The Bodybuilder Bunker

Really cool thread. Man it got big fast.
A few thoughts:
You can get a big chest without benching. There are so many different chest exercises that work just as well, if hypertrophy is the goal.

Don Long’s body rejected the kidney transplant and as far as I know he has been on dialysis ever since. I look him up and he did compete in the '06 Atlantic City Pro. He didn’t place and I couldn’t find a picture. It sounds crazy to think of a guy on dialysis putting his body through all the stuff those guys do to get into pro contest shape.

My favorites I guess are:
1)Phil Heath
2)Nasser El Sonbaty
3)Kai Greene

I like Heath’s physique and I guess I like the way he got so good so fast after only training a few years and I’m interested to see how far he can ultimately go with those genetics. It’s kind of the same thing with Kai. He was good natural, but with a year or two of chemical enhancement he has gotten so much better. He seems fresh and exciting and it will also be interesting to see how far he goes. I also like the way he made it to third at the Arnold in such a simple, hardcore environment as shown on his video on Muscular Development.

I see, so your into the “max muscle on your frame” type of guys. I like all three of those guys too.

Ronnie before the gut was amazing(er) lol he is still amazing GH gut or not.

JJ is probably 4 or 5 on my list especially after this last year in fullerton with Milos.

Branch is just one of those guys you envy because of how much muscle he carries. He looked great at the Arnold.

Gerdy
I guess you could say that, it’s probably more of the fact that I see guys like them (and Kevin Levrone, he was close to making the list,) that can just move a shit ton of weight. I hate the stigma that bodybuilders are weak, and guys like this happen to disprove that notion. It’s funny, too, because they’re some of the biggest in the game right now. Coincidence?

what are some good ways i can improve my explosiveness?

Some things I’ve been doing to incorporate explosiveness into my training are things like speed deads and squats, hang and power cleans, and full barbell snatches. If you can find a good way to put them in your program, I don’t see any reason why Oly-moves wouldn’t help.

i dont know how to do oly lifts.

i guess ill just take weight off and lift faster.
They’re worth checking out, especially if you’re interested in putting some explosiveness in your routine. I will say, though, that they’re fucking hard to master, especially cleans and full snatches. There’s nothing like walking in the weight room, though, as everyone’s doing kickbacks and preacher curls, and doing big sets of hang-cleans to confuse the fuck out of everyone.

If we’re talking just PURELY physiques mine are:

 1. Flex Wheeler (any year)
 2. Jay Cutler (2001) - yup
 3. Brian Buchanan (insane v-taper 1990’s?)

I’m sure I’m forgetting some though.

yea dude it looks fuckin badass doing that shit especially when you do it with heavyweight. but i heard you need to be taught by a coach or else youll fuck up and teach yourself the wrong way and make it harder to do it right when someone actually trys teachin you for real.

so for now ill just stick to what i been doin.

on another note, have any of you tried CT’s method of after your set doing a really slow rep where you hold it in different parts instead of just holding it at the peak? i did it the other day on 1 arm preach curls to try and bring up my left arm and wow, my arm fuckin kills today, right in the spot between the bicep and elbow. nice. im definately going to start incorporating this in some more lifts, probaly things like pushdowns and maybe overhead pressing.

LFT781 - What article/thread does CT discuss that method?

im not sure, but i think he mentions it in the intro to USCTrojan’s PC

i like what he says because other effective methods incorporate very similar methods. he seems to know his shit, one of the only authors that actually LOOKS like he knows what hes talking about so thats why i read what he writes.

Totally agree, I’m still just really getting into researching/following BBing as a sport so I don’t really have a list to follow up with. How did he never win an Olympia =/

Unfortunately his prime coincided with that of Yates and Coleman. Still, though, definitely one of the top physiques to never win one.

I thought he had it against ronnie in 98…you guys can look it up, it’s all over youtube.com, dailymotion.com, etc.

Mass Aesthetics, the type of physique I shoot for.

That’s basically my favorite BB pic ever, something about the expression, clenched fists, maybe the black+white. His symmetry is simply amazing, obviously some opinion but I just can’t believe the absolute mass(Yates) won out all those years(not to say Yates had nothing else going for him but a freaklishly large back sure seemed to help.)

Ronnie looked great, too…but I concur. I’d have to say that Ronnie’s back trumped Flex, but the overall package belonged to Flex IMHO. Levrone looked sick at that show as well.

Flex looks so angry/disappointed after his name is called for the silvers in 98, you could tell the crowd really wanted him to win it as well from the reaction they gave.

Yea Flex was the favorite going into the show. So all the hype was on him.

Flex Magazine said in a recent issue that the show was Flex’s for the taking in 97 but he backed out of the olympia? Anybody around when this happened or remember this? They said something around the lines that he wasn’t prepared to take the spot of Mr. O. lol ?

Bambino: Ya Ronnie’s back is probably what won it for him. He is definitely amazing there and in all the olympia’s he’s won. His 2001 Arnold (I think) and 2003 olympia where probably ronnie’s “best-evers”
