The Last Airbender

Can they even do Uncle Iroh correctly in a movie like this? The man goes from what is perceived to be just a tea drinking old clueless fat man to being one of the most bad ass fire benders in the nation who all by himself concealed the existence of the last two dragons on the planet by faking their deaths…all while becoming built as a brick shit house in the process.

^Expect much of his story to be watered down! His past could be a story all by itself what was it they called him? Dragon of the west? something like that. The first to learn how to control and redirect lightning, General that almost defeated the Earth Kingdom. No way they would have to make one movie on him alone.

My family is really excited to see this film.

How many from the cast of “The Expendables” are over 50? To make season 1 Iroh stick a pillow under the kimono and keep the actor drunk most of the time. To make season 3 Iroh take a way the pillow, sober him up, let him catch somebody sleeping with his wife.

Trust me none of the above will spoil 1min of the show for you. Keep watching.

So, up to Season 3 Episode 309: Nightmares and Daydreams.

Aang hallucinating was probably the most entertaining part of this show, ever. The animals fighting was brilliantly done. Momo and Flying Bison having Samurai Showdown had me giggling like … the target demographic of Avatar TLA.

Also, the episode is home to the greatest one-liner in the history of the series,

“No, Firelord Ozai; You’re the one not wearing any pants!”

Haha! That and “Look out, it’s a platypus bear!” (or however it goes) had me laughing for quite some time.

So… Season three is finished. So I’m basically just sitting on my hands until the movie comes out July 2nd.

I really appreciate two things about Avatar TLA

  1. Characters actually kiss. As compared to the japanese model, where love interests blush and act nervous around each other while pining about how the other person doesn’t see them the way they see the other person for episodes at a time.

  2. Things happen by the end of an episode. The only fight scenes that took longer than a single episode to get through is at the very end, and frankly, those were worth splitting between episodes. None of this DBZ/Chunin-Exam-Orochimaru-Fight nonsense.

Also, the Toph death scene was pretty cool.

But no, seriously. What happened to Zuko’s mother?

The Firelord apparently banished her from what i can tell…but I always figured he could have just as easily killed her.

I don’t think Zuko ever got an answer to that question.

I thought I had lost my mind because I did not remember seeing this… went back and watched the final episode… HA

My guess is that she is dead. I dont see how she could have survived, its not like people wouldnt recognize who she was.

Wasn’t there a deleted scene or something on the DVD’s? I read there was, but that could have been nonsense. The interwebz is full of nonsense.

I agree with the ‘she’s banished’ bit, but… yeah, like the other guy said, where did she go? Ba Sing Se? The water tribes would have killed her, the air nomads were dead…

I also read M. Night Shamalayahamarama has decided to answer this question in his trilogy. I hope its a good one.

new

In defense of Dragon Ball Z, the reason fights took long was because they needed filler. The comics books weren’t nearly as bad and Dragon Ball Kai is close to the Manga.

I posted in another thread that I had watched all three seasons over the course of a few days. I was amazed at how great of a series it is. The smaller story arcs, the larger ones, the character arcs, the fighting…man, this show just delivers on all fronts.

I can’t help but vote Toph as my favourite character. Metal bending is pretty bad-ass, and the “shave and a haircut” fight in part one of Sozin’s Comet had me cheering. “That’s how it’s done!”

I’m dreading how short-changed all of the characters are going to feel in the movie. Katara and Iroh definitely seem like they’ll suffer the most. Mae Whitman had Katara down cold. The unseen but implied bad-assery of Iroh’s prison break overwhelmed me with a giddy, childish glee.

Interesting read it links to the directors interview about “racism” in the movie
