The Abortion Thread

tribulus,

We had less people? We had “illegal” abortions? We had less concentrated urban poverty? Abortion was illegal?

Teen pregnancy birth rates were 96 per 1,000 in 1959 and 49 per 1,000 in 2000.

The U.S. teen abortion rate, after rising through the 1970s and holding fairly constant during the 1980s, then began a steady decline. By 1997, the rate was 28 abortions per 1,000 women 15-19?33% lower than the rate a decade earlier.

If you are suggesting that people should stop having sex you should also ask the wind not to blow and water not to be wet (it’s nature). People were just as promiscuous in the 1950’s it just wasn’t as public.

Beans,

thank you.

and yes I understand that people often think I am in favor of aborting a wide variety of the unborn, the fact is I would just like a solution to a “problem” that is actually a solution, rather than the beginning of another (arguably greater) problem.
BrianHanson wrote:<<< People were just as promiscuous in the 1950’s it just wasn’t as public. >>>
Now I understand why these people have you on ignore. I will never do it though.

Tribulus,

How on earth did what I just typed actually offend you (or anyone)? It is an opinion board correct?

What you don’t understand is that’s what you tacitly saying. You’re trying too hard to split hair and walk fine lines that simple don’t exist.

You know what happens if you try to walk a tightrope between to building but the tightrope isn’t really there? You fall.

Pat,

I’m not trying to split hairs, in an ideal world there would be no abortions, I am a fan of that model. The current model is in place because nobody can come up with a better more efficient one. Just saying “stop abortion” isn’t going to change the situations of the people that get abortions, find a way to give them a better alternative, encourage contraception, encourage vasectomies and tubal ligations (sp?), add a cash incentive (I know it sounds horrible, but it’s an idea) anything that would work would be nice, but actually making it harder to care for and raise a child (cutting programs for low income families for example) is only going to encourage abortions.

Birth Stories / 1421

Page Summary: This birth story came to Abort73 through our online submission form and was received from Australia on December 20, 2011.

I was raped. Then a month or so later, I was feeling sick and having to take time off work, so I went to the doctor. He got me to do a pregnancy test. The two lines came up and I was sitting there waiting for the nurse to come and tell me what that meant. There was a mother sitting there with her son. I tried to make eye contact with her and ask her. I was sitting there trying to breathe and not start bawling, in denial. How could this happen to me?! The nurse or doctor finally came over and stated “You are pregnant.” I started to cry. I had no one with me. I was shaking. The doctor said, “I will be back, to discuss your options.” The room which was full, now cleared. Not one person stayed in that room with me, to console me. I was in a daze. I left. In tears. No one tried to stop me. No one came after me. I was bawling. I am never going back to that doctor - no way, not after the way they gave me no support!

I went to my brother’s house, which was right down the road from me. He wasn’t home. So I drove to my mum and dad’s house. Thank God they were home. I flew into the house and said, “I’m pregnant” and went straight into dad’s arms and he just held me and started crying too. I though how could this happen and went back through what happened in my head. I had blocked out a lot and it took me a few weeks to remember what happened in more detail and to accept how I had gotten pregnant. I thought, “I don’t want a baby without a husband. I can’t do this by myself.” I had counseling and talked to those I trusted. Later Dad talked to me about having a pill that would abort the baby. I thought, “What the hell? He’s supposed to be a Christian and he’s telling me to do this!” I said no! I’ve always thought of a baby as a baby, none of this, “it’s just tissue” business. I hoped for a miscarriage many times. Then after a while a accepted this baby, and did everything for him/her. I accepted that my life would change. The support I got from my parents, my best friend and my church was what I needed. I was hoping for a girl, as I didn’t want a boy as I thought it would look like the guy, if it were a boy. I had an ultrasound and found out the baby was a boy. I was devastated, but after a while I accepted that too. I had a little boy, growing inside me. To feel him wiggle to music and move etc was something you can’t describe. When he was born, I was in love. He was gorgeous. The lessons I learned those first few days were amazing. I learned to stand up for myself more and for the boy. I called him The Boy, as it seemed more right. For it was God’s special gift, so he was God’s and mine. The boy ended up in the NICU, as he didn’t feed in the first 24 hours. I felt sick, I couldn’t eat much. I was so worried he wasn’t going to make it. Many prayers from many people and five days later, he was feeding and his infection was better and we went home. Other problems went on from here, but I won’t go into it.

I had the attitude that this baby was mine and not that guys. He was born for a reason; this all happened for a reason and he will go on to do great things! The way he came around was not nice, but this is the best experience. You gain feelings you never knew you had in you. When they say your heart is living outside your body, it’s true. Your love is so big you can hardly contain it. I wanted to see my child grow up, and not miss out on anything. I wanted to see his milestones. His first steps, hear his first words, etc. I wanted my child to have a father, but this was not so-for now.

Sometimes it’s hard. Sometimes it’s better being by myself as I only have myself to rely on. If a decision needs to be made, I can make it. If bags need to be packed for going away etc, it’s only up to me to pack. If something gets left behind, there is no fight with a partner to say, “I thought you packed that.” I still hope God will send a Father for my boy and a husband for me though, so we can share the joy and have more children.

Now I wonder how dad feels as he wanted me to take that pill, as he loves my son to bits and can’t wait to spend time with him and teach him “boy stuff.” I’m so glad watching my precious boy grow up. He’s such a great boy and he’s growing up in a loving, godly environment.

Thank you God for your gift of life!

CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Man rips away abortion images, assaults pro-life witness
by Kathleen Gilbert Wed Jun 27, 2012

BREMERTON, Washington, June 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A camera captured a dramatic scene last month when an infuriated man stormed up cursing to a pro-life protester holding images of an aborted child by the roadside, tore the signs out of his hands and threw them away before assaulting him in an apparent attempt to destroy video evidence.

(WARNING: FOUL LANGUAGE VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0SdRfVVlz8

The conflict began when Kenrick Bradley approached Anti-Choice Project co-founder Andrew St.Hilaire during a protest in front of Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington, on May 2, 2012. Bradley complained that the images were traumatizing to his girlfriend, who had apparently miscarried.

“My girl lost her f****** baby, and we’re driving past this s*** and she has to see this s***,” said Bradley. “I’m very sorry about that that,” said St. Hilaire. “You guys are standing out here with f****** cameras like this s***'s OK?” Bradley continued.

Bradley eventually grabs the large images, which showed the tiny body parts of children lost to abortion, and threw them over a fence. He later returns to St. Hilaire, who is already on the phone with police and grabs at his camera as a second camera across the street captures the action.

“Hi, I’m being assaulted. I’m being assaulted!” St. Hilaire says into the phone as the struggle ensues.

The Anti-Choice Project reports that Bradley pled guilty on May 23 to charges of malicious mischief, and was ordered to pay $388 for damages to equipment as well as court fees.

"Like many Americans, Mr. Bradley finds the sight of abortion intolerable. But this only raises the question: If abortion is too terrible to look at, why are we tolerating it?" the group asked on its blog.

How can you claim there’s nothing wrong with abortion, but then claim in an ideal world there would be none? If you support abortion, in your ideal world, there should abortion clinics connected to gas stations.

Basically, you admit it’s wrong, you know it’s murder, but you don’t care because sometimes people paint themselves into corners.

The contraception thing is stupid. Never has contraception been more available and cheap than it is now, and the amount of abortions hasn’t changed one iota. If contraception was the answer, we should see the number drop, but we don’t 1.2 million per year. Glad your willing to wear those deaths on your conscience, because I am not.

I’m beginning to think you are unable to absorb and process new information.

You’ve been told before that this is untrue and yet you still peddle this crap.

Pat,

“How can you claim there’s nothing wrong with abortion, but then claim in an ideal world there would be none? If you support abortion, in your ideal world, there should abortion clinics connected to gas stations.”

I claim this the same way I think about Country Music, people can choose to listen to it all they want, but in an ideal world it would not exist. With that in mind, and me saying “I support the right of people to listen to country music” it certainly does not logically follow that I would want ALL the stations to be country music stations (you can replace country music stations with social conservatives and you still get the same answer).

And abortion rates have been dropping for over 30 years, so there is that.

My conscience is clear (at least with regards to this), and it will remain so.

Population in 1959 was significantly smaller than current numbers. I have no idea how they generated their numbers. In addition the lives lost through these “low numbers of abortion” are still innocent children.

Please address the reason why there are 1.2 million abortions per year in America.

Tribulus, Kneedragger,

You guys should get together with the rest of the Right to Lifers and devise a plan to stop abortions that doesn’t involve calling scared 19 year old girls “Whore” and “murderer!” when they go in to a Planned Parenthood center. If you came up with a compassionate and viable way of doing things, and redirected some of your vast institutional wealth at making it a reality you might actually stop some abortions.

Don’t forget Trib, liberals believe abortion is no different than choosing chocolate or vanilla ice cream.

Huh?

My point was the number of abortions is on the decline. You should be happy.

Thanks for you help Brian, but I already pray and protest in front of PP. Any other ideas to stop the slaughter of innocent children? I know universal health care will never work. Never has in the history of the world.

Not only are the number of abortions decreasing, they are decreasing at a pretty steady rate.
