Nice work kent. I thought your shirt was going to drop right to your wrists. It was already bad enough.
I am soooooooo jealous of your pushups.

Nothing special. Yesterdays lunchtime walk was in the pouring rain. I can hardly wait for winter.
Cav - I sense sarcasm… ![]()
Noah, soldog - If you want to see me shirtless, just ask.
km - For now I’m just trying to do a simple handstand without the wall. My balance sucks… hard.
Brett - You saw right through my charade. I must hang my head in shame.
dogg - I believe a tunsfish sandwich would turn you on, so I’m hardly flattered.
Joe - My hat remains on due to the occipital protuberance on my skull. Translation: I have a big bulge on the back of my head.

Um, no. I really am jealous. I can’t do a handstand pushup to save my life.

Those handstand pushups were badass. I can’t do any.
I was just on a vacation eating crappy food, until I got a deeelicious tunafish wrap in Moab, Utah of all places; I was definitely turned on, just not in a buns kind of way (it was a wrap).
Well, I haven’t posted much because I’ve been on holidays in Edmonton. Lots of visiting, and hanging around. I still hit all my workouts, yay me. Diet was not exceptional… It takes a lot of effort to keep the carbs under control when you’re on other peoples’ turf. I don’t do all that well when I’m surrounded by desserts.
A few random thoughts:
I suck at self evaluation. I do poorly judging if I’m fresh enough to do a max lift, or if I’m not rested enough. I can’t tell if I’m fatter, fuller, leaner, or bigger… Gaining or losing…
I dislike just sitting around at the end of the day and channel surfing. Its my wife’s definition of awesome. I can’t help thinking about all the activities and hobbies I could be pursuing with that time.
I’m very much into popular music. I’m not one of those crustry 40 year olds who only listens to “classic rock” and thinks today’s music is all crap. But for Pete’s sake the songs on the Top 5 are disgusting. If you listen to the lyrics, these songs are about masturbating, drunken clubbing, drugged out three-ways, and flipping the bird to your parents. What the f##k?
I’ve been asked a few times now “how did you do it?”. The answer is I worked hard and consistently for several years. That’s really it. Anyone who does that, you WILL be successful.
it’s really easy to get impressed with yourself. The difference between someone who is impactful and confident, and an arrogant pric is humility. Practice humility!
The other critical factor for success is the commitment to restart immediately after failure. I fail lots. LOTS! However, when I fail and find myself gorging at the secretary’s candy dish, I don’t use that as an excuse to CONTINUE FAILING! I restart. I don’t wait for tomorrow. I restart immediately. Again, if you do that, you will be successul.
I just ordered a custom superhero suit for Halloween. I’m literally giddy.
JUST THE FACTS MA’AM
Saturday - Weak points
Chest and bis. I’m finally making some progress building up my feeble chest muscles. You’ll maybe notice I’ve got a chest exercise on nearly every workout. Plus on Saturday I do another full chest workout. I also throw in some work on bis because I’ve been told they’re a structural weak point.
Monday - DL & back
531 Deadlift - 3x240, 3x270, 5x305 (these weren’t bad!)
A1 DB rows - 10x80, 10x80, 8x80, 8x80
A2 good mornings - 10x95, 10x95, 10x95, 10x95
pullups - 17, 11, 10, 8
B1 rollouts - 10, 10, 10
B2 bb curls - 8x45, 8x45, 8x45
I’m liking how this is going.
I’ve been too busy to stay totally current on everybody’s logs for some time now. I really, really, truly, want to. It’s just LIFE consumes a FUCK of a lot of my day. Making a menaingful impact on here is becoming difficult. I will still try.
Big life decision: I’m going to compete in May and am hiring Carter Shoeffer to be my coach. Holy crap, this shit just got real! I find myself looking critically at every piece of dessert, seriously considering if I want to eat it knowing it has to be dieted away later. I’ve also decided not to make this common knowledge on my blog on that OTHER website. Over there, everyone just tends to line up and agree with me all the time. If I am going to make a serious run at this, I need to be beaten down, smacked upside the head with reality, and held accountable. I can depend on you guys to give me the real deal.
Let the games begin!
Good luck, we will be here to watch the progress.
What made you finally decide to compete?
Kent I am really looking forward to your journey, at the same time we will both be popping our cherry. I try not be one of those "back in my day: type of people but I really cannot find any music I like today. My wife always makes fun of me because my music tastes stop in 2003. I watched the MTV music awards and had no clue who anyone was. Dude you have to embrace your inner couch potato…dont shun him…love him!
loved the random thoughts. I am showing my age for sure with my musical tastes. Most of it is all from the nineties or classic rock. But I find gems here and there because i keep looking. I’m a mid-tempo rock guy for sure. I like my music to have a lil edge to it but I’m too old for metal. It just irritates and agitates me now… unless I am working out. I’ll never relax on the couch and slap on some old school metalica anymore. I think as I get older I am more looking for things to relax me then amp me up. ahh… the stress of adult life.
I’ve been listening to 90’s rock all morning; mostly Pearl Jam.
JUST THE FACTS MA’AM
Wednesday
Fast day & supposed cardio. Given that I was still catching up from a miserable 4 hours sleep Tuesday night I chose to sleep instead.
Thursday - MP & shoulders
531 Military Press - 5x105, 3x120, 5x135
A1 db shrugs - 12x90, 12x90, 12x90, 11x90
A2 side laterals - 8x30, 9x30, 9x30, 8x30
Decline pushups - 35, 24, 19 (this would eb a new record for me)
B1 1-arm db press - 12x40, 12x40, 12x45
B2 leg raises - 11, 10, 11
Rear delt extensions - 8x30, 8x30, 8x30
Friday - SQ & Legs
Squat - 5x205, 3x235, 3x260, 2x260
A1 Leg extensions - 8x200, 8x200, 8x200
A2 Hamstring curls - 10x145, 8x145, 8x145
B1 Reverse curls - 12x70, 12x70, 12x70
B2 Stiff legged deadlifts - 10x185, 10x185, 10x185
Front squats - 8x135, 8x135, 8x135
I’m struggling more with squats than the last time I did 531. After looking at some old video, I think it has more to do with me finally going to proper depth this time around. I may have to re-think the awesomeness of my past PR.
Today’s “weak points” chest and bi workout will have to wait until tomorrow. This morning at 8am the dentist drilled away half of one of my lower molars and face is so full of novacaine I can’t drink without getting wet. Soft foods are the order of the day.
NICE WORK Kent…
a show!!
AWESOME.
oh wait, sorry. smacks CK up the head WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???!
no, seriously, that’s cool!
Outstanding on setting a date to compete. Now there are now more days off and it will get more intense I think.

Sunday-Funday: Weak Points
I forgot my workout log so I just free-formed a bunch of stuff.
Bench Press - 5x185, 3x 205, 2x245, 3x225, 7x185
A1 Cambered bar curls - 10x70, 10x70, 10x70
A2 Incline db press - 10x80, 8x80, 7x80
Dips - 15x0, 5x45, 2x90 followed immediately by 5x45 followed immediately by 7x0
B1 alt db curls - 11x45, 10x45, 10x45
B2 cable crossovers - 10x50, 10x50, 10x50
Well Joe, I did dips with 90 lb. I’m kinda stoked. With practice, I think I could score a few more reps. But for now I’m pretty pleased that I was even able to do it at all. This is something of a minor mental victory.
I celebrated by having a melon/soy protein smoothie which, may I say, was vile. I am still suffering through that 10 lb order of vegan protein that somehow I talked myself into buying… 5 repulsive, gut-wrenching pounds to go. I’m so excited I could just vomit. If I wasn’t so cheap I’d junk the whole lot. At least it’s not as bad as that Raspberry Surge nonsense.
Today is one of those days where I feel like I’m making progress. I chose not to weigh myself and shatter the delusion, but for today the mirror was good to me and I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself.
And here’s something I haven’t done in a while…
What’s on my iPod:
This Party Never Stops - These Kids Wear Crowns
Break It Up - These Kids Wear Crowns
Jumpstart - These Kids Wear Crowns
Heatwave - The New Cities
Co-Pilot - Kristina Maria
King of Anything - Sara Bareilles
Closer Together - The Box
Black Cars - Gino Vanelli
Any Color - Cutting Crew
I Don’t Care - JRDN
I Guess I Like It - Kylie Minogue
Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO
Neverland - Grits
Something In Your Eyes - Shonlock
Yeah 3X - Chris Brown
Deeper Life - Natlaie Grant
Who’s That Chick - David Guetta and Rihanna
Future SOundz - The GSUS affair
Brighter at Night - Ash Koley
Electro Rock - Sworn
Just getting caught up. Solid work as always and I really appreciated the random thoughts.
I think that both deciding on a show and getting coached are great ideas. Best of luck and I look forward to watching your journey.
james
In my opinon +90 is right before you have to start being really careful with your elbows on dips. Also once you move past that plate combo every thing gets more and more uncomfortable.
I saw a video of Alpha doing dips with 6 plates and I don’t even know how he got them on the belt.
