The Beautiful Gain

Hate. I feel like such a jerk hoping all the New Years resolutioners quit, and quit soon. But I do.

Hope everyone’s having a great day - I have a small break, so I’m just popping in.

Deb - Child’s pose is what this woman is doing in the pic.

MIM - you are soooo right, I have a lot to chew on, which is why…

Jim, Cbear, Pwrlft - guys thanks SO much for all the advice. I’m mulling everything over and this weekend I’m going to work on putting together my little regime. I’ll show y’all when I’m done.

And by the way, Cbear, i’m squeezing my glutes as I type - my coworker looks uncomfortable.

Choppie (can I call you that?) - don’t feel bad…you’re just saying what I’m thinking

I’m just impressed you can concentrate enough to type while sitting on someones face.

HAHAHAHAH! Touche.

Today’s training nothing exciting. Added a few reps where I could, added weight where I could. Its high reps so I don’t want to go overboard.

Highlights- I tried a set of DB Arnold Press with 25s. Looked weird, made me laugh. Step ups felt good, really trying to fire the glutes. Actually warmed up with some lunges as per Cbear’s behest. May have helped.

But the superstar of the evening was the pullups - 3,2,3,2,3,2,1,2,3

They’re really improving!

And I did them yesterday too to kill time before spin. I did 3,3,2,2,2,1

Yay!

Bobbi, should I keep doing these sets of 10 AMRAP?

Tomorrow is a big day. I had planned to run and do pilates around 11am and then play an indoor match at 9:30p. Its a lot but not unreasonable. Indoor is only 25min halves and quick subs, so you really only play 12 mins a halves.

nice pullups!
good luck on the match.

“spinning” def does not help your atleady tight hips. And def does not help with you glute weekness if anything it will make it worse.

Not trying to start a war

Just saying lol

Edit: nice work getting extra pullups in

Wah!! Jim! Even if I do it just once a week?

Sigh.

Fine. I’ll take your word for it…

ps. funny that you put spinning in quotations.

here’s my 2 cents:

piggybacking on C-bear’s advice, keep two tool bags, bag 1 is staples (mine are squat, bench, and dl b/c I’m a competitive lifter), bag 2 is accessory or peripheral work. Think of bag 1 as your control group, the test for whether accessory work is effective. Variety keeps your muscles from adapting and you from plateauing.

You’re a soccer player, so my guess is you care about explosive strength, agility, and speed. This is another good reason amongst many to listen to C-bear; lunges are one of those rare movements that if done correctly hit all the lower body components you’re after. They also have the added benefit of sucking really bad and so have a conditioning benefit. Powercleans also do all the things you’re after.

I don’t want to further complicate your life, so I will repeat Jim’s guidance…keep it simple. I’ll also add one, be patient. The gains that mean anything take a lot of time as well as some trial and error as to what your body responds to.

Hope this helps.[/quote]

OK, so I get the big dope of the year award. I just went back and read all of Jim’s posts in his log and have come to this conclusion…I will keep my big mouth shut as long as Jim is giving you advice. Besides being insanely strong, he’s a full time coach and I write flowery prose for a living and lift heavy things for fun. So, please carry on and forgive the intrusion…I’ll continue lurking and stealing as much good information as I can.

We could all us a Jim in our Gym (friday afternoon humour -shoot me)

Pwrlftr - I totally appreciate any advice! Everyone has different experiences, so you can bring in a pov that might help me out. I’m a newb remember, so I still don’t know what I’m doing or how my body responds to stuff. And you, sir, may hold the key.

But yeah, Jim’s the man and helped me realize the chain of problems.

Hip flexors are short, quad dominant, weak glutes. And for bigger lifts, you need better form. Plus too much conditioning. I’m actually putting the program together now and it will go as such:
Doing Wendler’s 3 day raw lifter but the big lifts will be done 5x5. I still get to do the accessory work, and instead of the OHP i’m just going to do upper body work. Haven’t picked what accessory stuff to do yet, but i’m excited!

Anywho, played indoor tonight. My team won 11-7, i didn’t score but I played well. My possession was good and i only had 3 major flubs, due mostly to being a bit lazy. But I am playing more relaxed, which is good for me because i tend to give the ball away too soon. I have to remember to play my game.

First practice is in March and then we go until May, even june - can’t wait. I really think my fitness level is going to blow them away. I hate to brag, but I’m fit as a fiddle! I could be faster though, so I should get to sprinting ASAP. But running in the cold is uncomfortable for me.

Oh! and we’re getting new jerseys.

What’s Mascherano’s number? You soon shall see!

May I suggest. Yeah, I know it’s not Masch’s.

Oh snap! You’re close on the color.

But nope, that ain’t my number.

Here’s the front (not my jersey tho)

Orange and blue - not my fave.

Can I be your cheerleader please? By the way wtg on those pullups. can you start them form the ground? I feel like such a boob when I have to put my little step to help with the initial jump.

Orange and Blue might not be your fav but on a major win you can always pull it off and flash your awesome abs:).

Nooooo you’re supposed to wear the soccer jersey and model it for us

Are you feeling your performance playing getting better with your lifting? Like coordination and such? I noticed just in everyday stuff much better balance and now able to catch and throw a ball etc so I’d love to hear how your playing is going.

nlmain - Lol! too true. its a wonder I can even keep my shirt on! But I don’t score too often - changing that.

deb - Actually yeah! i don’t know if I’m getting better in terms of skills, but I certainly am more agile - which improves my skills. Plus being leaner has made me feel super fit and athletic, and that helps.

I’ll just say that when a player is fatigued, that’s when they make mistakes. So the better I can prevent fatigue, the better and longer I can play. Whats really upped my game this last season was my fitness level. So around the 75th minute when most players are tired, I’m still there giving it. I wish the other girls would work on their shit. But I’m sure when they see me they’ll be inspired.

Plus I’m also quite solid! I did build a pretty solid core. But you never know, its always those buck-teners that get you in the end.

Sorry for the rant, I’m actually getting pretty stoked for my season to start AND for the mother fucking world cup. I’ve been waiting four years, FOUR YEARS, for this shit.

Please, God, PLEASE help get Argentina to the quarters finals. Once we’re there we got it.

Sorry for the rant there. I’ll keep it short.

This workout should be called “slowly turns to shit” Why is that? I pondered on Bobbi’s log that its b/c i might need to eat?

Chinups - 6,5,4,3
DB Incline - 1x8x30,35 2x4x40 < Remember when I said that whole bit about the damsel in distress, this time I was lucky to have one. On set four I couldn’t even get them up and this guy behind me kind of rushed to my aid and spotted me. AND, turns out, he’s a fucking cutie! I’d seen him around.

Can I just make an aside here: Today Mascherano had the pleasure of viewing four hot pieces in one workout.
There was that new big guy that I’ve been seeing around. yum. He’s very high school linebacker. I smile, he smiles, but he won’t approach me. Then there was the trainer, who still turns my head. I dont know what he has. nice ass for one. THEN the spotter, who’s this Italian looking guy and clearly an absolute gentleman. And lastly, like icing on the cake, my old slide Nick. Good god that boy is so incredible. And now he tells me he needs to get BIGGER. I nearly fainted.

Sorry again.

Seated Row - 10x70, 6x75, 8x75
BSS - 3x15x50
Pushups - 3x15xFE
RDL - 3x15x70
DB Row - 14x35, 12x35, 10x35

Did a little jump rope, some side planks, prisoner squats (I love these), then bounced. Not the best workout, but you can’t get them all.

Sounds to me like you had tail on the mind more than iron girl - we all have days when are mind wonders away from what it should be doing. On the other hand those specimens must actually make you happy to hit the gym:)

lol! Quite right. Why is Mascherano always at the gym…

I actually like to show off a little for the boys, so I don’t think my w/o suffers too much

nlmain, I forgot to answer you re: the pullups - I do have to jump up to get on the bar, and honestly, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for me to get a step.

Boys.
what can I say tovarischy?
they are nice.
