The 225 Military Press Quest

This thread is always in my updates in my hub. A painful reminder of how horrible my overhead has gotten since I originally posted in this thread.

my bench press is somewhere in the low 500’s and my overhead press is around 340. whenever my overhead press goes up, my bench does as well. i’m hoping to get my overhead press up to 400 and bench close to 600 before i’m too old:)

MP is 210 BP is 345 so 61%

Good to see people posting their percentages. Obviously you would need hundreds of people in order to make any kind of accurate determination but right now it seems like most of us have a MP that is 55-65% of our bench.

I’m in for the fun. SOHP’d 205 last night (felt like I was going to black out halfway up) so that was clearly a max.

My bench is 285/290, puts me around 70%…got curious about other’s percentage at that point too.

actual PRs: MP=225, Bench=365, 62%

estimated maxes: MP=245, Bench=412, 59%

I’m not surprised I’m on the lower end here for MP, I’ve been lazy with it.

Im in there like swimwear my best is 135

215x1 today

225x1 yesterday over a week earlier than expected

Does anyone else only have a tiny difference between their strict press and push press? There’s only a 20lb difference for me. My best guess as to why at this point is lack of practice on push presses. The other thought is weak triceps (my sticking point on bench is midpoint).

Back when I was doing push presses for a little while I got up to 185x2. I got strict press up to 185x2 shortly after, so I probably just really sucked at push press. I think people fail to factor in the core and upper back strength/tightness that is needed to hold a weight overhead tha is higher than you can strict press.

I would guess this is completely a technique issue, unless you entirely neglect leg training…lol. Without seeing a video of your form though, it’s impossible to tell you what it is. A few tweaks in your technique though, I would venture to guess you’d see a steep climb in your numbers pretty fast.

No, I don’t even have one

My best press is 205, and my best in-competition bench is 264, for a 77% rate.

…my bench sucks.

you’re almost there man

What about the military press with a reverse grip…how much you can lift compared to your regular overhead press
