I have been training regularly for 25 years…yup 25 years. I spent 5 years working in a gym. I have trained at hardcore bodybuilding gyms of the early-mid 80’s when the only people who worked out were juiced up meat heads. I have trained at snooty exclusive gyms where they have a cocktail bars, beauty salons and group ski vacations for the members. I have trained at a hardcore powerlifter/bodybuilder gym in the mid 90’s where fistfights would break out over who controlled the gym stereo OR where you learn of members getting arrested for things such as armed robbery (to support their roid habit) or for check fraud etc. I have trained at mass markteted gyms like 24 hour fitness where I was told I could not deadlift from the floor.
In all those years I have determined the BEST bodybuilding tool to be the IPOD w/headphones. You can program in your own kickass music so you don’t have to listen to 1. ShakaKhan 80s’, 2. Backstreet Boys 90’s or 3. Britney Spears 00’s. Most importantly…it allows you to avoid those jabber jaws who want to talk for 5 minutes in between sets. There are some guys who walk into the gym and automatically cost me 15 minutes onto my workout because they want to talk. Sure they train hard while they are do their sets but those 5 minute breaks are killers. Now I blare the IPOD with some Black Flag, Iron Maiden, Suicidal Tendencies or Minor Threat. When one of the gabbers tries to talk to me I can either look away and not hear them OR go through a dramatic production to turn off the IPOD, remove the headphones and make them feel as uncomfortable as possible. No joke, headphones, IPOD…they have taken my training to a new level.

Yeah right, when fuckheads get paid to SPAM a forum with guerrilla advertising.
Also, the Ipod is an overpriced piece of shit.
You can buy better quality for less money, and it’s also way cooler to not comsume like a mindless drone!

Being a robot, all I had to do was think it and it showed up on the comp. That’s how us robots Chaka-roll. I feel for you.
Screw the IPOD… I like to BS a little too while I am at the gym… To me the music is distracting… Plus when u got a training partner it doesn’t work out too well. I guess if you want to isolate yourself while at the gym thats cool… I want to love being their while I am working out… I train hardcore but you can’t constantly be doing sets for the 2-3 hours I am there… I always think the dudes using the ipods while lifting must like to socially isolate themselves. They finally got some good music where I train so I am happy…
When I have headphones in, I feel like at any moment someone could run up behind me a slit my throat. Because of this, I don’t listen to music at the gym, while walking around campus, or on the bus.
So far I am still alive.
Plus, I don’t need music to concentrate while I train.
good im not the only oddly overprepared person here. only thing that distracts me is myself, when i start thinkin how fuckin awesome i am, then realize i am tht fuckin awesome
The ipod may be way overrated, but it’s a pleasure to use compared to most other mp3 players. Quality mostly revolves around the bit-rate that you encode at (320 and higher is a world of difference from 128). The ear buds do suck, but in-ears are where it’s at anyway.
