The Bodybuilder Bunker

Age notwithstanding it is my understanding that (according to I think CT or Poliquin) that it takes about an average of 25ish pounds of weight gain to get an inch of growth on the arms. This is because that muscle gain-much like fat loss-is an all over process. Just as we can’t spot reduce we really can’t spot gain.
you definately can spot gain. if that werent the case then there would be no point in having bodypart splits. with such a small muscle as bicep things may be a little different but it seems like youre saying that by doing lat pulldowns you wont make just your lats bigger. im sorry but it doesnt work that way. thats why strongmen and oly lifters have shitty chests, because they dont need to use it so they dont train it, their chest doesnt grow because they can snatch 600 pounds or pull a truck 40 ft. its the same reason you see these guys at the gym with beach bodies and no legs looking like an upsidedown broom, cause they dont train legs.

Live, you are exactly right. Sometimes my fingers work faster than my brain when typing things out.

chea.

what are some good ways i can improve my explosiveness?

I think H4M nails it-- I just gotta bust my ass (err, arms). I’ve already changed up diet and workout to achieve this.

I traditionally have been weak in the presses, but relatively strong in the legs and back. Never did much direct bicep/tricep work, and it shows (or, at least I’m self-concious about it).

Plus, I’ve been focused on weight loss, so I’ve increased stregnth, but no significant hypertrophy.

I’m going to log this little experiment to accompany my Anabolic Diet Recipes.

This thread is a God send.
But wait, dont the best gains for the arms come from training the big exercises? No one needs to train arms directly to get big arms, right? I feel so lost.

Of course you don’t need direct arm work! You know those videos on youtube of the pros doing preacher curls and whatnot? Merely for show, my friend! Get your head in the game, Lonnie! Sheesh!

(Complete and utter sarcasm-for the sarcastically challenged.)

Curls only work if you do them in the squat rack…

You are kidding, right?

No way. I read it on the internets somewhere.

I think my top two are Wheeler and Yates, which is interesting because they had such different training methods.

I think Sergio Oliva would round out my top 3, but I don’t know if I have a true top 3 since there are so many more whose physique and work ethic I appreciate the hell out of.

Great choices all around, and top 3 would be very difficult to say for me. The middle years that Ronnie was holding the crown are absolutely incredible, and as far as BBers that are fun to watch he is unbeatable. Dex also has a very cool physique and I think one that could almost make BBing a tad bit more popular if guys like him get rewarded more.

I’ll be interested to see if Jay makes anyones list… He just doesnt do it for me.

Some things I’ve been doing to incorporate explosiveness into my training are things like speed deads and squats, hang and power cleans, and full barbell snatches. If you can find a good way to put them in your program, I don’t see any reason why Oly-moves wouldn’t help.

As far as current bodybuilders are concerned, I’d have to say:

1.) Johnnie Jackson
2.) Ronnie Coleman (I’d consider him current…)
3.) Branch Warren

I see, so your into the “max muscle on your frame” type of guys. I like all three of those guys too.

Ronnie before the gut was amazing(er) lol he is still amazing GH gut or not.

JJ is probably 4 or 5 on my list especially after this last year in fullerton with Milos.

Branch is just one of those guys you envy because of how much muscle he carries. He looked great at the Arnold.
