id love to be in it, but only just started doing a powerlifting routine (5/3/1) and my max for military is 60kg ( 120lbs) yeah i know its weak as piss… anyway i know its off topic but does anyone ever get rotator cuff pain from doing standing military presses?

i always do sets of inner rotator cuff, outer rotator cuff at a very light weight 1.25kg just to strengthen the ligaments i believe that it is ( correct me if i am wrong) and it got rid of it for bench but for some reason it hits again when i do military. Could it be because i am pushing the bar to far infront of me when i push up? sorry that its off topic and all that jazz just thought that this would be a decent place to ask… thanks[/quote]

My military press max is about 120 too. No big deal, we’ll be at 225 before everybody else!

My shoulders used to be all screwed up too. Search for diesel crew shoulder rehab. It’s magic. Clear up your situation with that and then check this out. Push-Ups, Face Pulls, and Shrugs

thanks mate will check out the diesel crew shoulder rehab… And in regards to that article i was going through elitefts things and i stumbled upon a video of a physiotherapist with an elitefts powerlifter testing his should rotation ( meant to be at 180degrees, his was at 40 maybe 50) and the physio gave him a few excersies to do and ive just started doing them as well so might take a bit of time to take effect i would imagine - but in saying that also i have 180degrees of flexability so i dont really believe that that is the issue… i think my year of doing a suicide grip bench press did damage ( my pre powerlifting bench style, i know im a dickhead) but thanks for the help! much appreciated

Cleaned and strictly failed at 210 today, testing out. Going to run the Juggernaut bitch to get some solid volume on all my lifts since I am not competing in a meet anytime soon. Well, I am doing a bench only contest on the 4th, which I may end up doing raw. After that no competing for awhile due to traveling all over Asia kicking ass as a Marine.

Hit 205x3 and 210x1 a couple of days ago vids in my log if it behooves anyone…

Why not, I’ll join the quest, would probably be good for my bench anyway. Haven’t done much OHPing lately, but did 60 kg (132 lbs) x 7 on monday. Also I’ve done 11 reps with 42,5 kg (93 lbs) DBs six months ago, but that’s seated.

I did 180 x 5 with a rep in the tank. Next week is my 5/3/1 week and I am going to see If I can get at least 205 lbs.

210 for 1 today, with a little wobble in my back/hips/core somewhere. Was overfocused on my knees.

The shoulder strength is more than there, the core/stability will come, perhaps next week.

Did 200 x 2 tonight. Pretty psyched. No leg drive either.

That’s a great challenge and congratulations to those that have already made it! My 2011 goal is to hit 200, currently at 170, anything past that in 2011 is gravy. Maybe I undershot what I could achieve this year; I was just trying to keep the goals realistic for me.

For those that lift in a commercial gym, how many other people do you actually see do OHP’s in the gym? I go in the morning and I’ve seen one other guy do Push Presses once and a while but that’s it. Do people just not like this exercise? I probably like it even more than Bench Presses. Just something about standing there and lifting a ton of weight over your head.

I’ve never seen anyone doing standing overhead press, across 4 different commercial gyms, and hadn’t done em myself until a couple weeks ago. To be honest, I’ve been a pretty damn lazy lifter, gettin better, but I still kinda am heh.

I will join this military press quest. Last week I did 150 x 6.

For those of you who can press heavier weights: do you concentrate on keeping your back straight or do you find a sweet spot with backward arch and keep it locked there?

My new 1RM is 125. I missed 130 twice. It flies up to about forehead level and then just stops.

210x2 vids in my log if anyone wants to check it out

Definitely sweet spot with the arch. Just focus on squeezing the whole of my upper back and lats which will naturally arch your back.

One thing that seems to be helping me is performing sets of top-half overhead presses on my shoulder day.

agreed also using your lats as a shelf is a great tool for me.

Thanks, Jaynick.

Link doesn’t work, Matty.

^ sorry

I could have just gone to your log. Duh.

Oh hell yes. Learning to use my lats to overhead press was the easiest 20lb PR ever.
