This is a very specific lesson to impart, so I focus on it less.
The story IS a great story. I called it an “Archetypal Masterpiece.” It was then overlaid with things that were put there specifically to push someone’s agenda.
Flame-free: I don’t know who Anna Kendrick is!!
And my life will go on magnificently despite this!
Nah, the thread rules can’t save you from this…
Happens with kids. Worry a lot about what they’re watching and what it means.
I want nothing more than to watch some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with my kid, but I know that, once I let the genie out of that bottle, there is no putting it back in and watching anything even REMOTELY educational, haha.
I disagree with that, my kids (4, 6 and 7) love ninja turtles but when given a choice of shows on Netflix they often choose an educational show like ‘the magic schoool bus’ or ‘Sid the science kid’.
You have great kids.
I guess I’ve never had that problem lol. I don’t try to use the tv as an educational tool anymore. He goes to kindsrgarten all day, he comes home and we spend time going over all his numbers and letters, etc. etc. and then read a couple books. At that point, he’s got plenty of learning in for the day and it’s time to hit him with that TMNT ![]()
Plus I feel like shows like that (TMNT, DBZ, pretty much any good vs. evil show) are “educational” in a different way. They teach you about character. Personal sacrifice, standing up for your friends, doing what has to be done even when it’s hard.
I like using the fun time for play rather than TV. Already got a great set of Viking weapons and helmets. We stage many raiding parties, haha.
You give me hope… my life is Mickey Mouse Club House. Shoot me in the face, please…
I’m assuming you’re using the child friendly Vikings. Ya know, the ones that don’t rape, murder and burn down villages lmao
It was pretty funny. I bought all the gear first and my kid said “What is that?”
“It’s Viking gear”
“What are Vikings”
“Well…they sailed on big wooden ships and explored all over the world!”
“Why?”
“Err…” pulling at collar “Hey, let’s get some ice cream!”
We get a lot of treasure though. And my kid lets me wield the hand axe, which is pretty cool of them.
Brave introduces you to Scottish people, so you are more Sympathetic(?) to the people of Scotland.
I was replying to the dude who hates Scottish dudes.
But, I guess it was continuing the idea that Disney has been pushing an inclusive agenda hard, for years.
Meeska! Mooska!..
My kid really likes Shimmer and Shine.
How did that happen?
This made me laugh a lot harder than it should have. It’s ok, I haven’t heard the heart to tell my kid that his gladiator gear is the gear of a murderer/rapist/slave that fought to the death for other people’s amusement lol. As far as he’s concerned they were just bad asses doing bad ass stuff
Hey, in fairness, some were professional athletes. No different than NFL players really.
…err, maybe those guys are poor role models too.
and now “roll call” is stuck in my head…
TBH I couldn’t really tell lol. The cartoon changed the original story quite a bit. The movie followed the cartoon rather faithfully. All they did was replace a couple of insignificant roles with black performers and briefly implied that one character was gay.
What I DO get irritated at is the critics giving movies biased reviews and making a big deal out of certain elements when they fit, or go against their agendas.
my name is Yogi and you know my name is Yogi!
10-4, I was genuinely lost ![]()
If you watch the cartoon, you can kind of pick up on this now as well. Mancrush was bordering on simply “crush crush”.
