I haven’t looked through this thread to see if anybody addressed this, but does anybody know where you can buy videos, DVDs of past fights? I’d love to see Tyson/Holyfield 1 again. [/quote]
I’m not sure, I have never ordered any from anywhere. I would do a search on the net or check for adds in some of the printed boxing mags like KO or Ring magazine. Before it went offline I was able to download a few good fights off WinMX.
Interesting fight announced awhile ago. Shane Mosley against Fernando Vargas. I think both are past their peak, but good crossroads fight. Could go either way.

I’m sitting around waiting for the Jones-Tarver PPV to start I can’t wait for it to get going. I decided to kill some time on the internet for a bit and I discovered this bit of recent boxing news:
The Russian Nicolai Valuev just won a UD over Larry Donald to become to #1 contender for John Ruiz’s WBA title. Although I don’t think much of Valuev, I’m curious to see how Johnny Louise would use his jab and grab style against some 7’ tall 330 lbs with something like an 85" reach.
Valuev might be the answer to our prayers! yes he is crap, yes he is a sideshow, but i think he’d give huggy bear ruiz fits. johnny jab and grab doesn’t seem to be the type of guy to back down or be intimidated, and i will admit that he is a rough and tough dude…so he would be there to fight i’m sure. interesting matchup.

Bump.
Did anyone see Valuev-Ruiz last night? Norman “Stoney” Stone at his best.

No, but I read about it. While I’m happy that Ruiz is no longer champ, I can’t help but be depressed about how shitty the heavyweight division is. I’m actually excited that Shannon Briggs is making a comeback. How depressing is that?
Anyone know when Gatti, Chaves jr. ( sp? ) or the dude that dances fights again. His names is Emanuael Agustus or something like that. Watched his last few fights, dude is funny as hell.
It’s been two yrs. now that I met this one boxer @ Gatti’s training site. Will look up his name, can’t recall it right now. The guy the cooliest/nicest guy one could ever meet or talk to. Lightning quick, lefty & he’s like 35 or 36 & looks like he’s 23. HIs conditioning is amazing. It’s Ricky something or other. From the Miami area.
Whats your guys thoughts on Wlad? I was never a big fan before, but I think that with Emmanuel Steward at the helm hes the man to beat. He was a bad match up for Byrd, but the dominating way he dispatched such a slippery fighter impressed me.

His last fight against Byrd definitely was better than the ones with Williams and Peter. Wladimir is a big guy and has decent skill, but his chin definitely remains questionable and his performance has been inconstant. As some have presumed earlier in this thread, it could be (have been?) a confidence issue. Maybe his recent upward tendency will make a difference.
That being said, I consider him the only fighter at present who has a good chance of stopping Valuev. This is mainly due to the overall quality of the heavyweight division rather than Valuev’s skills, though. On the other hand, in his fight against “What the Heck” Beck, Valuev weighed in more than 10 pounds lighter than usual and actually showed some basic combinations and a few series of clean hits (against a less than stellar oponent). Would be an interesting match-up.
Gatti’s next fight is July 22 against Carlos Baldomir for the legitimate welterweight championship, as well as the WBC belt.
On another note, any chance we could get an interview with Mackie Shilstone, the trainer responsible for bringing Michael Spinks and Roy Jones to heavyweight title belts from light heavy, and who is currently working on bringing Bernard Hopkins up to light heavyweight?

Thanks for the heads up on the Gatti fight! My dad was in Vero Bch. today, stopped by the gym & didn’t see Buddy anywhere around. And of course found out he had already left with Gatti.
