LMAO @Matty’s pic. Give it time bro it will pass and you’ll be back on the horse.
My morning weight was 179 lb, so I lost a total of 17 lb. Altogether, totally decent. I’ll post full measurements and progress photos this weekend, but I think I’m around 10%. So I’m lean, but not exceptionally sexy. Altogether, this went well. I’m at a really good starting point for the next phase.
Matty, that was disturbing.
LOL I feel bad for the little guy in the middle.
Great job with the diet man, what will you have!
K, you look familiar…might I have seen you around?

Today’s weight: 181 lb.
Well that’s interesting. So I’m down around 15 lb in the past 5 weeks. There’s six days to go and then I plan to celebrate the end of a successful diet[/quote]
What determines the length of your diet? Do you decide how long you want to do it for beforehand, how much in pounds you want to lose or just stop when you get to the desired look?
I’m looking to lose some fat, could I carry on lifting as normal and just reduce calories without doing the whole macro-nutrient breakdown stuff and expect to lose mainly fat or is that far too simplistic?
I think I could stick to a diet for 6 weeks or so. In the past I don’t think I’ve reduced calories enough. If you keep lifting heavy, can you expect to hold on to all your muscle?
How many calories should I drop to start with?
Thanks
Check out who i got to meet for dinner. That would be me, Krista Schaus (Canadian national bodybuilding champ), and Dr John Berardi (T-Nation author, president and co-founder of Precision Nutrition, author of Scrawny to Brawny, nutritional director for several NFL and Olympic teams).
I’m still geeking out about it.

I’m in Ontario for work at a conference/purchasing committee. I appear to have a reputation for being really entertaining, gruff, I swear excessively, and can be counted on to freely speak my mind without sugar-coating.
Excellent!
I have a lot of things on my mind… and for the moment I have time to post them. Following is an excerpt from Iron Radio Episode #103, from Jim Wendler.
“I see a lot of dudes just being emasculated? think about it this way. Our essence of us, testosterone, is a f##ing felony! Think about that. It?s a felony to be excess ?man? in this world ?”
“Contemporary society emasculates men and wants us to be soft little dough boys. The domain of the real man has been ostracized, and you have to reclaim it in some way. If you really are a man, you have to find something? otherwise you just lose it and you become… pathetic”
“It goes beyond just being a dude? The passion in life has been stripped away… It can be anything. I don?t care if it?s f##king scrapbooking. Just be awesome and passionate about what you love?”
“It just seems that everyone?s very content at not doing much? Life for a lot of people just lacks passion? In America? if you try once and fail your labeled a failure your whole life. People rip on one hit wonders. Dude, how many hits have you had? I?ll take one hit. That means at one point in my life I did something… I think people are scared to death of failing. Scared to death of looking different?”
“[There are loud voices in the lifting community who consistently trash talk]. The bottom line is these people hate themselves. And? to make themselves feel better they have to put people down. Now that?s nothing new, but it?s such a loud voice? You have to do something to have a f##king opinion!”
Brett - I picked the length of my diet based on how long I can do extreme carb withdrawl without compromising my mood. After six weeks I start to get angry with my kids, my wife, my coworkers. I just wanted to shed the fat I gained on my last bulk, get back to respectable lean-ness, and build to a really powerful starting point for my next phase of training.
For you, I think you would do best by partitionaing your carbs and moderately cutting your calories. Something like 3000-3500 cal/d. Cur your carbs from all meals except for your workout drinks, and the one solid meal following your workout. Maybe also some whole grains at breakfast if you think you need it. That should be plenty to get you moving in the right direction assuming you still keep lifting and exercising like you do.
You will not lose muscle. That is physiologically impossible as long as you are getting enough nutrients. You will lose some water bloat, and you may feel lethargic. Those two events usually cause most PLers to go into pa panic that they are “losing muscle”. What’s really going on is they are losing fat and water, but the shrinkage causes them to freak out, and the low energy convinces them (wrongly) that they’re getting weaker. I held onto all my muscle and I dieted a lot harder than that.
Indy - BUD-DAY!
Progress pics soon…
Those quotes from Wendler are great, thanks for posting them, I’d forgotten about Iron Radio.
Have you tried PowerDrive during low carb diets? It helps with mental cloudyness (is that a word) anyway, for me it keeps the crazy out while at super low carbs. I’ve also found that Rhodiola helps not being so edgy. Enjoy your conference.

Pretty cool, Kent. I’m 'fused, though. Did you get a toupee? Is the 4th guy anyone special?
Those words Lord Wendler bestowed upon us mean alot to me. For the past few years, via my own mistakes and shortcomings and other times through no fault of my own I have had to have my tail between my legs. Currently my tail is still firmly lodged up my ass crack, that is why I thank god for weight lifting, it gives me a chance for my tail to wag.
Passion is necessary.
