This link has a great picture of Ed Hochuli. A better picture to show off his size. May I look like this when I’m 55…

That pic is a little better, but it is always easier to look better clothed.

I still think he’s not as big as he used to be, becuase my perception of what is big has changed. I used to think his arms were massive (for an everyday guy), but now, as I get more serious into training, and as I grow myself, he just doesn’t seem as impressive.

Impressive as a referee – yes. Impressive as a lifter – I hope I look better when I’m 55.

Why are people not calling you names and hurling insults for this statement? That is exactly what I said.

Prof

If it makes you feel better, I read this thread about 10 minutes ago and wanted to respond, but figured the thread was dead.

If you want the truth though Malonetd is just as moronic as you were. He ISN’T trying to be a weightlifter moron!
(to malonetd)

You make yourself look small and foolish qualifying your idiotic statememnt with “for an everyday guy.”

I predict you won’t look better at 55 because of your body image problems you have now. In fact, I bet he looks better now, at 55, than you look now.

Is that better X–I’m glad you opened the door for me.[/quote]

That is much better. Thank you. I want equal opportunity hatred for all.

I don’t give a shit if this guy’s goal is to not be a bodybuilder. I was under the impression that THIS SITE promoted goals more in that direction. Again, I applaud the guy for being active.

I don’t, however, consider him THAT great at staying in shape because he isn’t Ed Corney. I can only assume that many here only have that as a goal? I, personally, am shooting for more. Will it happen? Tune in decades from now to find out. How much do you think internet access will cost by then?

Bottom line, regardless of what’s been said and whose said it, the guy’s fitness is fairly admirable and he looks very well for a non-bodybuilder his age. I see no reason to arbitrarily hold him to the standard of a senior bodybuilder, advanced or otherwise, simply because that’s what most of us on this site happen to be.

In any case, there are many benefits to lifting and being active and most of us whose goal is impressive size care about those as well.

This may sound sarcastic, but I’m really not trying to be. He is lifting weights, right? Wouldn’t that make him a “weightlifter”? I will assume you mean he isn’t trying to be a “bodybuilder”.

Well, he doesn’t look great for a bodybuilder or a college athlete or whatever. Only when compared to “an everyday guy” does he stand out.

Easy, chief. What body image problems do I have now? I’m going to assume that was just needless insulting thrown out to balance things out with Prof X. And if you want to make body comparisons, go ahead. I have pics on here, just oogie me.

I just don’t get it. The guy looks ok, I’m not bashing him, but I’m not worshiping him either. The title of this thread is “The Buff Referee.” Tell me, would you really call him buff?

First and foremost what’s up with chief?

Semantics w/r/t weightlifter means little to me. That is not what is implied by the term. Never assume.

He’s 55. How do you compare him to a modern college athlete. He’s in damn good shape. He carries what appears to be low bodyfat.

I would never refer to anyone as buff!

I called you chief because you said I had body image issues.

Well, then what do you mean?

I don’t think it’s fair to compare him to a college athlete. That’s why I initially compared him to “an everyday guy”

I think for the most part we agree. I am in no way bashing the guy. I just feel that I can achieve more. Like I said, 4-5 years ago I looked up to his physique. Now, while I am happy for the guy, my goals are higher and I am not as impressed.
