they can run or for how long.
My younger brother who is a college athlete is geting into crossfit and is doing this one workout called death by burpee where u do burpees around a track. Seems kinda pointless just like the whole debate over Crossfit vs w.e

Eh…I see what you’re saying but are you calling bodybuilders unfit? I mean fitness in description isn’t only about how much you can handle aerobically…

No, I think there are fit bodybuilders but, it is not something they work towards. The main concern is building an aesthetic muscular body. Aerobic conditioning may not be the only thing but, I think it is part of being fit.
It is cool to watch but, I do not know if I would call crossfit the “sport of fitness” then again since there is no specific goal and it includes strength, endurance, conditioning etc. it could be.
Reebok are pulling whatever marketing shit they can. But exercising definitely isn’t a sport.
That said though, I wouldn’t call most bodybuilders fit in the traditional sense. I mean they’re definitely strong, but their focus is on getting huge, not conditioning, so they neglect a huge component.
Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just not their focus.
I hesitate to call a crossfitter the epitome of fit however. Although that might be because I detest most holier-than-thou crossfitters. Ever been to the crossfit forums? Horrible. But the top guys are some awesome athletes
Froning got considerably bigger/more conditioned between the filming of these two videos. His reaction to the steroid question caught my eye… I personally think he and all the other top competitors are juiced to the gills [like most sports]. Doesn’t take away from his hard work and/or genetics, just thought his response was a li’l silly.

I don’t think body building ever was the official sport of fitness. When I was a kid Bruce Jenner was on the Wheaties boxes and Arnold Schwarsahowthefuckdoyouspellthat and a few other people were Mr. Universe.
Where does anything leave anything else?
Given the exposure of the past 10 years of the ugly side of bodybuilding, like rampant drug abuse and death- I doubt that many people will ever delude themselves into thinking that bodybuilding has anything to do with fitness.
Do those “elite athletes” get tested? They’d be full retard not to use if they dint.
Bodybuilding is a judged event, similar to a car show. How well did you prepare, is your car(genetics) good enough to start with are the real variables of the competition.
Strongman competitions are better comparison for cultfit.

I actually do two a days five days a week, weights and martial arts but with my Jeet Kune do am aiming for 1,000 punches and 1,000 kicks of reps in one day on top of the lifting… You ever feel a little burnt out or over reached from doing it, or just sore?
I am trying to figure out why I have so many nagging problems myself especially in the rear delts and with the kicking, doing the Indigo program is exhausting… If I wasn’t using the supplements I probally would not be able to recover and continue to do as much as I am lol
