I “squat to a box” to gauge depth, as opposed to the “box squats” that Snapper does. Actually, now that I think on this, perhaps I should do box squats to improve my out-of-the-hole abilities.

Don’t really understand the BJJ, but I always expand my horizons over here.

I went to a tourment to watch and give some support on sat, and actualy learned a lot. It’s more than my thumbs can handle, so I’ll update on it at home.

Sunday - No Gi BJJ
It was the day after a tournament, so we addressed some questions from then.

How to deal with hips elevated in mount? Hickson escape

Defending the kimura from top of half guard? I didn’t really get the answer I wanted, he told us to hide the top arm and not let it get isolated, but sometimes it does. I’m not sure what to do when it does get isolated.

Then we drilled the omaplatta from closed guard. To pull the elbows forward I need to be more aware of my hand positions.

I rolled a bit with Cool Ethan, being tired from the wknd kinda got to me so it wasn’t anything noteable.

Out of the hole abilities… that sounds dirty too. I guess sex on the brain is a good moving on sign, huh?

Yeah, I know most of you don’t know what’s going on, but I actually have a blog that the guys are linked to, so they can comment on the BJJ. I put this in PW more for the emotions behind the moves. You guys don’t know how to escape mount, but you do know that feeling of ‘I will not let this guy beat me.’ I’m still really girly in my reactions, and that’s what I don’t really have a support system for.

There’s also that sporadic lifting and foods to comment on. You guys know all about that.

Good god, I sound pathetic.

ya, you should ‘Get a life.’

Have you seen the thread? It’s not that silly!

Hm…i see.

Your log seriously cracks me up. That pic of the dummies grappling is too funny!

Interesting stuff pch. Today I actually listened in on a lecture about MMA fighting and UFC (if that’s what its called). I know is not what you do, but this form of fighting often includes BJJ, no?

Anyways, its interesting.

I’ve severly reduced my posting/ lurking. It’s pretty much just TK and logs now. SAMA seems to just be 18yr olds, they’re pretty to look at, and post nice pictures, there aren’t really any interesting words coming from them. Combat is more about watching than doing, I tried to change it to no avail.

Hello again! So here’s the clip we watched at the lecture - had to track that sumbitch lecturer down to get it.

So basically, and please stop me if this is of no interest to you, the lecture touched on the idea that there’s this discussion b/w MMA and boxing about which sport is technical and which one is just entertainment. And the boxing camp touts that MMA is basically just fighting with little technical skill, while the MMA camp says boxing is a limited fighting sport.

Point is, this vid shows that there is serious technical shit going down. As you see, little white trunks is getting his ass handed to him by bigger yellow trunks, but then, BAM!, white trunks does this scissor kick and yellow trunks has no choice but to “tap-out”. Its pretty cool.

I got it off the internet, it’s easier than having to post ‘this is not me’ disclaimers.

I’m no expert, and my MMA knowledge is all second hand. They say to be good at MMA you have to have a good foundation of Muay Thai (kickboxing) for when you’re on the feet, Wrestling to be able to take them to the ground and prevent yourself from being taken down, and BJJ for when you’re on the ground. Basically, when they’re on the ground they want to use BJJ. While what I do doesn’t involve strikes, you can train your BJJ to keep yourself from taking hits that cause damage. Also, most submissions stem from jui jitsu.

We’ve established that I like cookies, so I’ve been experimenting with good cookie recipies. I think I’ve found one that’s vegan, and contains no refined flours.

I got it from this site http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/nikkis-healthy-cookies-recipe.html i took the picture from her too.

Cookies!
3 large, ripe bananas, well mashed (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup coconut oil, barely warm - so it isn’t solid (or alternately, olive oil)
2 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup almond meal
1/3 cup coconut, finely shredded & unsweetened
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon fine grain sea salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 - 7 ounces chocolate chips or dark chocolate bar chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, racks in the top third.

In a large bowl combine the bananas, vanilla extract, and coconut oil.
Set aside. In another bowl whisk together the oats, almond meal,
shredded coconut, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder. Add the dry
ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined. Fold in
the chocolate chunks/chips.The dough is a bit looser than a standard
cookie dough, don’t worry about it. Drop dollops of the dough, each
about 2 teaspoons in size, an inch apart, onto a parchment (or Silpat)
lined baking sheet. Bake for 12 - 14 minutes.

The totals for the whole batch are P/F/C/Ca; 98.9/247.7/186.6/2844 I made about 20 cookies, but they should be much smaller. My per cookie is 5/12.4/9.3/142.2[/quote]

I made these cookies again, but I swapped out some dry cranberries for the chocolate. They turned out even better than before and has less calories. New cookies are 2/9.9/4/81.7

This is actually a super awesome clip. That submission is nearly impossible to get.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how the discussion goes. Everyone think their sport is better and requires more technique and work. Both require technique and strength, and they’re sports so of course they’re entertainment. Boxing is a limited fighting sport. You’re only allowed to do a limited number of things, and it’s not like a real fight. In a real fight people are going to take you down and kick you in the head. Which shows that MMA isn’t a real fight either. Well, at least the UFC isn’t since there are rules like no soccer kicks to the head. For almost no rules, look at early Japanese fights. Some of those head stomps are brutal.

The idea that MMA requires little technical skill is bullshit. Are there pro fighters with little technical skill? Yes, but they tend to suck. If you want to be amazing you have to know what you’re doing. Otherwise being a black belt wouldn’t matter.

I haven’t lifted in a week. When I have to choose between BJJ and the gym I pick BJJ.

Monday in BJJ.

We continued with the theme of things that went wrong during the tournament. One of those things was people stalling in mount. Once someone mounts you they can just hang out and ride out the clock. It’s not something we encounter during rolling in class since we don’t really roll for time. Waiting out the clock doesn’t make sense when your goal is to win by submission.

I worked with a newer white belt, and got kinda frustrated with him. I could feel myself getting cranky, but couldn’t completely hold it back. He didn’t understand how to take mount, so it was hard to drill how to escape it. Also, we were transitioning into side control and I could clearly see I was hurting him, but every time I asked if he was okay he would just say yes. A part of me wanted to crush him more to make him say it hurt. I don’t know I didn’t go to class that cranky, I just felt mean. Also, he kept accidentally pulling my hair. It added to wanting to just completely break his ribs.

In class we drilled catching the bottom leg when he tries to go to mount. Then if he actually gets mount, making the elbow escape instinct. If you don’t elbow escape in time, you do the Hickson escape. If he goes to mount, but you feel him take his weight off the bottom leg, sweep him over.

After drilling I rolled with Noah for a bit. I can’t let that guy get on top anymore, once he has a chance to put his weight on me I feel like all I do is play defense. It fucking sucks.

Then I rolled with Chuck. He’s better than me, but is really good about using technique not strength. He dominated the whole match, and I was playing defense the whole time. I didn’t feel too bad at the end though, because throughout the match I wanted to give up and just tap, but I didn’t. I didn’t roll that well, but I did stick with it through the suck.

Mikey watched the Chuck debacle and so I asked him for tips. Its really evident that I don’t want my ribs crushed, and like I’ve said previously it hinders how I roll. So, Clark talked to me a bit about how to be on my side without hearing ribs crunching. It’s a lot like opening the guard, you have to have your elbow at the top of their knee. It’s something I’m going to play with.

The single biggest factor in determining how I eat is planning. I haven’t planned lately, so I haven’t eaten well. I planned a planning day yesterday. Geesh, that’s what I’ve had to come to.

Anyway, I cooked, and planned. For the next week I’ll be having:

Hard Boiled Eggs
Oatmeal
MD
Vegan Cookies
Quiche
Chili
Fiber
Fish Oil
Ants on a Log

It comes to about 2,000 calories.

what no green eggs and ham?

I could not, would not, in a house.
I would not, could not, with a mouse.
I would not eat them with a fox.
I would not eat them in a box.
I would not eat them here or there.
I would not eat them anywhere.
I would not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

That flying scissor heel hook clip was awesome!

Poor little white belt guy didn’t want to admit that a girl was hurting him. Glad you kicked his ass a little. I wish I had that outlet on my cranky, mean days.

Good job planning your eats - that’s always the toughest part for me, too.

I’ll play catch up later, but for today.

I did things I hate

5x
5 Pushups
15 Box Jumps
20 sec planks

Then things I like

3x
5 1 arm DB Snatches
5 BW rows

So, it’s only 3 because while I was snatching some squat rack curler guy started fiddling with the smith machine. I looked at him and felt hate and said ‘I’m using that.’ He’s like ‘I just one to show her some things.’ At which point I decide to both display my irritation and help her. So,

Me- What’re you trying to show her

Him- How to squat, she’s a beginner.

Me- Oh, you shouldn’t use the smith machine. It’s going to teach her improper movement patterns.

Him - Just until she gets used to squating and can do real ones.

Me- She can use the light body bars or BW to learn.

Her - What does she mean real ones.

Him - Oh over there in that thing (points to squat rack).

Me - If you’re trying to get better atereal squats, shouldn’t you just actually do real squats.

Her - She’s making a lot of sense, why aren’t you showing me real squats? I think I should do real squats.

Him - Uh, I just Uh, okay.

Then they walked away to the squat rack. I got to make him look stupid and my machine back, all while helping a girl actually squat. Awesomes.

I’ve been playing with this at the end of my first back workout of the week, it’s similar to the shoulder blast but with cables.

Pch - that took balls. I usually ignore the idiots in the smith unless someone actually asks for my opinion.

Most of you aren’t in the TK threads, but I’m an angry emotional mess. On Wends, I met the girl Dallas has been dating. It turns out all of that neglect was because he was paying attention to someone else. He just didn’t have the balls to end it. It’s made me wonderfully volatile. It’s not so hard to have balls when you just don’t give a fuck.

Wends
I fell apart, though I didn’t think I was capable of segmenting more.

Thursday
I decided that if I’m going to feel emotionally broken I should be physically too. Also, if I’m totally drained, I can actually sleep. So, I did a spin class. It’s been a while, so it took a little to get back in the groove.

Then BJJ
We did a take down that involved getting a lapel and a cat claw grip, then kicking a leg out and ankle tapping.

Then with the same grips we sat to open guard, depending on how they defended we triangled or arm barred.

I didn’t roll, when you’re feeling crushed, someone actually crushing you is unbearable.

Friday
BJJ open mat

We drilled a little, then rolled a little.
I still need to be better at opening, though I do have the hip pain point down.
I really need to work on my triangle defense.
I basically just got owned the whole time, but what’s new?
