The Boxing Thread

just bumping this up by posting some upcoming fights…

March 19: Manny Pacquiao Vs. Erik Morales

May 14: Felix Trinidad Vs. Winky Wright

June 5: Kostya Tsyzu Vs. Ricky Hatton

Predictions?

I’ve always said that Morales plays right into Pac’s style. so i guess i have to stick with that prediction. Pac by TKO, in possibly the most exciting fight of the year.

Trinidad and Wright is a truly tough call. But i’m gonna have to pick Tito Trinidad in a true pick’em match-up.

IMO the fight between kostya and hatton is a no-brainer. kostya by KO inside 9.

Between Tito and Wright, it’s a very VERY tough call. My guess is Wright in a controversial decision.

Pac by TKO or KO over Morales.

since I don’t really know Hatton, I’ll make a very unfair prediction: Tszyu - he’s the current champ, been a Jr. Welter all his career, defeated strong fighters when the odds were against him. But who knows, maybe his time is up, and he’ll get old overnight, and Hatton will win.

Another fight to add:

What are your predictions on

Vitali Klitschko vs. Hasim Rahman?

my prediction: Klitschko by KO in round 5.

hatton has been VERY protected by his camp. fighting only in the UK and facing only B class opposition. definately a huge step up to fight kostya…since he hasn’t even faced anyone in the top ten yet. kostya is too proven, experienced and seems to be getting better with age. he’s been unstoppable since his fight with vince phillips.

about the trinidad/wright match…do you really think a Don King fighter will lose a close/controversial decision? just throwing that out there.

i like morales a lot, but he’s just too suited for pac’s style. he’ll try to make it a war and probably get stopped.

i think Vitaly will KO rachman inside 6 rounds.

I think PacMan probably KO’s Morales, but it should be a great fight! Morales knows that if he loses this fight it will probably be his last good payday.

I keep going back and forth on the Tito/Winky fight. Wright has all the tools to beat Tito, but I think Trinidad pulls it out by late KO.

Kostya KO’s Hatton

I also think that a motivated, in shape Rachman causes an upset and KO’s Vitali. Although I’ve heard that this fight is off due to an injury to Vitali.

Just had to give this one last bump before the weekend. I have a good feeling that Morales vs. Pacquiao could well be fight of the year material. I’m still going with PacMan, but with his reach and his power, Morales could catch him coming in with a big right hand.

i’m pumped for this fight…definately worth paying the PPV prices. sticking with Pac since i originally went with him based on styles. morales is a hell of a fighter and i wouldn’t be surprised at all if he wins. a true warrior with a great chin. a close fight to call really, but i just think that morales will try to make it a war and possibly be stopped in the late rounds. Pac by tko…i wouldn’t care if i’m wrong, gonna be a great fight!

speaking of great fights i downloaded and watched the following last night…
hagler vs. leonard
hagler vs. hearns
gatti vs. ward 1
and…kostya making zab do the funky chicken via KO 2.

You know, one of the doubts I had going in to this fight was whether or not PacMac would be over confident and not be in the best shape for this fight. I was checking out some pics from the weigh in and he is definitely in shape! Almost looks like Bruce Lee. I hope the above link works.

Well, as predicted Pacquiao/Morales was a great fight. So was Arce/Hussein BTW. Morales boxed really well and controlled the distance. I felt that PacMan spent most of the fight just looking to land a big left hand, without really trying to win rounds. I don’t know if a rematch would end any differently.

Here’s a question: What fight would you rather see now? Morales/Pacquiao II, Barrera/Paquiao II, or Barrera/Morales IV?

how about JMM/Barrera or JMM/Morales or JMM/pac II ? more interesting IMO. of the originally listed choices…Morales/Pac II.

Too late to predict Pac/Morales but it was as I expected. Against RMM, Pac showed that he does not have a plan b. RMM had a plan b and I bet he even had a plan c.

Kostya is unbeatable, I’ve decided. Hattan will get KTFO and then he’ll move up and take poor Zabs belts away too.

The Rock will beat Bitschko by KO in the championship rounds 10-12.

I love Tito but he does not have a plan b either as we saw against Hopkins. Winky will watch the tape just like Morales watched the RMM/Pac tape.

On a side note, I think the earlier poster was right about stepping down in weight and getting KTFO. I strongly believe that when Roy Jones came back down from HW to fight Tarver he basically messed with the Fast Twitch/Slow Twitch muscles and was just
not the same fighter nor will he ever be.

Good call juice, I shouldn’t have left JMM out of the mix. I would really like to see JMM vs. Barrera. Rumour has it that negotiations are already underway for a Morales/PacMan rematch in Sept.

JMM/Barrera or JMM/Morales would be great matches IMO.

i don’t really care to see a Morales/MAB 4…or Pac/morales 2…or Pac/JMM 2. having seen the first set of fights, i don’t see a different outcome (except for JMM getting a UD over pac in the rematch)…

on to the heavies. april 30th John “huggy bear” or “jab and grab” Ruiz is fighting James “fat ass” Toney. i literally can’t stand either one of these fighters. Ruiz is boooooring and has limited skills, and toney is a blown up fat middleweight who talks a ton but has done nothing at HW to show he belongs.

predictions?

I’d like to see PacMan fight Morales in a rematch, and JMM vs. Barrera.

Currently, there are negotiations going for Bernard Hopkins vs. Jermain Taylor in July. Hopkins says that after, he will take on the winner of Tarver/Johnson, and in his final fight, he’ll fight the winner of Trinidad/Wright.

Predictions on any of the above?

As much as I would love for someone, ANYONE to get rid of Ruiz, I predict he beats Toney by decision. I can’t stand to watch Ruiz fight, but he has developed a style that works for him and wins fights.
Toney is a joke! How he got to be a mandatory contender is beyond me. Toney has not done anything significant in years, let alone at heavyweight. I would love to see Ruiz get knocked out, but it ain’t gonna happen just yet.

I don’t know about Taylor/Hopkins, Jermain has potential, but I think Hopkins is too experienced. I think that potentially, the toughest fight for Hopkins would be Wright if he beats Trinidad.

Agreed.
so what do you think of Hopkins/Wright? Now that, I would call a toughie.

Very tough call. Wright is very experience and a great boxer. I also think he has a solid chin. Either way, it would probably go to a decision. Right now I’d say it’s a pick 'em fight. We’ll know more after Wright fights Tito.

Dont forget. Vargas beat Wright. Nobody has beaten Hopkins since the early nineties.

That was a very close fight and many people felt at the time that Winky should have won (I can’t remember who I thought won, but it was very close).

Hopkins hasn’t lost since '93 when he was dominated by Roy Jones Jr. (which I have downloaded if anyone wants it) Hopkins hasn’t lost in a long time, but he is now 40 and he has ruled over a fairly mediocre middle weight division. Apart from Tito the best guys B-Hop has had to fight are guys like Robert Allen and Antwon Echols.

i think huggy bear ruiz can beat toney. the man just wins…i don’t know how…but he wins.

taylor has all the tools and more importantly the style to beat hopkins. nard looked ready for the taking against eastman imo…eastman just wasn’t agressive enough. tough call…b-hop has all the experience and is a great boxer, taylor is young, powerful and hungry. going with the upset on this one. taylor wins.

if b-hop fights johnson again i think glen whoops him. he is a totally different fighter from their first meeting.

hopkins beats tarver…as he is highly overrated.

tito or wright would be a pick’em match against hopkins IMO. wright/hopkins goes the distance. tito/hopkins ends in a late stoppage. have to go with b-hop against wright…and i see redemption for trinidad in the rematch.

With all the other fights going on and new ones being announced, I forgot about a good one. Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales is coming up pretty soon. Do not miss this one guys, should be a great fight!
