How important is it to target the sternocleidomasteoid in order to get a neck like the one on the far right?
I do do side neck curls with a neck harness adjusted to the side but I dont really feel it in that muscle. Of course I do flexion with a towel covering a heavy dumbbell and extension with the harness.
Im wondering if i should give up the side neck curls or not?
What I have been doing IS working as I went from a 15.5" neck to a 16.5" in a month but maybe the side curls are unneccessary
I’m just fucking around. I have no clue why you posted pictures of guys from the MTV show or the piture of the guy with a fat crease in his neck.
And for some info. If you have a naturally thin neck, which it appears you do considering your calves are bigger than your neck, you may be shit out of luck getting a 19" neck until your arms and calves are pushing 20". I’d assume one would have to add close to 40 lean pounds to add that much lean size to one’s neck.
Don’t think about training your neck until you’re up to a respectable level on your deadlift and squat. If you have to ask how much weight that is then you’re probably not there yet.
If you still feel like you have to train your neck then the wrestlers’ bridge is the way to go. Those neck harnesses can be downright dangerous.
Surely the ginger guy on the far right is just fat?
The guy on the far right suffers from ‘blowjay’ neck. Unfortunately, he swallowed all the loads, causing him to gain unfunctional body mass, thus exacerbating his situation.

My necks really not that thin anymore since i started training it, tho. Judge for yourself. This will be my before picture. I’m almost as wide across as my face now and MUCH stronger. For extension (back of neck) for example i went from 20 lbs for 10 reps to 50 for 8 from last month to today.
Once I finish my cut to 5% bf I’m gonna kill it and get a 19".
Just wanted to know how i should best be feeling the side neck curl

I would think you will be better off if you dvelop all 'round size & strength. Muscular imbalance in the neck area does not sound like a good thing. Besides you seem to have a successful formula there, so why mess with it?
BTW may neck got to 19.5" with no direct work (trouble was my waist was 46")

Training the SCM directly is a bad idea. Why? Because in most of the population (certainly those that have upper crossed syndrome/forward head carriage), the SCM is tight and over-facilitated already and the deep neck flexors are weak.
Work on good posture instead.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. Boxers and MMA fighters do shitloads of neck training. Wrestlers, too.

I dont know if you noticed but BBB has a stinking katana in his avatar. I wouldn’t mess with him unless you wanna get dropped. Plus, he really knows his crap. I really do not believe that he would go off spouting crap he didn’t know about.

You think your 16.5" neck isn’t thin and youre telling others that they don’t know what theyre talking about? Some people (read: everyone) would laugh at that.
