The 225 Military Press Quest

My best is 135x10, and 140x7 or 8. No idea where I’m at, but I suppose I’ll go for it. Body weight as of Saturday morning was 192.

Just got new PR today of 90kgx1 (198lb)

165x4

Agreed

I’ve actually gotten 205 for 5 but haven’t done 225.

That really fits your t-shirt then

Ouch. I have tried and failed at 225. I don’t know if it’s a mental barrier or a physical sticking point.

Could be that you just suck at singles. Do heavy singles/doubles/triples and find out?

The consensus is that people go from chin level? I have always made sure i touch my clavicle or slightly below on my upper chest. I’m gonna switch up my technique and go for 225 by the end of summer

Bar should be in contact with your body when you initiate the lift. Anything else is silly.

the chin is aslo part of the body

Im in. my best is 185x3 with leg drive.I must try pressing from chin level. Sometimes I get a niggly shoulder pain when doing them from my upper chest/clavicle I must not be flexible enough.

Lol that’s true. Torso then fuckers.

Anyone ever consider/tried starting the press from the finished, locked out position so you get the benefit of the eccentric? Not for max attempts but maybe as a way to get more reps on sub-maximal weights? I find the first dead-stop rep is what drains me the most. Would unracking it from that position be feasible? Should I try it? Is this a dumb question?

You could just jerk it up and THEN press it instead of unracking it like an overhead squat…

At a BW of 155, I can do 165x1. From the clavicle and no leg drive/jerk.
Is there a deadline for these?

but that is the rep that depending of how hard it is tells you if you are ready or not for the weight

I’m in. I’m gaining mad strength in the past 3 months so i see this as attainable in the next month or 2 max. I’m weighing from 155-160 tops. strict standing press at 185 just hit it today. feels good to be moving up in the world lol. off topic but im getting pretty close to some other goals I’m closing in on 275 on bench im at 255 now(pr last week). just hit 335 on deads thats a pr. at 295 on squats yesterday(pr) looking to hit 315. sorry I’m done lol had to say how much i love lifting heavier weight.
