The Last Airbender

Going by the IMDB site, it doesn’t look like Bumi or Toph are in this movie. Which leads me to believe they’re doing more than one movie, because there is no way they could just omit characters so integral to the story.
Guys, they are signed to three movies. Azula isn’t in this one either. The climax, judging from the preview, will be the North Pole battle. Azula, Toph, Bumi and many others don’t show up until after that.

Spent the last few days watching Avatar again and as a friend of mine said about Bay when Trasformers came out, shyamalan if you fuck this up for me…!!

It’s almost inevitable. I’m just glad I enjoyed the series. In all these trailers I hadn’t seen much personality so I’m expecting another soulless moneymaker. Maybe if Shyamalan and Bay come out and start living together there will be less franchise rape.

I wouldn’t go there at all. While you may call movies like Unbreakable and the Village “less than advertised” (because his movies are NOT horror movies even though they often promote them as such) the one thing the man gets right is building some sort of character…even if it is the dopey way he treated Mark Whalberg in The Happening.

What “all action and no character” movie has Shyamalan ever done?

He stated in interview that he watched all of these episodes with his kids and that is what made him decide to make it into a movie.

I don’t see how you compare this to GI Joe’s piece of crap.

The movie UNbreakable is a perfect beginning to a super hero franchise (they had planned sequels but it didn’t do well at the box office)…only he released it BEFORE the current trend of mega money super hero movies and they didn’t promote it as one…even though that is what Bruce Willis is supposed to be.

Unbreakable is probably one of the most under recognized movies ever. Having said that and having watched the Avatar series. I can’t help but worry that this is going to be another great anime series butchered to the point where is it barley distinguishable when compared to the original, much like Dragonball evolution when compared to the Dragonball series. Though i doubt they will take it to that level given the feedback Evolution had.

I just wonder when the people making these movies are going to realize that what makes it great and what built that fan base in the first place was the original storyline and character development. Yet every single movie i see based off a comic or a anime seems to have there own altered version of the original story and almost always leaves out at least one character integral to the plot. For the record i know it’s hard to capture the essence of an entire season of anime into one movie. But i feel like it can be done a LOT better then it has been done in the past.

If this movie is 90 minutes long you can almost guarantee is will be ass.

All I’m saying is that I want to hear them talk, because that’s a huge aspect of the series atmosphere. So far, the bits with Kitara and Iroh were too short to see what the deal is. This is also a big departure for Shyamalan, who’s used to pure suspense and mysticism so I hope it’s not gonna be a testament to him being a one-trick pony. But either way, I’m going to see it so who am I kidding…

Looks more promising now, if this fails then i am gonna go vegetarian and make a house out of dried up shit like the vegans did during the ice age while the rest of us used fur.

I guess that’s why I got into it…because I NEVER saw it on tv. I firs bought it at WalMart because the packaging looked interesting and was instantly hooked. I didn’t even find out it was on Nickelodeon until after watching half of it so I never got that “must be just for kids” impression.

It isn’t just for kids. They don’t cuss in it, but it is pretty clear that Sokka was getting it on with his girlfriend in the tent in the last season.

Every character in that show went through some huge transformation by the end of it…with Zuko’s uncle being the most impressive.
I ended up watching the entire thing, thanks to this thread.
I watched it all in 3-4 days.
Great fucking series.

The way the characters changed was really good.
I found myself rooting for Sokka much more than Ang or Katara.
My favorite characters were Zuko and Iroh.
Some of the scenes with Zuko are so powerful. Especially since everything is so tragic.

Spoiler:

The scene where he learns to redirect lightning and Iroh refuses to shoot lightning at him is fucking sick. Then Zuko goes out during a storm, screaming at it. He never gets hit by lightning. The way he becomes frustrates, has tears in his eyes and cries out really portrays his suffering well. What a great fucking scene.

End spoiler.

Iroh is the baddest motherfucker on that show. I wish he would have kicked more ass and that they would have shown his breaking out of the cell.

I did the same thing, watched the whole series in about 2-3 days, and for the first time in a long time I was excited to see the next episode. Zuko was definitely my favorite character as well. He’s like that guy that gets shit on his whole life, but just wont back down or give up.

I really hope they do a good job with these movies. I have to say just the small clip of Iroh and Zuko in the preview just didn’t feel right for me, but hopefully everything will work out.

The guy playing Zuko is going to have to be a good actor (hell, they all will need to be to pull off the character flaws and the fact that they are growing up and changing). I haven’t seen any of the actors in too much else aside from Aasif Mandvi from the Daily Show (who I hope can pull of that role).

I remember him from Spiderman 2 and he stood out with even that bit part.

Isn’t he the dude from slumdog millionaire? Oh and they are making unbreakable 2.

Spoiler

I wish there had been a little more Iroh laying the smack down at the end of the series, after he got all jacked. There were a lot of sick moments in this series: Azula losing her fucking mind, Zuko redirecting lightening at his father, Admiral Zhoa getting killed by the giant incarnation of the water spirit, Aang and his gang taking on everyone at the earth kingdom capital… This series is way different from anything Shyamalan has ever done, so I guess there’s no telling how he’ll do with it. But, excepting the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, I haven’t liked any of his movies. Especially not The Happening. I’m sorry, but I thought that shit was stupid.

what’s up with his scare? It’s barely noticeable.

They wanted to make him ‘handsomer’.

Yeah that is what I thought they would do. Nickalodean had the balls to show a scar from
his eye to the burnt nub that was his ear. But once it gets to the big screen and they worry about soccer mom’s not letting the kids see it. They water it down. I reAlly really hope im wrong

Zuko’s facial deformity is pretty key to his character… I’m pissed as hell they all but removed it.

Also, I’m worried they’ll give all of his character development to Aang, who doesn’t really have any development or sacrifice throughout the series.

Wow, I’m a geek…a big geek…but a geek.

They can do a lot on post production though. I remember that scene from X-Men III when Jean blew the doors off the “X-Medical room”. In the previews, the door just blew off in two halves. In the real movie, the door disintegrated like she was turning it to sand and then they blew off.

They could enhance that scar more in post.
