Huh, I guess that proves that then.
Actually he is one of the fastest out there when it comes to top speed. 23mph is as fast as it gets in professional football. The Premier League record when I last checked was 22.95mph (Leroy Sane - Man City).
Iām sorry but Mandzukic is nowhere near Ronaldo in terms of all-round athleticism. Not even close.
Errrrm where did I say that??? Itās you who does not seem to understand āwell-roundedā (itās in the thread title mate) athleticism as you seem to be fixated on top speed, which is only one aspect of āwell-roundedā athleticism (again, clue is in the title).
Oh dear.
No they absolutely do not. Most of them (us) do not get close to 10km a game.
Weāre really not. Iād like to think my arguments on here go someway to proving thatā¦
I also donāt think that guy is a particularly big football (futbol) fan.
Actually a lot of them donāt. In fact, most footballers donāt do any kind of heavy squatting at all. Rugby players and the guys in the NFL squat/clean/etc a lot more than footballers. In fact, itās not even close.
I laughed but I think he missed the joke.
There used to be a program called Superstars that aimed to test exactly this. While it was far from a perfect test, it at least painted a general picture.
From the few episodes Iāve actually seen, the football (soccer) players routinely did ok, not great. Rugby players routinely came out as top dogs, along with a few from less well known sports. Brian Jacques the judo player, for example was a superstars legend.
Since I used to play ami soccer. I averaged a 8 km per game and I played defensive mid or Central Defender. These are the least running positions.
When I said a walk in the park I meant Rugbi playera do not rung such long distances. With a chess game I meant the long stops in american football. It is another animal when you have to run for 90 mins, keep concentration, calmness and perform. It is a completely different when you are able to stop and take a breather.
And Ronaldo vs Mandzhukic. There is a term in the Italian football called grinta. It means having a heart or a fighting spirit. Mandzhukic has this. He is playing different positions, he runs the most in Juventus and his defensive contribution is insane. Ronaldo is a player who saves his energy for offensive performance. Sure he is super talanted when it comes to it, but he will not be able to give the output Mandzukic gives.
The mere fact you are not able to recognise who is a better athlete between these 2 speaks volumes about your ability to recognise athleticism.
So, what you are saying is ultra marathon runners are actually the most impressive, well rounded athletes?
The fact you persist with this myopic focus on one element of athleticism that you find most impressive speaks volume about your ability to understand the question being asked.
Maybe he is actually Mandzhukic, or whoever that guy is. Heās trying to get the world to recognize his greatness, one forum post at a time.
Here, to show that I am perfectly capable of understanding what is being asked, which athletes are the most impressive and well-rounded, I give my example:
Is this full contact arm wrestling? Is this a thing? Beautiful madness
This kind of raises a topic I was discussing a few days ago with someone. What successful athletes/sports people have gone on to be successful in a different field?
There was a documentary on TV in England about Chris Hoy (multi-gold medal Olympic cyclist) who is now competing in motorsports. I also heard about Usain Bolt playing professional soccer but I do not know if anything came of it. And then thereās Eddie Hall going from swimming to strongman but Iām not sure how good of a swimmer he was.
He never competed AT the top, but was on an olympic swimming pathway I believe so all signs are he had the potential. He won national level swimming championships at least once.
No. Theyāre not. You clearly didnāt play to a particularly high standard if you think the above. In fact the likes of Kante, Henderson and Ndidi (all defensive midfielders) regularly come out on top in the Premier League distances covered tables week in week out.
I donāt completely disagree with the above, I donāt completely agree either but I wonāt quibble here.
Thanks, I am aware of this phrase having lived in Italy before. Ronaldo epitomises the phrase āgrintaā actually. He has consistently dragged a sub-standard Portugal team over the line in both tournaments and qualifying. Look whatās happened to Real Madrid since he left. Also, what does this have to do with being the better all-round athlete?
10/10 for irony. Itās not even a contest. Pace, strength, jumping, agility, even just looking at the two visually, Ronaldo comes out on top in every single department. Come on man.
He is an awful footballer. Truly truly awful. Zero technique. Would struggle in Sunday league. And I like the guy!
Thereās a guy I mentioned earlier: Sonny Bill Williams.
He has boxed professionally seven times, winning all of his heavyweight bouts.
He won various individual awards and team trophies whilst playing rugby league.
He has won various individual awards and team trophies (including the World Cup) playing rugby union.
Represented his country in both rugby codes. Not only that but reached the absolute pinnacle of both rugby codes.
6 foot 4, 17 stone, strong as an ox, agile, heās a decent all rounder in my opinionā¦

Absolute beast. Manages to stand out in a world cup winning All Blacks team last time I watched the world cup. Albeit, they were short Dan Carter at the time.
I have a friend who plays O-line in the NFL that basically never played football growing up. Heās just naturally big (6ā7") and walked on in college. Heās not a household name, though. Heās warmed a lot of benches and played on a lot of practice squads.
Well that is your average āwell roundedā athlete around here. Guy that is big and has never played the sport entering the sport cause the talent pool in the sport is small.
That is like a soccer pick up game in the hood. You put the fattie as a goal keeper, cause you need people, nobody wants to be a goal keeper and he can barelly run. But according to tnation that is athletic, because he is big.
