So I have a question. My waist measurement went down by tape measure 1.5 inches in the last 2 weeks. However, I still can pinch the same amount of fat. Have I just not lost fat - maybe my stomach has less food in it so I am less bloated? How can this happen?
id say pinching is subjective. each pinch can draw different amounts of skin from surrounding areas and distort the consistency.
make sure you are measuring yourself 1st thing in the morning, before food, no clothes, and with mid section relaxed.
any other way can lead to these inconsistencies.
also it may just be that you are pinching skin, not necessarily fat.
Sarah please don’t take this the wrong way but from seeing your posts here you are overanalzying this stuff WAY too much. Things will work out for you if you are on a positive course with a consistently good diet and exercise program but only if you can stop sweating the small details.
You know, you really can get overly worked up trying to track BF. I thought I had solved the problem by buying a top of the line Tanita scale, with its built in bodyfat tester, complete with different settings for age, height and build type. Even with all that, the damn thing can jump up and down 1-2% from day to day, just based apparently on your hydration. I’ve had weeks where I lost a couple pounds, gained muscular size, lost a half inch on my waist, and the damn Tanita BF didn’t budge.
Just get stronger, harder, and look in the mirror. Doc

Just like the other poster said, measure yourself first thing in the morning. Also don’t check your bodyfat more than once a week.
It’s possible from your post that you lost visceral fat and that, for you, skinfold fat will go away later. As long as you’re making any kind of progress: losing weight, bodyfat, your lifts are going up, your tape measurements are changing, then you’re on the right track. Your body won’t change all at once.
