The Man In The Cellar

Stopped in to catch up and WTF, you’ve been through it this past week. Beast, I truly appreciate you for doing what you do. Thanks for your service. Glad to hear that you made it to KAF. I hear that it is pretty ‘nice’ (by over there standards.) I have a patient who’s son is deployed and he was recently there. Apparently it was like vacation for that weary truckin’ soldier. Anyway, have a safe trip back to Germany

First of all I will say this. My job allows/pretty much ensures that I establish long-term relationships with my patients. As such, they come to trust me and talk to me about everything and anything. Over the years, I have had several ex-military/guard members who’ve laid on the table and told me about their experiences. You’re story regarding your team and the issues that you are dealing with is not that uncommon from what I’ve heard. That really sucks. Especially that you bore the brunt and it lead to your breakdown and the drugs and whatnot. FWIW I’ve also got several patients who take Seroquel and the malaise or whatever you want to call it also seems to be common. Hope that the change of venue inspires some other changes in your work situation, whatever they may be… it ALWAYS works out for the best. It just has to, no?

Very nice to see a little GVT action in here. That shit is so crazy. Guess that’s probably what attracts people like you and I to it. Pure insanity, focused on just pushing or pulling and watching the clock. And it is so gratifying when you’re done. Not sure how many weeks I’m doing, my body will keep me posted and let me know if I’m overstepping my limits. Planning anywhere from 4-6 weeks. We’ll see.

Best of luck on all fronts. Can’t wait to hear that you are safe in the arms of one a certain soon-to-be-doctor in Germany.

Here’ some Jeru for you. This song made me think of you for many reasons: the martial arts/violence, the determination, but also the eloquent lyrics. Your thread has definite literary value IMHO. Thanks for being you and sharing that with all of us.

Have to say, it’s been a very interesting couple of days. I’ll go over it in a bit, as I’m about to run out of time on this computer (USO). I will say that Kandahar is the fucking CESSPOOL of Hell!!! Literally. They turn off our water for 23 hours out of the day, only to turn it on in the middle of the night sometime. Not cool! :stuck_out_tongue:

We’ll all be happy to hear that you are safe and sound back in Germany.

Have a good trip, Beast.

Another day down, another day closer to leaving. Just when you think things can only get better, we spent the day moving from bay to bay, as people couldn’t figure out where they wanted to place the incoming unit. I could only laugh. I laughed harder as they locked all the bathrooms. It was no big deal to go holler at the Air Force dudes and ask to use theirs.

If they’d said no, I would have used it anyway. Don’t think they’d be in much of a tither to throw my naked wet ass out. Probably have a few of them blushing and shit. But, on to some personal shit.

Prior to leaving Lagman, my supervisor asked to talk with me one-on-one, as I expected she would. She opened up with her thoughts on my apathetic attitude towards menial tasks I’d been given up to that point. Then she informed me of what my job would be upon our return to Germany. Felt like a switch was flipped, as I was seeing red.

I started losing my cool, and as I always try to remain in control of myself, I thought it better to just walk. I took two steps and froze. I’ve never been one to hear voices and such, but at that moment, the switch was thrown back, and I heard two voices: Bre’s, telling me that I needed to stop, give the benefit of the doubt, and try to see the bigger picture; and my shrink’s (whom I’d been seeing for just a week, and she already had me questioning a lot about myself), reminding me that I needed to actually sit and clear the air with my supervisor once and for all, as we will be working together for my remaining time in the military.

So, with those two ladies slapping me upside my head, I went back and asked if we could sit down somewhere to talk about everything. I would go into details, however, with just 9 minutes left before I gotta get up (USO), I’ll just say that I had to force a couple of pivotal truths down my throat and own up to some things.

For now, I’ll close with this evening’s work.

Time to go wash my ass and prepare for tomorrow’s work. Before I go, I think now is a good time to thank all of you for constantly reading/listening to my gripes/bitching/pissing/moaning/raging/joking/other stuff. You all helped keep me somewhat sane, and would not hesitate to call bullshit on some things. Although this is the interwebs, I think we can all agree that this is a community unlike many others, and I truly appreciate you all. Now…time to walk back into the lovely aroma of ass and cornchips!!

Beast, the Air Force guys wouldn’t give you shit for using their bathrooms man, they’d probably offer to wipe your ass, freakin clowns.

That’s really awesome that you delt with that situation in your mind, “heard” what you knew you needed to hear, and handled it. Bravo.

Keep sane over there man, tick tock!

Travel safe, brother

Semper Fi

the water may be off, but look at that! You still got a facking gym! Nice DLs/Pendlays. You’ll have to help me with those, etc.

Gladly, Beauty.

This morning, I was feeling the effects of last night.

16 April 2011

Stretching/Yoga x 1 hour

I support your yoga initiative. You can never be too big or badass for some warrior posing…

Wow. That’s all I’ve got. Wow. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t mean to be lame, but after reading that post about hearing the two voices to settle your shit, I had to respond: It’s amazing what a good woman can do for stuff like that. On a much smaller level (I’m certainly in no imminent danger where I’m at), I react to everything in a calmer and more steadfast fashion since I’ve been with the lady I’m dating. I don’t snap and overreact on people anymore, and if I do ever get to that point, I’ve always got the iron to take it out on. A friend from college even remarked how much more relaxed and happy I am about everything these days.

Good luck with the rest of your travels, man.

Glad you’re staying safe.

Not lame at all. It’s all about appreciating the good people in your life.

16 April 2011
Evening

Bench Press

145 x 10 x 1
235 x 5 x 1
325 x 3 x 1
325 x 4 x 1
345 x 3 x 1
355 x 3 x 1
365 x 3 x 1
375 x 3 x 1
385 x 2 x 1
415 x 1 x 1

I quit after that. Fuck. Yes. My motivation was two-fold this evening. First, I’m growing pretty excited to see Bre this week (hands in the air!) And second, here at the Kandahar gym, there are a few muscle-heads that have their own entourages and such. As I was completely solo, I just added those guys as fuel. I introduced the gym, in all it’s hot, sticky, way-overcrowded, stinkin ass glory to “THE MAN IN THE CELLAR!!” With a look of pure intensity, Slayer screaming in my ears, and a small crowd standing around watching, I just kept adding more and more weight. My yells grew as the weight did. The eyes upon me grew in number. When I hit 385, I decided to just say “fuck it.” Put 405 (add 10 for the collars) on the bar, and with no setup or prelift bs, just got under it, picked it up, and put it up. Talk about feeling like the motherfucking man! Yes, I’ll whole-heartedly admit to enjoying the huge ego boost, as dudes were patting me on the back and shaking my hand. Fuck it, I’ll take it. This was my “Fuck You!” for this entire deployment. Great way to end it, as I’ll be flying out of here tomorrow night. For now, it’s time to pound some water and kick back.

^But did anyone ask you if you needed a spot?! looks like we both got our ego boost last night. It’s on! Also, was that a PR? also, ^that^ was a great post  also…just kidding.

Have fun in Germany.

I’m going to check out this GVT thing soon.

What are rest periods like? Any exercises that GVT is NOT well suited for?

Yes, a couple of big meatheads asked. I declined.
For out here, I suppose I could call it a PR, although, if I would have touched it earlier, I probably could have gone a bit heavier. Not braggin or nothing… :stuck_out_tongue:

Watched several people fall out this morning from standing. It was funny. And by “fall out”, I mean pass out. Literally.

I’ll most definitely attempt to have this thing you call “fun.”

Rest periods are 1:00 min for the lifts. Unless you’re doing squats or deads, then it’s 1:30.

I do it for any exercise I see fit, save for O lifts.

^ I fixed it.

so when do Beauty and the Beast finally meet?
