The Flame-Free Confession Thread

Just sat here and read baubers comment. Sent tingles down my spine. I cant even begin to comprehend dealing with that level of pain, but thats what sets bauber apart from the rest of us mere human beings.

Best shoulder workout ever is gotten by turning a rusty torque arm on a truck or a trailer and not in the gym.

Anybody who says they can’t gain weight does not eat enough food.

My little brother can kick my ass.

A fat guy bragging about how big his arms are is just as annoying a fat girl bragging about how big her tits are.

You are not a bodybuilder unless you have actually competed in a bodybuilding contest.

Everyone should get to at least 10% bodyfat lean once in their life just to see what it’s like.

I read many times on this site along the lines of get strong enough to bench 4 plates and an impressive physique will follow. I believed until I entered a couple powerlifting meets and saw fat guys that look like they may or may not lift benching 405 paused.

Powerlifting meets are ridiculously over priced. You have to pay a yearly due to be in one of like 30 federations. Then on top of that, it’s like a $100 a meet. To put that in perspective, I pay $100 to compete in an indoor basketball league and that gets me 8 games + playoffs on top of that if the team doesn’t suck. Games are refereed and you get at least 1 t-shirt. For $100 in a meet, you get 9 lifts which last a combined 5 minutes.

I wear short shorts to show off my quads (not even that big), to show that I work out legs because I honestly think I have the worst calf genetics of all time.

I smiled reading these. Really good stuff.

The only thing I can possibly understand others disagreeing with is the competing bodybuilder thing. Personally though, even if someone never gets onstage I do acknowledge that bodybuilding is not just about becoming a large human being (that’s pretty easy to do, just ask most of the folks you see at WalMart -lol) there’s more to it than that.

-Fuq that … genetics >> than hard work. Yup I said it. Know too many comrades with half assed effort that are one 12-week cut cycle away from Greek god status. Running joke in my hood is they are “Mandingo men” lulz. I’m still in the “you lift?” demographic.

-I believe while overtraining in a strict sense probably never happens in a non competitive lifter, there is such a thing as overdoing it. There comes a point where your body cannot recovery from the stress you put on it. My takeaway has recently been to go from 5 to 4 days/week training and a little less volume (8-12 sets / body part max). Feel much better and less beat the fuq up. IFFFFFF i had more muscle then it would make sense to pound it harder… hehehehe

-IF and IIFYM kinda changed my life. Much less obsessive about food although I go for more quality stuff and I count calories. People are amazed at the size of the meals I eat and not get fat, little do they know I skipped breakfast and left room for more kcals

You might also cock your forearm down. Think of doing a curl like Spider Man shoots his web, this “deactivates” the forearm and you may feel it more in the Bicep.
That is a real good one. I have not done that in a long time but I remember they are very effective.

Carbs are both underrated and overrated.

Chew on that one =/

After the funeral service for my fiance, I shoveled every last bit of dirt into the hole by myself. People probably thought I was nuts. It was over 100 degrees and it took me 7 hours. I ended up going to the hospital for severe dehydration and my hands were blistered beyond belief. Weirdly enough it helped and was what I needed at the time. The old guy on the backhoe just tipped his hat to me and left.
Conservative Americans are nearly the only subset of humans to disbelieve global warming.

I have a very hard to get a good grasp of how developed I am. My opinion changes all the time - mirror alone, different photos, vids, mirror standing next to other people, verbal feedback from experienced people and from layman etc… It is not really affecting me emotionally in a significant way, but it is kinda irritating, odd, and funny.

I’ve found that the people most vocal about how good they look or how much they know are usually in the minority with their opinion of themselves.

The most impressive physiques I’ve seen in my 20+ years of training, competing and coaching have more often than not been on the most humble, and usually unawares of people.
(Obviously I’m not including the IFBB in my generalizations -lol)

I think people who turn to steroids have issues not limited to needing to prove themselves to the outside world thanks to huge insecurities.

Anyway, I may chime in with a non-dick sounding one of these at some point.

My first impression of people who can’t spell and use improper grammar is that they are stupid.

If your biceps are bigger than your legs you had better be in a wheelchair.

Don’t wear a powerlifting t-shirt if you are doing squats in the Smith machine. I don’t care if you have 4 wheels on there. Also, don’t “box squat” in the Smith machine. It’s stupid.

x3. Even at my largest (6’ 245 not so lean, pics are in my hub) everyone else in the gym looked bigger than me. No matter how much smaller and weaker they actually were. Now that I’m shooting for 190-200lbs at 10% bodyfat, I’m sure it’ll be even worse.

I was a 6’ tall skinny kid with 12" arms most of my life so I think that its just second nature to feel smaller than everyone.

Yeah.

I began this adventure of forcibly unskinnyfying myself at a whopping 5’8’', 140 lbs. The better part of 30lbs later I am still pretty much skinny, at least/especially by the standards of this place.

its not hard to make a good routine

who needs a training log? how can you forget what weights your lifting

stop worrying about what specific exercises your doing, just go to the gym and train

Damn you were only 15lbs less than me but I’m almost 6’1
