The Grind...

Great progress. Massive difference, it’s inspiring me to do something about my waistline. I’ve been in denial.

Do I remember you saying this was going to be your last bulk and cut?

Good work, Kent! Hmmm . . . you know, I’ve got some love handles that just don’t want to go away . . .

OK gals, wipe the drool off your keyboards.

Thanks all of you for the compliments. I do appreciate it.

Cav - When your time comes, I am here to help “coach” (read: mercilessly bitch-slap) you along the way.

Brett - Same offer to you, by the way. Yeah, the bulk/cut doesn’t seem to actually be doing anything for me. I need to bulk for a lot longer, and let my body “recompose” at my goal weight. The problem is, that process is measured in years and I simply AM NOT happy when I’m pudgy. Apparently, carb-cycling is an acceptable route to leaner gains. I need to give it a try because I really, really enjoy being lean. To be honest, I’m still not to the lean-ness I like in the pictures above. But I’m done the hard dieting. I can fine-tune over the next few months.

Fischer - I’m going to go for another round of 531. I really believe I need to be stronger in order to get bigger. And besides my strength is pretty sub-par for a guy my weight.

dday - dude.

Todd - My bodybuilder pals all tell me my posing sucks. And here I thought I knew what I was doing. DAMMIT! I’ll graciously take any advice.

nyc - Waddaya mean no homo? I DEMAND FULL-ON HOMO!

Matty - DUDE!

Looking awesome!

And you’re a trip. “I demand full-on homo”
Well, you got full-on hetero right here <3

Good work, what now.

See this is why I don’t do bodybuilding. Because then I’d have to take pics in my underwear.

Oh yes, please, please, more, more, oh so good, so good . . .

Seriously. I see what you mean about bulk - cut - bulk - cut can just spin your wheels. I could trim off 20 lbs, but could I spend that time getting stronger instead? Don’t want to spend 5 yrs going up & down, just to end up at the same place. Really want to get stronger, this might not be the time to worry about ab cuts.

I envy the bodybuilders who stay trim and can squat 600 lbs for reps. I’m nowhere near that level right now.

Let’s start with the Side Chest (since that is one you have there).

I have been taught to work from feet up for everything (I had the same posing coach as Krista).

Assume you’re showing your right arm, plant your left leg, place your right toes into the arch of your left foot and twist/flex/put weight on your right leg until your calf/quad/hamstring are flexed.

Wow… lots to think about right?

Now for upper body:

You want to press down with your left arm onto your supinated right arm. This forces you to slightly twist your upper body and helps you flex your chest (makes it look thicker). Once you’ve done this, you’ll try and do a bicep curl (with your right arm) against your left arm resistance and twist a little more.

Once you’ve got all that, don’t forget to smile.

Next week we’ll cover Back Double Biceps.

Came across this .Funny stuff.

YES That was awesome Kent!

Tsk, tsk. Arnold would never let himself get pepper-sprayed.

You know, Kent I see a little bit of Corbin Bernson in you.

Cav - Hey, I’m balding, not completely hairless. In case you’re confused, in that photo I’m the blonde guy with the glasses. The fourth dude is a friend of Krista’s. And the only bodybuilders who stay ripped up all year long and strong as rutting bulls are on the sauce.

Matty - Tail wagging? Yeah, lifting is a chance to let out the “inner-beast”. Even in a big gym full of guys way bigger/stronger than I am, I’m good enough at lifting that I feel like a beast. It’s a good feeling, even if it’s just inside mye head.

Nikki - I try to entertain. Every dude here at T-Nation is so wound up about looking/sounding the least bit gay. You’d think here in the over-35 we’d be past that.

Joe - Now, now, don’t be jealous. Just beause I have prettier undies…

Todd - You know I think I realized why my posing sucks so hard in these progress photos. I only have 10 seconds to get in front of the camera and hit the pose.

Dogg - How the hell did you dig that up?!?!??! I feel I gotta explain. The last place I worked was called Agrium, and they had a video contest where we had to be like newscasters. I decided to go “over-the-top”. I won the contest, of course, but I also had a ball.

Following is an excerpt from another really excellent podcast, the Fitcast Pulse Episode #2. The topic was sizeism, and obesity in children. As a parent I agree strongly with this.

“We?re not pointing fingers and saying ?You?re fat?? I think what we?re trying to say is ?We can?t have our children grow up and die?..”

“If we?re going to help, some people are not going to like the help that?s given… Maralyn Wan whose book (Fat! So?) … her main selling point is showing people that you can be healthy at 275 pounds. Which is just bull ##it… You can look at any of the research that has been done on obesity and how it?s been linked to disease… [and] that the leaner you are the more disease free you tend to be…”

“I looked at the National Fat Acceptance site, and I looked at it because I do believe in education not damnation. And I believe that you should try and be accepting of where people are coming from and compassionate? I don?t think obesity is healthy. Not at all. I think how we treat things and how we go about it we should have compassion? And try and educate and treat it without being so superior.”

“There is a difference between sizeism and weight bias, which are very true things, and can cause problems and psychological repercussions and we can?t deny that? We can?t treat it with such kid gloves and walk on so much glass we?re not going to say what the true health situation is both for adults and for kids.”

"…For kids, it?s something I get heated about and I take very personally. Because in my opinion you?re a parent; you should step in and take the reins. And you should realize the damage you could be doing to your children long term? It is, in my opinion, your obligation as a parent to step in… This is something that?s hurting people?

“And obesity hurts. It kills. It ruins lives. So I can?t really get by it as something that I can support? and carry a sign for it and say ?let?s be morbidly obese?. I can?t stand behind that. When you?re dealing with the costs, and you can talk about monetary costs and emotional costs, this is just not a good thing!”

“…I completely agree, parents need to be educated, children need to be educated. But here?s the other side of it? Even the education part I have a tough time swallowing. Do you really need to be educated to figure out that you shouldn?t be feeding your kids sugar and crap all day long?”

“That?s what bothers me the most. Somehow my mother that knows jack-nothing about health and nutrition figured out not to give me crap all day long? Somehow my mother didn?t need a doctorate in physiology or a medical degree to figure out what I needed to eat? I used to have to eat my vegetables as a kid. I don?t know how that?s not really getting across either any more.”

“…When did we become so stupid that we believed everything that we saw in the grocery store? I just don?t get it. It feels to me like parents are? becoming so engrossed in our technological wonders and our amazing society of ?everything you want right outside your front door? that we lost our ability to make common sense decisions on what?s good and what?s not.”

“Parents: do you not want to stand up to children any more? Do you not want to be the parent anymore? So when the kids whines you buy them a video game? It?s bad enough we?re having budget issues where gym classes are being cut, sports are being cut? But now we?ve got parents? where we just don?t have a family dinner any more, and you can?t control what?s on your kid?s plate? I just find it really hard to understand that.”

“[I see lots of parents] and I don?t see them having these problems. What they?re doing is they?re being actively involved in their children?s lives. I have a lot of problems with understanding the arguments? why we?re having obesity epidemics, and children are getting fatter, and parents can?t seem to stop this. I don?t buy it.”

“Do not become a parent if you are not strong enough to stand up to a little whining? or a LOT of whining!”

Ahmen !!

I thought your video was entertaining.

From a gym I worked out at this weekend. Hey, we’re all thinking it…

Kent, I stand corrected, you’re not hairless, I was just confused by the pic you put in your first post. But if you ever think losing your hair will stop you being a sex symbol, just remember:

Yul Brynner
Telly Savalas
Patrick Stewart

And your video is absolutely delightful.

You trained in a place that puts curlers in their place? Wow! Will you be going there from now on?

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM

overhead forward lunge - 6x95, 6x95
Front Squat - 5x205, 3x225, 0x245, 10x135, 4x205, 2x225, 1x230
BB split squat - 6x145, 6x145, 6x145
A1 BB Step up - 7x95, 8x95, 8x95
A2 Reverse hyperextensions - 12, 13, 11

This was a disappointing workout. Squats felt really, really heavy. I squatted 245 for 2 a month ago. Today I was stapled to the floor. So I mad eup for it by amping up the volume. I really wanted to deliver more, but I just didnt have it today.

Sigh.

Thats still a fine weight for front squats dude.
