Lol. Someone did, I just downloaded the thing. Problem with DBZ is that they hired the good artists for a 3-5min portion of an episode and let their children draw the rest.

Ya, i think they may lose a lot of the silliness but, I think they will sprinkle a little in here hand there. The only thing I was worried about was them keeping Ang’s character. I loved how in the series everyone wanted him to kill the fire lord and Ang just said “look I was raised by monks, I’, NOT killing anyone.” I’m also wondering if Opa is gonna be in it.
Appa BETTER be in it!
he is a key part of Ang’s character tbh.
id love to see this movie.

He’s in it. In the Super Bowl trailer…look at the upper left corner at around 0:10.
Yeah, he’s there. In the trailer, when there’s a mass fight scene and the camera moves to the right, he’s behind a building in the upper left corner.

Ya the ethnicity of the characters is not going to be an issue. The whole series is “inspired” by anime and is made by Americans. They never really say anything about races in the series other than the 4 (water tribe, earth nation, fire nation, (air monks?)) nations of people anyways.
I really won’t mind if they leave out all of the slapstick comedy from Soka and Aang. I think even if Shamalan makes it a little darker it will be pretty sweet. But, seeing how he watched the series too and his kids like it, there will be at least a little of that in there.
I think the most important part is to stay true to the idea of the air monks and their teachings to Aang. Maybe even a little bit about how he had to grow up a little too fast. That shit really hit home for me. Also, I think it would be pretty sweet if they introduced his meditation in the spirit world.(that crazy thing that stole faces was scary as hell)
I was hooked from season 1 episode 1 and I had no bad feelings about ANY direction they took from there on out. I’m not sure if they are gonna put Toph in this one but she was my favorite secondary character for sure. If she is not in this one I’m sure she will be introduced in the later ones if they decide to make a trilogy out of it.
Toph was badass…but as far as the evil guys go, the big dude with the eye in his forehead (the one that could shoot mental blasts through it) that they never named should definitely be in this.
The real badass was Zuko’s uncle Iroh. He’s one of the best fire benders and developed that lightning redirection technique. Plus he went from chubby tea drinking old man to this… What I want to know is how they’re going to portray him in the movie with such a drastic change in physique.
To bad Mako isnt still alive to play Iroh or at the very least do some voice over work, like and opening monologue or something.
I’ve never watched the cartoon, but very interested in the movie.
Is the movie suppose to take place pre, during, after the timeline in the tv show?
If during or after, I wouldn’t mind catching up.

Watch the show.
There is no “before” the show because Ang is just a kid…who got frozen in ice for 100 years. I am sure they will show backstory, but the whole plot is about that kid fulfilling his destiny and defeating The FireLord (symbolic for war and tyranny). The last episode of that show was epic…but going back through, quite a lot of those shows were.
They put a lot of heart into that concept and I think that is what people connected with…that and the spiritual aspect of the teachings and the characters.

Same here. My kid watches the TV show so I’ve heard of it but never seen it.
I will probably take him to see this. Looks like it might be pretty good.

One of a few series that has managed to spellbind me. It operates on so many emotional levels, imo.
I fear that they haven’t managed to capture the personalities of the characters.

Yeah…but we had years to connect with those characters. I was watching the series again starting last night and there was so much shit I even forgot about…like the first time he met the “face stealer”. That whole battle could be a movie in itself and they were just getting started.
Yes! The face stealer was crazy. You right. That part could be a movie on it own. I think I talked about it earlier in this thread. That thing is freaky, it stuck with me for a while. (Like when the baboon looks at him with no face) The whole idea of him being the tether between the spirit world and the real world is awesome. All the parts where he talks to the former Avatars is great. Even the giant panda part is cool.
I could talk about this series for hours. Pro X brought me a good idea. I think I’m gonna watch the whole thing again.
I was just watching that longer trailer again and they are starting the series there. The girl with the white hair (she falls backwards into the pool for a slit second scene…and she gave her life up to save that kingdom on the show) is “Princess Yue”…the embodiment of the moon god that falls in love with Sokka when they got the North Pole (yeah, I know Geek power of 10). Throwing the face stealer in would be cool if they do it well…and I guess that will be the start of the series.
I kind of doubt Shyamalan’s ability to deliver as far as the movie is concerned, but I’ll go see it anyways. The preview, at least, looks badass, and that’s already more than I expected. But anyone who likes animation and/or a good story with strong characters ought to check out the show, whether the movie sucks ass or not.
I know that www.blazinanime.com has Avatar there, but I don’t know what kind of quality the vids are. Someone else has probably already listed a better source, but I thought I should mention it anyways. Everything else I watched there seemed fine.
The original show pulled me in before I ever watched it, when I saw a commercial for it during its first season. I became addicted as soon as I saw the first episode.

I raise you Geek power of 11. The face steeler’s name is Koh.
Yet somehow I fucked up quoting your post.

They’re starting the series with the battle at the north pole? I don’t see how they could pull that off and have the rest of the movies make any sense. There are a ton of recurring characters that they meet prior to going to the north pole.

Well, we knew some cuts to the whole story were going to be made no matter what as I seriously doubt they have the backing to fund a movie on the scale of Fellowship of The Ring.

From the trailers is seems so tense. I wonder how much of the comedy (a big part of the show) will be left out. And will they attempt to have a trilogy or just finish it all in one shot.

Characters that must be in this movie:
Toph

And the Earth Bending KING Bumi

Going by the IMDB site, it doesn’t look like Bumi or Toph are in this movie. Which leads me to believe they’re doing more than one movie, because there is no way they could just omit characters so integral to the story.
