I know I’m probably setting myself up for ridicule, but I like to use low weights and lots of reps while just watching the tube, to supplement my workouts. I keep a very heavy small medicine ball and simply play with it — arm raises to the front, one arm supine presses and so on. I also keep one of those large wide bands there and do hundreds of reps.
Although I no longer spar competitively, I’ve notice a speed increase in my punches and blocks in the Do-chang.
So…anyone have any other ideas, things they do, and so. And if you’re going to flame me, a least make it humorous.
Hey everyone has their own thing, no shame in that. How about Foam roller, Foot rolling, and Jump bands? You could choke the bands around just about everything. Check them out over at elite fitness…
I think I’m chasing Colin through all these threads.
Don’t think I’ve ever really seen anyone get flamed here in the old folks home.
I’m constantly squeezing a tennis ball to work on my finger strength. I know they have the grippers but I’m from the old shot putting school. I have a band I use for stretching and proper throwing technique while I’m sitting. Hold it in one hand, around the back and press with the other arm. I also put it around my knee and the other end around my foot and do “calve press”.
Don’t do them any more but I use to do some arm chair Tri extensions. Use to get in a few while I was sitting using the arm rests and raising myself up. Wife made me stop. Said I was breaking the chair.
Do-chang? Tae Kwon or Hapkido? When I took it in Korea, TKD (I sucked, never could get the leg/hip fleibility I needed) the Sah Bum Nim was a great believer in “dynamic tension”. That’s about all I can come up with. Have a good Easter, God bless you, and drop in more often.
fear not, you’re not alone. I’ve done push-ups or sit-ups during commercial breaks during football and basketball games on the tube. It dosn’t seem like much but over the course of a couple hours it adds up.
I put ankle weights around my feet when I’m watching the tube. I lift them up amd down and around in circles. Hoping it will strengthen my ankles for roller blading. I do lots of stretching as well.

Ridicule - shit just look at my pics an see what I opportunities I opened up…
We also have started to use low weights in the Dojo to work on speed.
Thanks for the nice tips, gents! I love variety and those’ll spice it up.
In my family room downstairs, I put a dip/chin/pushup station right next to the TV. Whenever I get up, I have to do at least one chin (hard) or 5 dips. The dips usually win.
