The Flame-Free Confession Thread

45 here. If I don’t get my conditioning in regularly then I can’t get through my weight training without being completely wasted. Hell, I even go for intentional walks these days to make sure things simply work properly. Skipping conditioning is akin to a crap diet; you get away with it for a while but it will catch up with you. That everything just hurts more

I haven’t done any conditioning since I don’t even know when. Probably why my resting heart rate is 85.

My next cut (3 weeks away now, eurgh), I’m going to keep calories a little higher but do conditioning every other day. Hurrah.

I just had my entire front and side yard tilled up (live in a neighborhood). People are freaking out, including my wife.

I’m like, wait 4-5 weeks and it’ll be the best yard in the neighborhood.

Got this new hybrid seed. Better be good or ima be pissed.

Yep, I’m that guy.

My conditioning today:

It’s fun when something comes up to test your programming!

Was I ready for the unexpected challenge? Or are there holes in the routine?

Didn’t do any conditioning for years, stopped lifting weights and then spend the last 5 years running about a 1000 miles a year, conditioning was amazing but strength was a joke. Tore a calf muscle a bit over a year ago, started back on the weights and haven’t run much since. I loved the feeling that came with good conditioning but I love the strength and the pump more

I don’t know if it’s just me but whenever I lifters talk about being hardcore and shit, I just laugh. The average distance runner is (in my opinion) 10x more ‘hardcore’ than most lifters.

It takes a special kind of stupid to derive enjoyment out of moving your legs the exact same way for literally hours on end.

I don’t think being stupid is all that bad, just so anyone is wondering.

I’m not so sure I call your 1000 mile a year (average) guy hard core. So that guy is probably running 9 to 10 minute miles. Realistically 8, but call it 10. That’s 100 hours of training per year. Or 2 hours a week. I’d wager that half the guys here log double that at the gym.

Now the guys that’s pulling sub 7/8 minute miles in your spartan and tough mudder racesor 6s for 10 mile trips… that’s a different story.

Ha ha I am hearing you. My worst race was from the bottom to the top of a mountain. 22km with 1400m of elevation. It was basically running up a hill for over 2 hours. I don’t know if I would call that hardcore or just plan fken dumb, but it was fun at the time

Oh, I was actually saying that with (what I thought was) the “average runner” mind. Most of the people I know whom run, do it at a… I don’t know actually, I know quite a few of them competed recently and all of them got sub 18 minutes in a 5km.

Sub 18 for 5km is moving. The first 2 kms are ok but the next three are just fken torture. I much prefer a more relaxed pace these days.

I loathe GPP in all its forms. Frankly, if I’m going to do shit like that, I expect to get payed for it.

Hockey.

It’s like conditioning, only more fun.

@Irishman92
Plenty of people smoke pot and are completely functional, responsible adults

Would those people be considered stoners? I would imagine what you are describing is more like someone enjoying a drink on occassion vs an alcoholic.
