I consider a stoner anybody who smokes every day. Plenty of people gonabout their day-to-day activities while burning some grass
What would you consider someone who has a glass of wine or a drink each night?
As someone who doesn’t smoke or drink, I find the topic fascinating.
@T3hPwnisher Fair point, I’m not really being very clear lol. Smoking one joint before bed isn’t being a stoner, but if you wake and bake in the morning, smoke a doobie or two with lunch, get home in the evening a hit your bong, then smoke one more joint before bed to help you sleep, you’re a stoner. It’s the equivalent to being an alcoholic except it doesn’t fuck up your life like alcohol does. Pot isn’t addictive, and it doesn’t inhibit your ability to function and do shit nearly as much as alcohol.
To be clear, I’m not advocating for being a stoner. My original point was just that it’s x100 easier to be a functioning stoner than a functioning alcoholic
And you know plenty of productive adults like this?
Yeah man, before I moved a lot of my friends were stoners. They could be baked all day but were still able to go to college classes, work full-time jobs, hit the gym, etc. etc. again, it’s not an ideal situation, but it’s doable
Edit: I did it myself for years, I only quit because my job drug tests and I want to be a good example for my kid
Ah, kinda like high functioning alcholics. I have known a few that could keep it all together like that. Pretty crazy. I can’t even imagine, haha.
This. If it ever became legal in Georgia, I’d start back. I don’t drink at all really, but I used to enjoy either a blunt or a bowl with a cup of coffee on the front porch of my apartment before work. Granted it wasn’t an everyday thing (mostly on the weekends) but I never had any problem balancing things with it. I also wasn’t getting toasted by smoking a shit ton, just a little bit. It helped me eat more and drink more water through out the day as well. My roommates and a few of my co-workers were burnouts and would veg out every time they smoked, but I think a lot of it is mental. Like when I would drink, I never had any intention of getting drunk and without the mindset of getting hammered I never really did. My roommates, however, would drink less than me and start acting obnoxious immediately. It’s all mental really (up until a certain point).
Daddy, he once told me, “Son, you be hardworking man.”
And Mommy, she once told me, “Son, you do the best you can.”
But then, one day, I met a man who came to me and said:
“Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of head.”
Out of curiosity, what kind of work did they do?
I’ve seen way too many industrial accidents to co-sign functional stoner in that environment.
Maybe behind a desk or something, but nothing heavy. I knw some people that have done that with very good success.
I work in law. Functioning alcoholics abound. The cliche is a reality, in the UK at least. Plenty of white powder flying about too.
@lord_humongous just wanted to clear-up that I am pro weed, especially for medical use but I have enough pot head mates to see how much of a de-motivator it is.
I also do believe it’s largely a mental thing and it doesn’t turn you into a giant slobbering mess, but it sure doesn’t give you the kick up the arse to go make something of yourself most of the time.
I bought a bag of grass for the first time in a really long time quite recently, and got into the habit of smoking a joint every day after work to relax.
It was fucking good! Didn’t buy another bag when it ran out, though. Don’t want to get to the stage where I need it to relax, and can’t chill without it.
My most successful (London stockbroker type) mate is a huge pothead and smokes that shit every day. Doesn’t stop him pulling in a 6 figure salary on a two and a half day working week. Asshole.
Haha On the otherside of the coin, my mate started smoking daily, then stopped going to school basically to smoke, then dropped out of school. He now lives at home as an almost 40 year old, hasn’t held down a job in his adult life… sad as he is quite a bright person.
oh I’ve known a few of them too. I often wonder with people like that if they were always looking for an excuse just to do nothing, and when they found smoking grass they were like “aha! This is it!” I wonder with these people whether or not if they hadn’t found grass they’d have just found something else, but that’s a whole big can of worms I don’t think this thread needs to open!
Some people are more prone to addiction/dependence to be sure. I similarly have an uber successful friend, hedge fund man, who spends half his life intoxicated on one thing or another. He’s able to switch on when it matters.
He’ll almost certainly burn out before he hits 40 but yeah.
Whenever someone uses this emoji “
” I feel like I want to kill him/her
It’s the same in the U.S.
I’ve got to jump in on this topic. Ex-“functional”-pothead here. Quit a month ago. I’ll share as soon as I get a chance to write the novel. I have to put the kids to bed at the moment. I’m in the pacNW, by the way, where things are legal. It affects everyone differently!
For anyone who says it isn’t addictive: you didn’t smoke as much as I did!!!
