I don’t think a 22 year old man should be a father. A woman can be a mother at a younger age than a man should be a father. Especially these days where adult males are still playing video games and watching comic book movies.

I’ve noticed a lot of couples where the male is conventionally attractive but the female isn’t
this was especially the case where I did undergrad. Certainly a conventionally attractive man studying a lucrative major could have his pick of attractive women right?

There could be a variety of reasons. Chemistry, shared interests, varying definitions of attractive, right time and place and on and on.

Men are better suited to be 1-2 points higher on the attraction scale than their long term mate. Being her best option is a more stable relationship dynamic than her being his best option - note Hypergamy.

Fashion trends. There are tons of women that have youthful beauty. Not exceptional by any standard but not unpalatable either.
Then they dye their hair a stupid unflattering color. And a couple trendy septum piercings. And some silly meaningless and poorly placed tattoos. And what ever dumb clothes they wear.
And there you have it. One formerly decently presentable girl/woman turned into a blue green red bunch of yarn tangled up around some cheap jewelry and a crumpled up page from a comic book.

I actually do not think this is confirmation bias. I think there are men from normal places, away from big cities, exposed to mostly nice women. Perhaps these are places with so-called “conservative” or “traditional” values. That is, they are exposed to women who were properly trained to be women, and likely women who simply have inherited predispositions for being modest and well-behaved. This is unlike cities, which, although have refined upper-class people, have no shortage of nervy, brash, criminal, daring, and poorly-raised people.
In the time and place in which I grew up, there was no shortage of aloof, permissive, and dare I say, stupid parents, who allowed their daughters to do things likely all in this thread would disapprove of, including allowing their daughters to be in dangerous positions with young men who would likely inspire violent ideation in well-adjusted fathers. But, under such circumstances, many women act how they really want to act when there are no expectations, guidance, or limitations imposed on them. That is, they act on feral sexual instinct, which perhaps some men from certain areas aren’t exposed to. Some people do not realize how primitive that instinct is. That’s why we often hear how men have to “step it up,” rather than consider that female sexual impulses have nothing to do with virtues in men. That’s why men shouldn’t base their self image solely on female validation.
I’ve said it before, from my experience in the time and location in which I was raised, the default setting for pretty young woman, even some average-looking women, without the proper training, guidance, and limitations, is to go for men we don’t want around, but who they actually want.
So no, again, I don’t think it’s a bias. You’re simply observing what many women want to act like when the brakes are not there.
This post might annoy some people, but that’s not my intention.
