The Boxing Thread III

How about Khan calling for a jr. welterweight tourney between him, maidana, alexander, and bradley?..also apparently all camps are on board except Bradley’s camp. Of course Bradley’s people are saying if the money is right its a go.

I don’t believe Khan will do well, however this will finally get Alexander and Bradley to fight.

So Chagaev thoroughly dominated Meehan over 12 rounds.
The tall australian had nothing to control or intimidate the “White Tyson” (silly name).

Chagaev - Haye seems next, and I can think of worse matches, especially since strenghtwise, I rate both similarly.
Haye is good with his jab and footwork, but so are Chagaev’s slipping and weaving skills.
This will be interesting.

I’d watch it, but there’s still no big names up in there. Maybe Khan, but he’s got no American following… I like Alexander, but my man needs some more time before his name really gets recognized.

I like tournaments in any style though.
HBO will be doing the tournament if the fighters agree[if Bradley doesn’t I think he’ll be replaced]. I think it’ll be to build up a fighter to replace Mayweather[probably will only fight a few more fights] and Pacquiao[will most likely be fighting two-three more fights]. If HBO makes a 24/7 like program I think this could end up being a really big tournament, without it I still think it’ll fair better than the Super Six.

Anyway, what did you guys think of the Khan/Malignaggi undercard? Personally I think they should have Daniel Jacobs’ fight on the undercard for a few reasons:

-Daniel Jacobs is an unbeaten, entertaining, and viable prospect. Victor Ortiz is trying to rebound his career but I don’t think he’ll be an elite fighter.

-The Jacobs’ fight was more entertaining.

-If Jacobs’ steps it up in class and continues to win he could have an entertaining fight with Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez… But where can Ortiz go? I just can’t see him beating a title holder at 140.

Why not? Kids got skills. Just his heart is the question. But he did well the other night, and he’s got some heavy hands.
Maidana made him quit and I don’t see Ortiz besting him. Bradley and Alexander are better than Maidana, I can’t see him beating either of them. Amir Khan would be the best choice for him but I think Khan can take him.

There are just some people that wont go beyond being a contender, I just think he’s one of them. He can beat other fighters in the top 10 but I just don’t think he’ll beat the top fighters at 140 or 147.

Jacobs however has had some televised fight, will most likely make a run for the #1 spot at 160, and has a legitimate shot at getting the #1 spot[I think he can anyway].

Ugh. ugly win for V.K. against Sonowski. He is looking his age. I love VK, but i think his best days are behind him and he needs to hang it up before some lesser fighter beats him just because he stayed in the game too long.

I think he’ll run out of opponents before someone will come around that can challenge him, and honestly I think his brother is the more likely of the two to get beaten sometime in the future.

I dunno golden…he does not pt any weight behind his punches anymore. does not set with his feet and rotate his hips. he just arm punches. he is big and strong enough that it still does damage…but he does not have the power he once had. i think his knees are bothering him again. remember, he is 38 and before he even started his boxing career, i think he had around 100 pro kick boxing matches? how many surgeries on his back and knees now?

I don’t think he’ll be fighting many more years, and David Haye is really the only peron that could currently challenge either Klitschko but I doubt he’ll fight Vitali if given the choice. Unless he’s injured during a fight he’ll probably finish out his career without losing again.

All those boys can really box though. I can’t wait for this to happen.

Cotto V. Foreman…who ya got
Im takin Cotto…hopin he can make a strong finish before his career is over.

COTTO!!

I don’t think Cotto is as damaged as people think. At least not that damaged. Still I’d like to have seen him in training. Any vids of him sparring floating about?

He looked good in training and still lost to Pacquiao, he just has mental problems. After the loss to Margarito he’ll never be an elite fighter again, just a good one. I think he’ll beat Foreman but beyond that he wont have many options. He can either fight Margarito or Pacquiao[don’t think he’ll be interested in either fight] or try to fight someone at 154[I don’t think he’s it anymore, he can beat Foreman but wont reach his previous status in the sport]. Not to mention that Bob Arum has heavily favored Foreman in this fight, so I can’t quite say I think Cotto will get a close decision.

Personally I think he’s been damaged good ever since the loss to Margarito, and honestly it’s self-evident: Cotto coasted to victory against Clottey, got humiliated against Pacquiao, and is now seemingly being used to build up an opponent for Pacquiao. The “old” Cotto would still be a major figure in the welterweight division, using his jab, and doing what got him to the position he was once in.

Roy is Back!..Roy Jones Jr is the new color commentator taking over for Lennox Lewis

Foreman is a fucking warrior, but still Cotto didn’t impress me, he couldn’t knock down a guy fighting on one leg.

Ok…he ended the fight with a left hook to the body.

Don’t even pay attention to that dude.

And Cotto looked good. Foreman’s a tough cat but was completely outclassed, like I figured. Dude just doesn’t have enough power to hurt you, and he ended up just getting walked down and beaten up.

Loved cotto’s body punching. I think he is going to go through a renaissance with Manny training him now.
I’ve my doubts, beating Foreman in no way signifies a comeback. Cotto is however making the necessary steps to being a force in the sport again and I hope he regains his former position, at this time I just can’t say whether he’s really looking good or not, Foreman is just too notoriously mild.

Personally, I’d like to see a rematch. I don’t know if Foreman would be interested in one, but it’s a good fight and I’m sure people would like to see Foreman healthy through the entire fight. Not to mention that Foreman probably gained some fans by continuing to fight, so he and Cotto could most definitely get a good draw in NY. The worst thing about Cotto’s career at this point is Bob Arum will want to put him against Margarito.

Good news though, Bob Arum has put Pacquiao being open to testing within 14 days on the record. It seems like the fight will be made this time.

No, his knee failed on him again, it wasn’t any liver shot that dropped him

seriously dude they showed the replay over and over again, his knee didnt even buckle…he took the cottos left hook and lost all air and energy he had.

And Irish i agree Cotto looked like a BOXER, but I really agree with what Max Kellerman Had to say after the fight if you guys caught any of it.
