The Fat People... Are They for Real?

uh, your a doctor and it’s never once occurred to you that some people may just be fat/obese from taking medicinal steroids??? my friend was on prednisone on and off for a long period of time due to asthma when he was young and he gained a crapload of weight because of it, so its not always about how much cake or donuts they’re stuffing their faces with.

Do you realize that patients are asked several times during treatment about their medical histories where their medicines taken are listed? The majority of the obese people I have treated in the past 6 or 7 years have NOT been on corticosteroids for asthma or for any other reason. The majority of them do seem to have diabetes and are taking insulin along with high blood pressure medication.

Not only that, but how many times have I written in this thread about medical conditions? Do you think the majority of MORBIDLY OBESE people are all on corticosteroids?

I mean, you must think that in order to write what you did as if medical offices around the country are being filled with obese people all because of asthma and allergy treatment.

In any case they dont make one fat. I have had to take courses of corticosteroids for other reasons in the past more than once. It does reduce muscle mass and strength unfortunately, and it can make body composition favor fat - but to get obese on them requires those donuts all the same.

i can see how being on them a long time and not adjusting eating or activity to account for the composition changes could lead to incremental fat gains and have sympathy for this, but not somehow lead to ‘accidental’ obesity of the “oops, i woke up with morning and weigh 500lbs” type.
I took corticosteroids in high school for severe allergies and never got fat from them. Some people find an excuse for everything…but OBESITY does not happen by accident unless you have some disease like Prader-Willi which causes a person to feel insatiable hunger no matter how much they eat but is associated with mild retardation:

I am not sure what any of this has to do with the massive number of people on insulin simply because they won’t lose weight and exercise.

Am I the only one who thinks this sounds like a quote from The Outer Limits?

People are lazy. I have seen people who are handicapped, paralyzed, and even coached kids in Special Olympics to win medals who show more hard work, dedication, and determination than these land whales. If it’s worth winning, it’s worth fighting for.

But if they aren’t bothering you why do you care? Really?
The fact that I have to get all my dress shirts tailored because the Size 18 neck I wear with 36 inch sleeve length has an A-Shape that looks like a parachute when tucked in. That bothers me greatly! Fat people are costing me money!

I took 60 mg/day of predisone for almost 2 yrs and it royally sucked, and I lost a shit ton of weight. I got basically skinny fat. That stuff is horrible, I nearly had a hip replacement at the age of 19. Sometimes I think the complications are worse than the cause, in my case it wasn’t fatness, but auto-immune disorders.

I know this girl who’s sister didn’t qualify for Lap-band surgery. So she purposely gained 50lbs to qualify as dangerously obese.

I was fat and I can assure you I didn’t view it in a positive sexual light. My chubby co-workers rolled their eyes at your suspicions about them when I brought it up at work.

Wait…you brought up obesity as a sexual fetish at work and thought someone into that would not only freely admit it AT WORK, but you apparently singled out the morbidly obese co-workers you presently have to ask them this?

Wow, lady.
I’m sorry if I’ve shocked you.

I’m a blue-collar girl working in a filthy, dirty place (I’m being literal) where the male-to-female ratio is about 65:35 and people are anything BUT professional. The hours are long and everyone talks about everything, all the time. It may not be pretty but it’s often pretty funny.

Anything can come up when the fork and jack drivers have a rare moment of down time and sexual fetish is a popular topic. One co-worker has DOMNATE on his license plate and handcuffs hanging from his rear view mirror. The cuffs aren’t for show. One of our supervisors was revealed last year to be a notorious submissive. Even the Bible thumpers in the plant weren’t surprised. Believe me.

Pose a question to MY co-workers about virtually anything and you will be met with blunt, flat-out frankness. If they’re doing it they’re either talking about it or they’re not, and everybody else is.

After 10 years of practice I, however, have become adept at keeping everyone out of MY business. Every now and then someone will say, “Wait a minute… what about (Siren)…?” but they always come away with nothing new. I’m told I’m discussed when I’m not around but, since I don’t ever bring my private life into the workplace, it’s all supposition ;).

Where did you get that I was asking for sympathy for fat people?

I was merely asking that you and your like-minded friends stay out of their business. Fat people are not thinking of you (too much to keep them occupied, evidently), yet a segment of the fit community (of which you seem a part) appear downright obsessed with them. And by “them” I mean, in most cases, complete strangers. It’s bizarre and creepy.

Stay out of their business? If I’m in the health field, isn’t their health part of my business? How am I all in their business by making an observation in public? I already wrote that I do not hate obese people, however, their actions are illogical unless they want to remain obese. Why defend those actions as if they make sense?
You shouldn’t distract yourself in the clothing store like that while looking for a shirt. Besides, don’t the employees object?
