The Danish Viking: back to 531: Road to 2-3-4 Plates

U willing to get thicc for it?

No not really thicc, but I’ll gain a little over the year maybe up to 80 - 81 kg BW.
It will be slow, I could just binge for a week and I’ll be there.

I think you know what you need to do.

SGSS - Simple Guaranteed Size & Strength.

It’s a very basic program but it works. I’ve adopted its progression for improving my strength on a few lifts and it doesn’t disappoint.

Hah, I am aware of your xp with it. Was just suggesting that maybe after a good weekend of eating his face off, Mort can get up to 80kg and instantly achieve all of his goals.

Never tried it myself. I am a simple person.

Mort and I think alike - more strength, more muscle, but no fat!

I gained some weight during the program and got up to 240. I could feel my belly helping me brace on certain lifts. It’s harder to squat when I’m leaner. It’s unfortunate that the same mass that helps you lift makes you look fat.

Dude, be nice. @simo74 sometimes reads this log.

Just teasing. That is kind of how I think as well, save for that 4 or 5 months per year were I give no fucks and do 531.

And I thought it was just a given at this point: a bit of extra cushion definitely helps the squats. I find the opposite is true for DLs, being leaner is a little easier.

Just to clarify: never tried SGSS or never tried eating your face off? Because I’ve no real experience on SGSS, but i fully recommend stuffing your face.

I will take that as the compliment I was sure it was intended to be.
Couple of things I will say about this.

Firstly about me, when I was skinnier and weaker, no one cared and it didn’t make me feel any better. Now I am stronger and a little more cuddly, all of my kids comment on me being strong and my son is obsessed with his muscles. My daughter tells me all the time how warm and cuddly I am. Ok she does also say this is because of the ā€˜blubber’ but if I tell her I am going to diet and get abs she tells me that I am not allowed. I also love the feeling of being and getting stronger and love that my work shirts get tight on the arms and some of my pants no longer fit my legs.
The second is for all of you who train for strength and muscles and abs and beach muscles etc etc. Just pick a horse and stick with it. Be honest with yourself about what you really want. If you want to be strong eat and train like the strong guys did to get there, talk to guys like @T3hPwnisher and @flipcollar . If you want good powerlifting numbers, listen to guys like @MarkKO. If you want to build muscle and stay lean and look good then @jackolee is the man to talk to.
We all need to stop believing what we see in the magazines. We aren’t all going to look like Arnie if we train 4 days a week and supplement with creatine. If you really want the body and the look you need to do everything. Which for a lot of people means a little extra help. I am not suggesting you go that route just being honest about what it may take.
If you ask yourself the question and the answer is you want everything Strength, muscles, abs etc. then In my experience you are going to fall short somewhere. Pick one thing and go for it 100%, do everything required and what you may find is that some of the other things you wanted came along for the ride.

I gave myself a Mohawk! What more do I need to do???

Sad fact: my role model is The Rock and he weighs 282 lbs at a similar level of body fat. Stupid genetics and steroids.

The good news is that big arms, delts, and pecs can overshadow some belly fat. I don’t want a six pack; I just want that solid mid section absent of fat rolls.

You left out. Crazy worth ethic, 110% dedication, a career that demands he looks a certain way.
Also think about how the rock trained to get that look. He may have done some strength based training when he was getting big and strong but now he trains like a bodybuilder pure and simple.

This is the best shit hey, my son is always commenting on how weak other dad’s look, haha. He’s been training pretty hard himself, he squat 60kg for 5 the other week (he only weighs 50kg I think), now he’s gone and changed to some random bodyweight thing he’s read about.

It is the best. Try and get him off that IG model shite. Lol.
Actually If he wants to BB great, better than wanting to play Xbox all day

Next step is he buys gymshark… it’s quality stuff to be fair if a bit pompous

@simo74 he will chop and change and come back to the iron I reckon. He’s already been through this phase before. He’s been playing a fair bit of PS4 lately with this virus shit going on as no kids are out anywhere, skatepark shit etc, but he still keeps active. The Mrs and I are always getting him to help grab soil from the car etc, he’s proud he can easily lug a big bag around and his 23 year old sister looks like she’ll have a heart attack just picking one up :astonished:

@guineapig I’ve got no idea what a gymshark is, however he would not be buying it as we are ultimately his bank

This has been the lesson for me in 2020. Great point.

It is not only good advice for the gym but also in other areas like too. It is very easy to get caught up on what everyone else is doing or what others think you should do. The sooner you decide for yourself what you really want the easier it is to take the first step towards it.

Ryderwear shorts are where it’s at. Comfortable, and if you get them on sale also cheap for decent shorts.
