You get a pass if you can do 20x500lbs
I can’t argue with this lol.
Oh crap… no flames!!!
Nothing to do with strength training. But one can make their hands incredibly tough after years of physical labour. Have you never shaken hands with an old farmer or brick layer or roofer?
I have met guys whose hands are so conditioned that splinters basically bounce back off their hands. It comes in handy.
Dunno all you guys want to be really strong. I like to be really tough. Haha
Confession: my ducks don’t mind be fed with callused hands. In fact sometimes I may even prefer it! Lmao
Pavers really do suck the moisture out of your hands if our not used to it. A few months ago we finished a huge paving job. I was the chief cutting bloke (cause I hate laying them) and my hands were wet and dry all day. Did it for about 3 weeks straight but my hands never had a problem. I don’t moisturise or do anything special with them and they seem to handle it ok.
One of the workers who wears gloves all the time forgot his gloves for a day and it fucked him. The next day his skin was falling off and he could barely eat his lunch. So case in point?
Definitely toughness adaptions I’ve found is very similar to strength adaptions. The longer you keep it up, the longer the adaptation will stick around for.
How many ducks are you feeding?
Dude, where I grew up, almost everyone did some form of physical labour. I did physical labour. My dad would do dumb shit like practicing breaking bricks with his palm every weekend and then soak them in some kind of foul smelling herbal mixture because he learnt kungfu when he was younger. Now he’s complaining about constant bone pain and wishing he never did that dumb shit then.
See, I get your point here but I still don’t get what it has to do with not wearing gloves when weight training. How tough can your hands possibly get this way lol? I’m not sure why you don’t understand my point if you have done physical labour.
Ah yeah I may have just glazed over your point! Haha Well people get calluses if they lift without gloves, so this just adds to whatever toughened skin you get from physical labour. Yes lifting a barbell won’t give you brick layer conditioned hands but it may help a bit.
I understand that not everyone wants tough hands though.
Fuck! ![]()
Glad everything turned out okay
I started getting tingling in my fingertips…tks to the InterwebZ I realized it was from high bar squatting’s effects over time…ordered my own hardcore (sarcasm) pussy pad from Harbinger so I wouldn’t have to use the shitty ones at the gym. Still have the mini-Quasimodo bump on the back of my neck, but no more tingling.
Random point -didn’t Tom Platz have a towel wrapped around the bar in one of his squat videos or pictures? And Arnold a pad in one of his squat pics?
edit: Hah! Just saw the Platz pic.
I scored $10 for the pussy pad.
If almost getting into a fight twice counts, would be another $10
I think it’s because I’m old.
I feel that “feeding ducks” means something very different to feeding ducks lol
$10. Lifted in jeans.
Valentine’s Day conversation at my house:
“I got you a surprise this year.”
“Your dick?”
“Uh… yeah. That’s it exactly.”
My son (5 next week) has become obsessed with strongman and in particular Eddy Hall. The typical day includes him asking questions like “can eddy hall pick up a tree”, “can eddy hall pick up a house”, “can eddy hall lift up a car” and also “does eddy hall eat chicken”, “does eddy hall drink water” etc etc etc.
You can either tell the truth. Or… tell him: “Eddie hall eats little boys that ask too many questions.” Lol
I do this too.
I worked with lumber daily, bouldered/climbed 3 times a week, and have never worn gloves in the gym. My hands were constantly bleeding and coated in super glue. Also had horrible elbow pain that would wake me up at night. Started wearing gloves at work, both of those discomforts went away. Felt like a sissy until i saw the market improvement in my quality of life.
