I like that grammatical format more better.

I hit my quads so hard I think I fuck them up sometimes especially at the bottom portion. I’ll get up in the morning and will flex and I can literally see it twitching and twist up into a knot then twitch some more while I’m in utter pain barely able to walk unless I deep massage it or let it subside.
Weird as hell. Does this happen to anyone else?
yes. I love it.
I got chicken legs :(. I don’t mean to really, I’d like to focus more on legs, but I don’t have access to a squat rack currently, and I don’t think there are any substitutes as great are there?
Also is there any truth to the whole squatting stimulating whole body growth thing? I.E Remember there was an argument that lasted a fair while on BB.com that had one group stating that when leg work is included, upper body growth is stimulated as much as %50 more than just isolated upper body work etc.

You could do front squats from the bottom position.
Just an idea.

If you aren’t training legs because there isn’t “as great a substitute” then that’s just silly. I prefer back squat over any, but there are many options and most should be included at some point.
Front Squats (as Itchy said)
Split squats
Lunges
Barbell Hack Squats
Leg Press (if they have one)
Glute/Ham raise
cueball
I’m guilty of having chicken legs, but I try like hell to get rid of them. I’ve worked out legs twice a week going on 2 to 3 years now, and after most workouts I’m still feeling sore 3 days after. I have good ATG form and decent deadlift numbers, but pathetic squat numbers (385lbs to 245lbs weighing at 180lbs). I blame a lot of this on my long ass legs and arms, but short torso.
My legs have grown a little 1-2", but it seems like all that really grows is my ass and back. I recently tried switching to front squats, and that seems to be helping quad development a little bit. I also started the Hungarian Oak Leg Blast, and I think it has a lot of promise.
My calves are only 14" flexed at 180lbs and 6’. I’m sure I look like a cartoon character in the gym, but at least I try. My calf muscle doesn’t even start till halfway up my lower leg.

Same here! And my bicep doesn’t even start until half way up my arm, and now that I think of it the same goes for my triceps! FUCK! My genetics must suck ass…

I definitely feel for you, my bicep does the same thing, but it’s not as bad as my calves. I feel like a jackass training anything but legs because people probably assume I never do any leg work. Sometimes I’ll just do calf raises in between every set of curls/pullups/bench/etc.
I squat, legpress, front squat, with extremely heavy weight.
My ass, quads, and hams are very large.
But my calves are above average at best.
Nice definition, but not huge.
I can calf raise with very heavy weight, and my vertical jump is good.
My calves get strong, just dont seem to be growing anymore no matter what I do to them.
I considered getting extremely fat for a while to get myself some “fat man calves” but it doesn’t seem worth it.

For the record I was being completely sarcastic lol. Calves start half way up your lower leg…that’s completely normal lol. And my biceps attach near my elbow joint hence “half way up my arm” haha.
Sarcasm doesn’t go well over the interwebs O.o

Here’s a pic of some US sprinters (Shawn Crawford, Bernard Williams and Justin Gatlin). They have strong but not massive calves but you can be sure that these guys squat, deadlift and do some form of Olympic lifts. It’s very possible for someone to have huge Quad and hamstrings but their calves may be small in Bodybuilding terms.
Wait…so you are talking about guys who WERE training calves because they had small calves?
I train my calves almost daily and they still don’t look “big”. I hope no one is judging what I train based on a muscle group this reliant on genetics.
Almost every day? I would suggest treating your calves like any other muscle group and train them once or twice a week(heavy) for better results. No wonder they are small… Give them some time to grow my friend
My calves are big, and probably more defined than any other bodypart.
More because they had to haul my ass around at close to 300 bills for two years than any sort of specific work though.

Haha I didn’t get it until you explained it either.

To be fair, Calves recover the fastest of any muscle group. Many people train them everyday. They can handle much more frequency and volume then any other muscle.

Well they do help you walk around day after day. My motto when training them, if at all, is to hit them with everything in the tank. Since the fuckers are carrying 245lbs for 18hrs, I hit them with high volume and heavy weight. If I can walk the day after, I didn’t do my job.

Uh, gee, let me work on giving them more time as they are so small and I am a beginner. One day, when I grow up, they will be HUGE.
Dude, I have gained at least 3" on them over the years. They used to truly be small. At 18" they are probably technically bigger than many here. However, given the size of the rest of me, when I say they are “small”, I do not mean they are truly TINY.
I train then daily (or most days) because that has led to more growth. I’m not a newbie.
Don’t forget the tibialis anterior - front of the leg adds mass too (& function :p)
Tibialis gets no love ![]()
My philosophy is to do calves at least as often as you whack it.
