The Flame-Free Confession Thread

I can understand that.

I’m not really going to spew out a bunch of detail on my own opinion. But when it comes to food, I think as long as you’re doing the absolute best that you can do for your kids, there’s no reason for animosity to arise when it comes to this subject (nothing pertaining to you as an individual, just in general).

There’s a few young girls I occasionally will say hey to, that I went to high school with. They don’t make much money either with their boyfriends or spouses around and contributing, or they’re single mothers. They dlbuy what they can afford. Capri Suns, fruit punches, cereal, some type of meat, cheese, chips or snacks for lunch, Ensures, frozen veggies, lunch meat, crackers, frozen dinners, noodles, etc.

Half of the stuff listed is filled to the brim with sugar and salt, but they’re doing their best. That much I have no room to have any sort of opinion on.

Those parent who are blatantly lazy and correlate positive actions and emotions with feeding their kids junk food, willingly, and have the means to do better for not only their kids, but for themselves as well…

Yea…I 100% agree with you.

How are they not comparable?

From the CDC’s website:

The health effects of obesity:

People who have obesity, compared to those with a normal or healthy weight, are at increased risk for many serious diseases and health conditions, including the following:1,2,3

All-causes of death (mortality)
High blood pressure (Hypertension)
High LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, or high levels of triglycerides (Dyslipidemia)
Type 2 diabetes
Coronary heart disease
Stroke
Gallbladder disease
Osteoarthritis (a breakdown of cartilage and bone within a joint)
Sleep apnea and breathing problems
Some cancers (endometrial, breast, colon, kidney, gallbladder, and liver)
Low quality of life
Mental illness such as clinical depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders4,5

Health effects of smoking:

Smoking leads to disease and disability and harms nearly every organ of the body. More than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness. Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis.
Secondhand smoke exposure contributes to approximately 41,000 deaths among nonsmoking adults and 400 deaths in infants each year. Secondhand smoke causes stroke, lung cancer, and coronary heart disease in adults. Children who are exposed to secondhand smoke are at increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome, acute respiratory infections, middle ear disease, more severe asthma, respiratory symptoms, and slowed lung growth.

I see a lot of common health problems and they’re self inflicted in both cases.

I started smoking at 12. Never send your kid to buy a pack of Dunhills from the store for you lol.

This is what I see more often than poverty or ignorance. Instead of dealing with their children’s outbursts they give them treats to be quiet and leave them alone.

There are plenty of programs that help families buy decent food. Food stamps will get some of the classic whole foods. And you listed some decent options when money is an issue. You don’t have to rely on microwaved foods for every meal.

So the wife and I accidentally ended up eating at Cheddar’s the other night. (Long, rather uninteresting story.) Haven’t been in ages, and saw that their menu now included the calories for each dish. Was quite shocked at some of the calorie counts, which pushed me off my go-to bacon cheeseburger (~1300 cals!) to grilled shrimp and fish (~600). When the waitress took our order, I remarked on the inclusion of the calorie-counts, and asked her if, in her experience, they affected what customers order. “Only the old people,” she replied.

Only the old people. Got it.

I respect old people a hell of a lot more than young people these days.

I laughed at this, not for the old part but the calorie count. I read the menu to see which dish has the most calories for price :astonished:

Besides the fact that one is illegal and one is not, there is no moderate usage of cigarettes, some would argue that of alcohol. Fast food can form part of a diet, some folks even encourage it.

Both cigarettes and alcohol are drugs and food, in most forms given to children, is not and certainly not at the level of the other two. You can argue addictive qualities at a low level for food in a particular demographic but cigarettes are broadly addictive.

Finally, alcohol has social impacts and cigarettes to a lower degree.

Basically, you need a particularly bizarre slant to look at these the same.

yeah I’d be like that too. I’m not paying ten bucks for 600 cals

I think there may be quite a few here that would be looking for the most cals per $ for sure.

I have an anniversary coming up. The better half has gone to get some grooming for the occassion.

I decided that I would also put in some grooming effort and attend to my toe nails. I actually shocked myself at the length my nails had reached.

Honestly at this stage i could give two fucks less about getting into a debate with anyone regarding my point of view or anything remotely regarding my own training philosophy. Especially not with anyone just starting out …

I hear what you are saying, but you are wrong and I am right. No amount of evidence will convince me otherwise cause I read one article in mens health stating the opposite and they wouldnt lie to me.

Nah. You just need a road trip with a mullet and a Harley. My plan in a couple of years.

LOL I had a mullet when I was 18 and it went past my shoulder blades. ( for the record it was still in fashion at the time)

Haha that’s fucking long. I only had near shoulder length hair with gold streaks.

Get the mullet back. I’ll go for the Lorenzo Lamas look this time.
