Upon arriving to my second home, myself and the other dudes decided that today should be a light day, as we were all still a bit banged up from previous sessions and such. So, seeing as how it was a chesticle day, I opted to do about 5 sets of triples. My plan was to keep it at around 250.

20, 19, 18…all the way to 1. This was actually fun. Of course, one partner decided he had to go to work when we got to 11. Many jokes and taunts were sent his way as he departed. This didn’t suck until we got to 6.

The highlight of the session was getting a glimpse of Rico Suave not-so-subtley “fixing” his female training partner from behind on Barbell Rows. Then pumping himself up to row 225. It became more like he was pulling his body down to the bar. So much movement… good laugh.

So today was a pretty uneventful day. I slept in this morning, as I ended up staying up pretty late last night, then went thru the motions for most of the day. I did manage to organize my dvds and get some things prepared to ship back to Germany, so that was a plus. The day didn’t take it’s normal downward spiral until I got to the gym.

I got there by my scheduled time of 1630, however, the two training partners were already there, working out. When they spot me, they ask why I’m late. I nipped that one in the bud quickly, as I keep telling them times are 430 and 1630. Then to make matters worse, they bitch out of the day’s work, because they are sore and tired, so they opt to do other stuff. This irritated the shit out of me.

First of all, I had my reservations about taking on training partners. Second, soreness is a part of the game. Intensity is a part of the game. Not only do they half-ass the work, but now they opt out because they are sore from chest yesterday? Yeah…walking papers are on their way. So, with that fuel for my fire burning brightly, here is today’s work:

Not sure what’s gotten into me, but these past few days have been pretty damned intense in that gym. Three days, three PRs. I guess I can probably attribute this to getting tired of the training partners half-assin stuff. While one didn’t show up today, the other has to be told to quit sand-baggin and lift some damned weight. I don’t like baby-sitting. Especially not in the gym. If you’re attempting a hang-clean, and you end up snatching it instead, your load is probably a little light. Then of course, a time limitation is placed upon the session. I ignored this. Me thinks it’s time to have a chat with the training partners. Shit just ain’t meshing.
Aside from that, it feels like Mr. Black has slipped out. Talk about intensity… When dudes literally stop themselves from asking a question, or take one look, then quickly put their hands up and turn away, I think there is a bit of teeth showing. Not sure why this side is coming out, but hell…if it leads to lifting heavier and going longer, so be it.
The pic is of Alexander Karelin. A legend on the mat. The first living Monster I’ve ever seen. Truly an inspiration for me. The look of intensity in that man’s eyes was a huge motivation for me when I was wrestling in high school, and is still a huge motivator for me today. With that, onto today’s work.

I was feeling very froggy. Of course, there was a highlight for the evening. A dude with the typical large, muscled upper-body & chicken legs, decided to climb the rope. But he didn’t just come back down…oh no. He proceeded to do 10 pullups in the rafters, then slid down. In my head, I’m just like “Really? You want attention that badly?” Why did I think that? Because he is the dude that is usually in there with no real purpose. Does a set of this exercise, then a set of something else, then disappears…then returns some time later to do something else. Had a run-in with him a week ago. I’d just put some plates on the barbell, then went to grab a towel. When I returned, a plate was missing. He took it and put it on his barbell. I just looked at him, then the plate. He put it back. I look forward to the day I have my own gym equipment. Certain people seem to annoy me. Perhaps it’s just out here.

What a week it has been… Sorry for the disappearance, folks. I’ve just spent the last week down on Kandahar due to not one, but TWO ulcers in my right eye. I now have a good idea of what Riddick felt like in Pitch Black! My eyes were already a lil sensitive to light, but damn, that shit HURT!!! So, a week of treatment and no physical activity, and here I am. After putting all kinds of shit in there, I can see again.

Have to say, taking the week off was not good for me. Although I got a bit of studying done, and killed 5 books, I came back here very much on edge… Not a good thing for people who are prone to annoying me. So, seeing as how it was a chest day, I decided to just let it all hang out.

Upon completion of the pullups, I was approached by the two SGMs. The “icebreaker” was a question regarding my shins being wrapped. After explaining about deadlifts, they brought up the fact that I’m studying for my PT cert. This tells me someone has been letting my name come out of their mouths. I have a good idea who. This inevitably led to being questioned about my desire to get out of the military. Rather than continue playing Q&A, I, rather diplomatically, let them know how and why my separation would be mutually beneficial. I left it at that. On that note, I’ve got some chicken and rice calling my name. I’ll close this with a pic I think will always remind me of this place. Til tomorrow…
