I went to Crossfit. Some of the guys have been doing it, and honestly I need friends that are not connected to Dallas. All of my local friends are our friends. I need some of my own friends. Also according to SAMA CF girls are hot.
The workout was
100 Push Ups
100 Sit Ups
100 BW squats
We could split them up into whatever set/rep scheme we wanted. I went with sets of 10, I should have gone higher, but hey live and learn. Also, since I can’t do 10 normal push ups, much less 100, I did them using the rings. Fucking awesome. I have to acquire a set of my own.
I got done in like 12 min, so I beat everyone there except for the guy I went with. He was the only real competition though, and he was done in 6 min!
Then we threw a non bounceable medicine ball at the floor. Paired up we had to do 100 throws. I was paired up with Noah (boy I went with, hot but has a GF) and he had to win. It was surprisingly hard, and I loved it.
It was a good workout, and once I brush up my social skills I think I’ll make friends. So, I’ll go Saturdays when I can.
Sat
prt2 - BJJ
Another brain fart, which is why I’m catching up. Man, I’m getting old.
Sunday
Prt 1 No Gi BJJ
Half Guard Passes
I keep getting rolled when I actually try the pass. Learning new details was nice, getting them into my brain turns out not to be so easy.
Prt 2 Gi BJJ
Butterfly Guard sweeps
I rolled with a newb girl after and still had trouble finishing from mount. I managed to stay on top, but not finish. (Giggle away)
Monday
BJJ
Sweep Single
I now understand how to shoot a little better, I’m still a newb with takedowns.
Escapes from North/South
It felt awesome, I got Brazilian legs to work on instinct. It’s never gone that smoothly before.
Then a sweep if they lean to far forward in north/south
Tuesday
No Gi
Guard Open with their hand pinned behind their back.
The beatdown to an Americana or Kimura depending on his hand postion.
There was some good rolling over those classes, and some bad mistakes too. Overall I need to work on the half guard pass while rolling, finishing in general and drill and open until I can do it in my sleep.

This is what I meant by triangle escape. Isn’t the Brazilian accent fun?

Oh, cool! The Brazilian accent is kind of sexy, actually.
That’s a LOT to think about doing in a split second. No wonder you need to practice so much - I would think that it needs to become second nature, otherwise by the time you do think about it, it’s too late to make it work.
That crossfit workout sounds like it was brutal and fun!

Now that is the reason I can’t do martial arts- there are very few people I would be happy to tumble with. Give me a long stick to bash someone with instead.
Where’s print? There’s a joke there somewhere about long sticks.
Well, after a little while the people you ‘tumble’ with everyday become your friends. At first it’s odd, but you get used to it. For me first month of class I only drilled with one guy. He was really important to making me comfortable. While I realize my posts scream insecure girl, that’s not who I am in class for the most part.
This is a space I let myself be vunerable in. In class I’m a senior member, our instructor is a purple belt, so only one belt higher than me (though way way better than one belt better), so I’m often paired with new people to help make them comfortable. I guess I don’t really talk about that part here. BJJ is still a pretty small sport, so you get to spend a lot of time cultivating your training partners.
You have to find a balance between helping people and learning things. I think I lost my point, anyway all those words boil down to - you get used to it.

I hate front squats too – ow collarbones! The closest thing to a solution I’ve found is wearing a sweatshirt. It’s one of those things that I’d imagine is much easier if you have substantial delts.
The day after front squat attempts I always forget then wonder why my shoulders hurt so much. I don’t like the oly hold, so I usually cross my hands to hold the bar, either way it’s really hard to keep the bar in place, not choke myself and squat all at the same time. I actually have a lot of trouble judging depth with front squats. Can one do front squat box squats? I feel like I know so much, but still so little. What are box squats even for? Just to let you know how low your ass is going?

I did kung fu for a bit when I was about 10-11…I really liked it but my mom pulled me out due to her schedule and money issues…its something I still think about though…I have no idea how I would fit it into my schedule, but I’d like to try it out again one day!
Oh MiM, honestly Kung Fu is bullshit for the most part. In it’s purest form, of course it’s a great and effective MA, what one learns at your average karate class is a lot like taking an aerobics class at the gym. It’s great for kids in the sense of learning team work and discipline, also to get them moving. If you’re going to take up an MA now and want to use it to actually deal with other people, take BJJ or Judo. I actually think you should take judo, and stick your babies in it too. You’d be awesome at throwing people around. It’s also great for kids because it teaches a lot of injury prevention, how to fall properly, how to deal with impact, balance and body awareness. There are no submissions for kids for the most part, so you don’t have to deal with going to far and breakng baby bones. Most schools give you a free class or two, you guys should so try it!
^Thanks for that! Been wanting to get my oldest into some form of MA…and as for me, it would just be for fun, but thats what lifting is…
would rather pay for the kid to go to have something to focus on other than school and playing outside…plus he’s always walking around like the Karate kid ever since we saw the movie
Box squats. I’m sure people (like Kimba) use them to gauge depth. When I do them, I actually sit all the way down, relax the muscles, and then have to re-engage the muscles to push up. It feels different to me than just squatting. I guess because you have to tighten and start the muscle contraction in the squat position rather than the standing one.

That’s my main problem at the moment. I know a lot of moves, but not a lot of moves are second nature. In order for them to actually work, they have to be second nature. If I think about the angle of my arm after it’s already locked down it’s too late, esp since I can’t strong arm out of stuff.

That actually sound really helpful to what I want to do.
I’d like to be able to stand up with a 165lbs person in high guard/triangle; standing up if I’m the top guy in the picture. It involves sitting up into good posture, hopping your feet up into the bottom of an ATG squat position, then standing. So, you’re starting from a relaxed at the bottom of the squat position. So, I’ll play with it next time.

Which is why they say ‘practice makes perfect’, I guess!
Thursday in BJJ, we worked on passing the de la heva guard. I’ll find a pic and post it later. It’s a guard that happens when you stand to pass, but I don’t usually stand to pass. I like to stay tight. I also ended up working with a guy who had only been to one other class, and the guard and the pass is pretty advanced, so it was slow going. I don’t like trying to have to teach something I don’t know well myself.
The first pass involved pressing in to clear the hook, and grabbing the lapels. Then we stepped back to clear the other leg and pulled the guy under us to start the knee drive pass. It seemed smooth while drilling, but I tried it while rolling, and ended up in his open guard.
The second pass was a forward roll to a toe hold. I remember the first time I saw this was a while ago and when I tried it, I just face planted. This time it went smoother, but as a blue belt I’m not even allowed to do toe holds. My partner had never done a forward roll though, so I went over how to forward roll in general with out face planting, and also how to break fall and not have it hurt. As a result, we fell a little behind. We saw he third pass, but weren’t really able to drill it.
I rolled a little bit with Carlo but his ribs are injured so it was just light playful rolling.
