By the looks of your butthurt responses, I would say that you went through a heavy dose of indoctrination.

That’s quite an honor to sign a Bronze Star citation, When you handed it over to your soldier did you say," Here you go son, he’s your shinny star for killing all those innocent kids, you should be so proud."

Yeah, I wrote the citations and signed them before they went up the Chain of Command for approval.

And my guys didn’t kill any kids or innocent civilians. They had discipline.

I never disagreed with corporations making a profit off the war. I don’t agree we are there SO corporation make money.

I’m sure your guys have a high level of discipline, you aren’t just handed a Bronze Star. You just missed the point as to why I said that.

I’m a vet and give a fuck less that cowards try to judge me. Anything I have done I live with each day and night.
So talk your trash because that’s all you’re good for. Just talk.

I COMPLETELY CONCUR SIR! COULDN’T HAVE BEEN SAID ANY BETTER!

Orion, whether trolling or not, you could show some of that respect you elude to in your ‘about me’ quote and STFU.

As a former Marine Sergeant I didn’t always agree with my orders, I simply followed them the same way my troops followed me. That’s what we do. Just ask Teddy R. While I agree with several of your points (keep the Christianity out of this, as Chiristians have demonstrated a blood-lust for hundreds of years: Spanish Inquisition anyone, The Crusades, etc.) and I never appreciated feeling like the EGA on my chest was really a ‘world police badge’, NONE of that matters because discipline is key within the military and that means following your orders. Nothing more, nothing less.

So YES those who have fallen, served or still actively serve deserve our (Americans) respect. BTW, I’ve been to too many other countries for you to argue about our ‘freedoms’ with me. If you have no respect for those who serve in your own country, fine, I’m sure they care. Leave our opinions to us and feel free to keep yours to yourself. An old saying comes to mind: If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything.

First in what countries have you been? If I compare Austria to Somalia and Cambodia we are doing fine too.

Since you asked: Somalia, Singapore, British Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Guam- I know its an American province, but still, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kuwait, and Australia. To name a few.

Then, the “we just follow orders” approach does not really fly. I am aware that soldiers do that and that that is how it should be, a politically active military would be worse in most cases.

Whether you think it flies or not is irrelevant, if you were actually aware as you claim. For the record, I’m not a soldier. I’m a former Marine. If you’re unaware of the difference, I suggest you do some research on the Battle of Belleau Wood. That one, in particular, might hit a little close to your home.

But, you chose to join an army that has not “defended Americas freedom” for over 60 years now and if you join an organization that is used to spread an aggressive imperialist/mercantlist agenda you are responsible for that decision.

See above.

Of course you are completely free to do that, but to expect respect?

Why?

And for your last statement…I don’t “expect” respect. I EARNED it. Like my forefathers, and my brothers and sisters before me. By sacrificing a portion of my life for something greater than myself. By serving others. And more importantly, by standing up for something I believe in.

What have you done?

The Waffen SS did sacrifice for “something greater than themselves”.

Some of them significantly more than you.

Do they deserve respect?

It seems to me that something greater than yourself fulfills two functions:

A) You avoid responsibility for your own actions and

B) You do not have to make to much decisions because “something bigger than yourself” is making them for you.

In real life men who are by no means bigger than you control you using slogans like serving bigger than yourself, matter what “that” is.

BTW the whole premise of my posts is that the US military is not that “big” to with.

For someone trying to preach (as if you’re an educated individual) you might trying to learn how to spell, form your sentences with something like a proper syntax, etc.

The decision I made, was to become a US Marine.

Let’s see what you have to say about this…

Our European arrogance in alphabetical order.

The American Cemetery at Aisne-Marne , France . A total of 2289 of our military dead.

  1. The American Cemetery at Ardennes , Belgium . A total of 5329 of our dead.

  2. The American Cemetery at Brittany, France . A total of 4410 of our military dead.

  3. Brookwood , England American Cemetery. A total of 468 of our dead.

  4. Cambridge , England . 3812 of our military dead.

  5. Epinal , France American Cemetery. A total of 5525 of our Military dead.

  6. Flanders Field , Belgium . A total of 368 of our military.

  7. Florence , Italy . A total of 4402 of our military dead.

  8. Henri-Chapelle , Belgium . A total of 7992 of our military dead.

  9. Lorraine , France . A total of 10,489 of our military dead.

  10. Luxembourg , Luxembourg . A total of 5076 of our military dead.

  11. Meuse-Argonne. A total of 14246 of our military dead.

  12. Netherlands , Netherlands . A total of 8301 of our military dead.

  13. Normandy , France . A total of 9387 of our military dead.

  14. Oise-Aisne , France . A total of 6012 of our military dead.

  15. Rhone , France . A total of 861 of our military dead.

  16. Sicily , Italy . A total of 7861 of our military dead.

  17. Somme , France . A total of 1844 of our military dead.

  18. St. Mihiel , France . A total of 4153 of our military dead.

  19. Suresnes , France . a total of 1541 of our military dead.

And we now have to watch a Nobel peace prize winning American elected leader who apologizes to Europe and the Middle East that our country is “arrogant”!

Arrogant? Apologize-My ***! Never! Remind those of our sacrifice and don’t confuse arrogance with leadership.

If I added correctly the count is 104,366 deaths.

HOW MANY FRENCH, DUTCH, ITALIANS, BELGIANS AND BRITS ARE BURIED ON OUR SOIL, DEFENDING US AGAINST OUR ENEMIES??

WE DON’T ASK FOR PRAISE … BUT WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE!!

I apologize for not being computer saavy enough to post the pics that accompany these references. For anyone interested, including the omnipotent Orion, PM me and I’ll forward the copy I have to the email account provided.

NOW, how about (days later) we get this thread back to where its supposed to be?

As for Orion…a bulldog doesn’t really care when a chihuahua growls at him does he?
[/quote]

Circular reasoning much?

So the US army is big because a lot of people died in its service and therefore it is worth dying for it.

You do not even make an argument, you just post nonsense, you rugged bulldog you.

But, after all, thinking independently was probably not part of your training.

You only know how to bark.

Just imagine someone came up to them and told them this:

Dude, we both know killing and stealing is wrong but I have a piece of magic cloth that makes it all ok.

No really, as long as you wear it and do as I say you are not responsible for even your worst actions .

Everyone would immediately think that person was insane.

Are these similar? They would look great on my uniform.

I’m really surprised this thread hasn’t been moved to PWI. Thanking U.S. veterans on Veteran’s day was obviously a highly political…and “world” issue.

and this one…

You could easily get star stickers for spelling words correctly in grade school, however, it is not so easy to obtain many of the metals that are given out in the military.

Some, I will admit, you get just for being in at a certain time. I got a ribbon to put on my dress blues and whites just for being in the military while “at war”.

Others take a lot of studying, practice and exceptional performance in many different areas of expertise.

Go get yourself a chest full of those ribbons and medals (maybe go for one of each available) and see if it was as easy as it was to get those star stickers in grade school.

Really, it’s the only way to find out for sure.

I did not mean to belittle the things you need to do to get one of the more important medals, but you can do all the right things in all the wrong places, for all the wrong reasons.

I find the whole idea of “medals” highly awkward though.

You’re correct. It was part of my raising.

I can’t account on the size of the US Army, nor do I care. (Again, Marine NOT soldier. You having a hard time understanding that?) You’d have to ask our Congress. Good luck in getting a response.

I have no need to argue with you, but a sensible debate is always refreshing.

That ‘nonsense’ you describe, just illustrates how weak some of your points are. An ideal or a loved one are some examples of items worth dying for. I would’nt think that many of those soldiers, sailors or Marines dies for their branch of service. More like: before the enemy destroys our allies and makes an attempt to come onto our soil, where our children play, we’ll go to the aid of our allies and help them destroy our common enemy.

I’m sure those nations were so devastated by our being there and bombing the crap out of them, that we forced them to bury our dead. It had absolutely nothing to do with the respect those soldiers, sailors and Marines earned.

Your profile claims you to be 35 years of age, yet you’re behaving more like one of our 4 yr olds not getting their way in the sandbox.

And just so you know, I don’t bark. And along those lines, I don’t make threats either.
