My point is the greatest people in the greatest country shouldn’t be lunging for a dangling half eaten carrot.
One mans trash is anothers treasure… Most of these guys come from central America… In all honesty I hear El Salvador, Gautamala, & Honduras more than I hear Mexico when I talk to these guys… Also for them they might be used to working all week for $20…They are happy to get $100 per day and food. They send most of the money back home and family gets to not starve. After a few months working day labor other Mexican crews pick them up and they get steady work. They are not slaves or treated as such but this is the nature of the ecomomy. 5 yrs ago I picked up a guy to strip wall paper. Now hes on my paint crew. Hes also saved his money and paid a immigration attorney to get him legit. Hes now a citizen has house and doing well. They know the game and are ok with it. I treat them fairly and they all like working for me. Most call me weekly.
No, I am living in the real world. We don’t need Mexicans to do shit. We abuse Mexicans by making them do that shit and then paying them shit.
Yes he did. And importing cheap labor illegally so that one can exploit them for cheap is as close as you can get to the real thing in this day and age…
I’m with you until this point. Nobody forces illegal workers to come here. Yes they are exploited.
This reminds me of your “practice what you preach” mentality re: people who think taxes should be higher.
Until such a time that Americans are stepping up to fill illegal’s jobs at similar value, should we be putting this much focus on immigration in leiu of evaluating industries that rely on them and make the necessary changes?
Not trying to be argumentative, just always wondered why DC thinks it’s tackling illegal immigration from a feasible angle
Because making business models work is not something the government needs to do. Nor is it something that the government can be expected to be good at.
Securing the border, on the other hand, is the government’s job.
Since when do either of these have a real impact on what the govt actually does?
I would argue making sure changes have a net positive impact on the country is the govts job as well
Non of this means crap… Americans don’t want to pay more for fruit, hotel rooms, and in large metro areas, the native labor pool is not big enough to fill the void for the hard stuff natives won’t do. If you want all immigration to be legit give up the idea you can still get a $0.99 cheeseburger.
This utopian concept that natives would fill the void if pay went up was tried before. In Alabama, they went hard line on illegals and it pretty much shut down the watermelon industry. Other states had the same result. It came down to the hard truth… You can pay workers more, drive them to the job but at end of day nobody wants to do it. A strawberry is a strawberry and I like $0.99 cheeseburgers The ideology means nada… Sure get rid of sicarios but leave the dudes that bust ass and do what lazy gringos dont or we all eat a shit sandwich
Depends on how you define “forces.” I think most sane people would recognize at the very least that there are forces at work which make people come here illegally.
Well, that’s the reform part of the immigration debate that needs to be dealt with. I am fine if people want to work here to better their lives at home, but their needs to be a legal angle that isn’t full of bureaucracy that allows people to apply and get legal passage.
I don’t mind them coming here. I mind them coming here illegally. It’s rife with corruption from one side of the border to the other and the illegals themselves are the ones who end up suffering the most.
I do think companies who hire illegals should be punished with fines and possible shutdown. I am not talking about the accidental hire that slips through the cracks but the companies with a established pattern of hiring illegals to under pay and over work.
And those Coyoteje’s need to be shot on site.
As far as shit jobs, those jobs would get done because they have to be done. That doesn’t mean people need to line up for them to prove they’re willing to do it.
Ever seen that show “Dirty Jobs”? They featured a lot of lily-white Americans doing some heinous, disgusting work. I don’t buy the ‘they do jobs we won’t’. I think it’s a load of crap. Having done some down and dirty nasty manual labor myself, I don’t think anybody is ‘too good’ to do hard work.
The question isn’t if the jobs HAVE to be done (which if we’re being honest they don’t), its what happens to the respective industry when the jobs have to be filled at 3-4x the payroll cost.
Could that line of thinking be applied to your views re: pay more taxes first if you want the rest of us to?
Sure they do. How many of them are making 4 dollars an hour? Because that’s what the debate is REALLY about. Not if physical bodies exist to do the job, but if bodies exist to do the job at the rate required to not move prices enough to murder the industry in question
Unless we’re discussing human trafficking and coercion then no. That wasn’t the thrust of Pats comment.
The economic incentives at work are a different conversation. If we’re all “forced” to move to a country where the average citizen is doing better then our current nation, then we’re all compelled to illegally migrate to Switzerland or Sweden.
That could totally be a South Park episode.
Not when you consider a total level of value a country gives.
Consider America. One of its greatest asset (value) is our perceived concept of uber freedom. Nobody is “freer” than us. Things like that inevitably tie into how we valuate a country as “livable.”
Or the fact that most Americans can only speak English and are unwilling to learn another language.
I was triggered by this part lol. But were are one of the better games in town even with our flaws.
Better is relative. The gap between Mexicans who come here illegally and Americans is a lot greater than the gap between Americans and the Swiss. In other words, you have someone from a shithole country coming to a non shithole country vs someone from a non shithole country going to another non shithole country.
Not only are we freer, but our trees are freery than everyone else’s freedom. We have the best freedom. In fact, we’re gonna make America freer again!

I have only one question. Do you support the exploitation of illegals for their cheap labor?
