Weight Loss Rant

I already know this will offend some people but I have enough caffine in me to kill a bull and I need to vent. We are doing this ‘biggest loser’ contest at work where everyone chips in 25$ and the winner at the end keeps the pot. Most of the people are very overweight so instead of participating I threw in 100$ of my money just for the winner to help build the incentive. Now dealing with these people everyday I have to ask this question:

Why the hell do fat people need to brag and expect applause for losing weight. Like not going from overweight to fit, going from fat to less fat. I am sorry but I dont care that you lost 15-20 lbs, you still are overweight. Why the hell should I applaud you for doing what you are supposed to do as a normal human being? They come into my office like everyday to peacock and it drives me nuts.

Then they start to feel all entitled. Got this one guy who P90Xed his way from fat to skinny fat and now I have to hear this shit: “Well i lost 60 lbs on my last diet, you do not know what that is like”. Fuck you, you dont know what is like to have self control for your entire life and not get that way in the first place. I feel like fat people look at fit people and never realize that most of them are that way because of YEARS of work and discipline.

Ok, that felt better. I am not a racist, I am not a sexist or agist, but I am really a sizist it seems.

I find that most people who complain like this don’t actually look all that muscular and fit themselves.

I am all for fat people getting active. Them eating cheesecake everyday while complaining about how fat they are would be worse than this.

At least they are doing something.

Why hate?

Not sure why you contiually try to insinuate that I do not look muscular or fit. Either blind or dumb.

I am also all for fat people getting active, why i threw money out of my pocket in the contest and offered free coaching to everyone who wanted it.

The hate comes from the peacocking and bragging I keep seeing from people who havent really done anything other than stop doing very bad things to themselves.

Reminds me of a comedian, dont know which one maybe Seinfeld, but he was making fun of Jared from subway. Saying something like how bad were you eating that you lost weight from eating hogies.

Why don’t you just say, “Hey, you do realize you sound like a douche bag while bragging about you weight loss, right? The only person that cares or that it should matter to is you, so shut up about it already.”

Or you could just complain about it behind their back. That’s not annoying at all…

Reminds me of my friend’s workplace, they had a contest just like this. The winner won 2 grand. The winning weight loss total? 12 lbs. I couldn’t believe it, back in high school we had to lose 12 lbs over night to make wrestling weight. I sure wish I worked there, I would’ve taken that pot easily.

I suspect they consider you an example of the desired end result. They bounce a status update off of you hoping to receive feedback that will acknowledge progress made, encourage futher effort, and possibly you’ll reveal some information/detail that they are currently unaware of.

Haha, dont remind me of cutting weight for wrestling. Funny thing is I started my cut the day the contest went on, we are doing it by % weight lost, if I had entered I would be in second place. And I mean the majority of the people in this contest are 30-100 lbs overweight.

I also offered free diet coaching to everyone who wanted it. 3 people asked me, so I told them that all they have to do is track everything they eat for 3 days(over the weekend) and on Monday we can go over it and start from there. Not one person came back to me on monday and now a month later they still ask me for advice.

I wish it were that way. With one guy it is, the guy who is currently winning. We go out to lunch each week and go over his food choices progress etc, we already joke about what is going to spend my money on after.

Some of the others it just gets bad. And then they get made at me for telling them the truth about some foods or lack of progress. Some of them basically quit after losing 5 lbs! They met their goal! A 240 lb woman telling me they met their goal and they are done, ‘arnt you proud’.

15-20 lbs of weight loss is an accomplishment in and of itself for fatties. They “brag” about it because it’s work and they happen to be proud that they’ve made what is considered positive gains (or this case losses). I applaud you donating $100 dollars to the pot as a monetary incentive so I’m really not sure why you’re ranting in the first place.

Give them some verbal encouragement to continue to get into better shape as well. You’re obviously invested mentally into these peoples’ journey or else you wouldn’t have donated the money … it’s a little inconsistent to now be complaining that these people are losing weight and talking about it. Would you rather them brag about going up another pants size and how they scarfed 3 Whoppers and a basket of fries and topped it off with the fat they used to fry it?

I have found that getting emotionally invested in what other people are doing is generally not really worth it. The overwhelming majority of people, given the choice will choose to be mediocre in most areas of their lives. A very few will choose to excel at anything. Path of least resistance and all that. I have a finite amount of mental and emotional resources with which to pull myself out of my own mediocrity and attempt to excel, and I just can’t afford to tie them up giving a damn about such things.

LOL Waittz; nice rant.

Hey with all the recent fatty talk on these forums I have been wondering something… Is there seriously some widespread glandular/metabolic problem in human beings today or what? I mean are all these people really getting that fat just without even trying? For my whole life I’ve eaten as much as I want of whatever I want all the time. As a kid surrounding Easter, Halloween, and Christmas I would eat nothing but candy for literally days.

There have been huge stretches of time during my late teens and early 20’s when I would eat fast food, on average, three times a day, 7 days a week (mostly McDonalds: 2 McDoubles, 2 apple pies, medium fry, sometimes also a McChicken if I was really hungry; Egg McMuffins and Bacon Egg & Cheese McGrittles for breakfast obviously).

Sometimes during college I would eat nothing but ice cream and beer. I also went a really long time doing GOMAD and eating a pint of ice cream on top of that every day. I still do half GOMAD just cuz I like milk. I’m not super lean, but I’ve sure as shit never been fat. I don’t do any cardio (I’m starting to do a little finally).
That’s me at the top of that page if you need to see what I mean:

You were also probably more active than a lot of the chubby kids who watch TV and play video games all day. I was outside every chance I got as a kid.

Natural selection isn’t allowed to run its course anymore.

Pretty much my thoughts!

I know when I was in highschool I did the same thing for my strength numbers going up, and I did the same thing with my first serious diets! It feels good the first time, and I’m happy I had some support! I wouldn’t do the same anymore now though haha

I loathe people when it comes to diet plans/advice. EVERYBODY likes to consider it and think about how awesome it would be to get results but hardly anyone actually truly decides to apply themselves and do the work.

Time and time again I hear “Oh never mind what so and so was like I will stick to what you say 100% I want to get bigger and/or leaner”

…and time and time again I hear the excuses, I even get blamed for people’s laziness when it comes to dieting!

One girl tried to shout at me saying, oh all this stuff i was getting her to do was a load of shit cause she hadnt lost weight, turned out she was eating ice cream every fucking time she was at work!

I hate it more when people be little my own results though

“Oh you are naturally skinny though so its no problem you getting shredded, but me getting from 25% bf to 15% is such a hard challange I think no can face blah blah blah its so tough blahblah blah”

FUCKING FAT IDIOTS, QUIT SITTING ON YOUR ASS WATCHING REALITY TV AND JERKING OFF AND ACTUALLY TRY FOR ONCE IN YOURS LIVES.
