Hi Beast

There are ways of doing this on the cheap.

My interest is piqued. [/quote]

If you have no problem with buses. Some people do but it is the cheapest. You can get something called a Discovery Pass(a bus pass for Canada and USA) for up to 60 days for $556(us). There are some rules here’s a link http://www.discoverypass.com/ . There is mention of a military discount for regular tickets but not the pass. I’ve bought these things twice and have had no problems with them. I always had places to stay when I traveled(usually) so I never looked into youth hostels. The cost of a hostel membership for USA is $28 a year and then you pay 25-45 per night for a big city like NY or 15-20 per night for a smaller place. Cheaper than a hotel. Here’s a link for them. http://www.hiusa.org/ . I have been feeling the wanderlust thing lately too so I’ve been looking into it. lol

Definitely something to look into, although, I’d probably foot the bill for a hotel. I’m not considered “youth”, and I’d rather not be stuck amongst a bunch of them. Appreciate the info.

So…with ample time on my hands today, I finally decided to throw a few darts at a map to see where I’ll disappear. Fittingly, the dart landed right smack in the middle of some mountains, so I am pleased, to a degree. It’ll be strange to overlook the land from atop one of the mountains and realize that life as I knew has ended. It’s almost a frightening thought, actually. Starting over. As many times as I’ve attempted this, this time will really be different, as I’ll know not a soul, just as nobody will know me.

At the moment, I'm chuckling a bit as I'm imagining myself doing what some would call "re-inventing" myself. This strikes me as funny simply because I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to do such a thing. I already know I'm going to be a very odd duck, as my interests will inevitably throw many people off. Story of my life, really, but this time it'll be funny to see the looks on their faces. I do have to scratch my head about freshmen housing, however. I'm opposed to the idea of living in dorms with a bunch of pimple-faced boys. I don't see that happening, and will most likely request that it doesn't happen when I do reach out. This is called conflict-avoidance in my head.

There is, as I mentioned earlier, quite a bit of fear on my part. Especially in the social department. With no restraints or ties or whatever, I can't help but wonder how the "normals" will view me. Will I be perceived as too intense or overwhelming? Will I continue to have missteps? Or will I finally find where I belong? Think I'll try to sleep with the latter in mind. Always better to go to bed with hope rather than despair.

I like this song.

And I think I belonged in this era…

Oh no. That was mentioned more in a “tongue-in-cheek” fashion. I refuse to do that.

Hope things sort out for you, Beast. If that picture is a view from where you’ll be, I’m jealous. I love being in the mountains for whatever reason. Helps me with a lot of pondering and reflecting type stuff.

That, and I get to run wild while in there, so I love the mountains. “Free” feels best there, for now.

I’m not sure what mountains those are but bring a big gun for the bears.

What a week it’s been thus far! Haven’t been putting in the work, as I’ve been cooking out and drinking all week. This will continue tonight and tomorrow, as well. Crown and Patron have been my boys. Tonight, I am getting reacquainted with Ciraq(sp?), then venturing out into the world to cause a bit of mayhem. Looking forward to this.

And so, the nights of decadence have passed. Back to the grind I’ve gone, and so far, so good.

Ruck March w/40lb Pack
10k

Was planning on doing about 14k, however, I got pretty damned hungry sooner than expected. With the next four days off, one day at work, then ALL of June off, expect the workload to increase greatly. My vacation project has begun.

Hi Beast
Will there be pics of the vacation?
What is a ruck march is it just a hike with a weighted pack? Would any pack do for this as long as it can hold the weight?

Hey Charlie. I’ll be sure to take pics of the things I do during this break. I’ve been slacking in that department, unfortunately. As for rucking, the pack is weighted (when in the swing of things, I usually go with 50-60lbs) and you walk fast. Like you’re in a hurry to get from Point A to Point B, as fast as possible. I’m working my way back up to a consistent 20K. The pack needs to be strong enough to hold the weight, and be used on a constant basis.

Now, for today’s work.

^ No! :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately I don’t have a pack that can handle a heavy weight but I would probably start out light first anyway. I like walking so I may add a little weight to my walks.
Are you a hiker and a camper? Is that why you want to live near or live in mountains?

Outside of the military, I’ve never gone camping. Something I am looking to change at some point down the line. I do enjoy hiking quite a bit. And for me, mountains = peace.
