“If you ain’t the lead dog, the scenery never changes.” Always loved that quote by ole Lewis. Thanks for the welcome back. My ass kicking training is a little slow at the moment but improving daily.
No training today, minor emergency in the family. Got an early call from a sister-in-law saying she and my brother were taking my mother to the emergency room. Wife and I went racing to the hospital. Two brothers already there. Then the other 3 brothers, all the sister-in-laws, many, many of my nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews plus spouses show up. There’s been a flu bug going round, my mother caught it and then developed bronchitis and was throwing up and couldn’t keep anything down. Several of my nieces are nurses and they went with her into triage and to get her blood work, blood pressure, etc. She was put in a room waiting for a doctor to see her and my wife and the five sister-in-laws went with her. We men were relegated to the waiting room. At one point the admitting nurse yelled out, “Is there any one here not with the Love family?” They gave her an IV to replace fluids with anti-nausea medicine in it. After many hours she was released with several prescriptions and told to stay in bed. We set up a schedule to stay at the house so there’d be someone with her around the clock to watch her and cook for her, if she’ll let them. Went by her house tonight and she was doing good. We sat and watched Grimm with her and then put on her favorite Johann Strauss CD.
Back to the gym tomorrow.
Proud to have you as a honorary family member. Hope you can hold your liquor. Can’t wait till you meet big brother Remi. As for the well being of the elderly. Sister-in laws are American, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, and Panamanian. My wife’s a Filipina. All raised to take care of the elderly. Mama’s German. Spent her teen years surviving WWII and the fire bombing we put on her home town. End of the war a dashing young US GI, Papa, with the “strangest accent and most flirting manner” (hey, he’s a Cajun) swept her off her feet (wore her down). The result, us six boys. After serving in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam Papa was taken early. Fucking Agent Orange. We take care for Mama.
Sorry to run on so much about family.
Harry, the pride and honor is all mine. I’m gonna need you to whack me with one of your King Arthur swords to make it official…
It is awesome and amazing that your Papa served in 3 wars spanning 3 decades! And so disgustingly ridiculous that he gets taken down by Agent Orange. Damned idiot string pullers and their decisions. Insidious poisons aside, it sounds like there’s a pretty strong longevity gene in your clan, so that’s certainly auspicious.
I am Chinese, so the colorfulness of the Love rainbow will not be diluted by my addition. Technically, I’m fresh off the boat, but in 1969, so maybe “stale” off the boat? I am told that the only accent I have is New Yawk, and since I lived there for 30 odd years it makes sense.
Best family story I have is performing a very gentle version of the Heimlich maneuver on my Grandfather (long since passed) at his 100th birthday dinner. A thumb-sized lobster chunk popped out -I couldn’t believe how well it worked. It was a packed, very noisy restaurant, and I was the only one who noticed him choking; one of the few things I feel like I’ve earned a pat on the back for.
Thanks Crippler.
Punnyguy, if memory serves me No. 3 brother and his wife were married in Hong Kong around 1972. They’re still going strong. I’ve often wondered where westerners get the stereotype of the docile, obedient Asian wife. Not in this family.
Ok, what we’re here for.
Started of trying some db overhead presses. Right, 40,45,50x10 Left, massive pinky 5 lbers again. Can’t quit get straight up yet. Really tried and really brought the pain. hoping I’m at least making some progress. Go back to the doctor next week and they measure the angle.
Something I can do a little
bench
135wu
185x10
225x7,6,6
cable standing flyes (left even with chest)
20,30,40x10
Tried dips again. Think I dropped down about 3.5" this time
3x a bunch
That’s it. Went and ran a mile. I’ve dropped down to 220. Really haven’t been eating enough and I know I’ve lose some mass the way my shirts and pants fit.
Stiff. Stretching exercises are different than normal. When I get to my farthest stretch it hurts, not tightness, pain. Still a hold over from the operation (I hope).
Pool today
W/U
2 x 50m crawl
2 x 50m breast stroke
1 x 500m crawl
left the pool and did a mile run an 1mile walk.
Got home, had about 1.5lb salmon steak, baked potato and salad for lunch.
If I’m a model it’ll have to be fully clothed. Way to many scars. My wife is telling me to stay this way but I still want to throw and compete and I need to be strong for that and the extra weight helps.
I know all ya’ll men read the story on the opening home page!
Had a follow up appointment with the doctor. Says my mobility’s doing great for 3 being months post surgery. Gave me a pack of 6 bands, each increasing in difficulty. Info sheet with several exercises on using the bands. Most of them hit the middle and posterior delt. Use each band twice a day for two weeks then go on to the next one. Was emphatic I not let up on the stretching cause what movement I have at 6 mix postoperative is all I’m going to get.
