Targeting the Teardrop

Any suggestions?

My outer sweep is starting to dominate, and i’d like to even out my development. Thanks for any help

Here’s Thib’s take on targeting different parts of the quads.

It does look like he’s pitching a tent.

It’s citizen steel, he’s super strong and super awesome. But you are right, although the full size image looks a little different.

And the article is pretty good, i’ll incorporate some bulgarian split squats into my next routine. Thanks man

Hi mate, I had a similar thing this year where I needed to build up the “tear-drop” - for me it was because of recovery from ACL reconstruction and I need to get my patella tracking correctly again.

I had two therapists with two schools of thought… the first said that foot positioning was key to bringing the little bugger out (his anatomical name is vastus medialis, or sometimes known as vastus medialis oblique due to the angle the muscle fibres run). In practice this was leg pressing with toes pointing out, quad extensions with toes pointing out etc.

The other guy said that the VMO only really fires properly in the final couple of inches of the movement as its main role is in the stabilisation of the knee at full extension. This makes sense - if you extend your knee and press on the tear-drop, it only really kicks in fully in the last inch or so of movement. To that end he had me doing leg press and leg extension but only on the last quarter of the movement, focusing on the negative.

I tried both and found the first option flared up my cartilage after a bit, while the second option worked and didn’t give me any pain. My tear-drop is still very much a work in progress but just my experience on it.
