Maybe it’s just a fashion thing that I am not understanding or people are seriously not in touch with reality. There is a reason why I prefer not to wear a “tank top” and it seems the way I feel about it obviously doesn’t apply to everybody else. Unless you have worked hard enough to have a lot to show, by all means, wear a tight fitting shirt and show what you have worked for. The “tank top” should be reserved for someone that has enough muscle to impress, this “fashion item” just doesn’t look good on someone with an OK physique or someone with no muscle at all.
The reality of the situation is that 90% of the young men in the “tank top” community have an average body weight of 165 pounds. Wearing this item will immediately allow them to bench 400 pounds and instantaneously lads pop out like a chicken trying to take off on a windy day. This is normally accompanied by a thick attitude and undying desire to test your patience, especially in the gym. Things have really changed, when I was younger I remember the days when I greeted everyone before I started training in the gym. It seems that respecting other people isn’t needed anymore?
We don’t need creatine, test, protein, Surge or any other product!!!
I am not a fan of PDTP (Public Display of Tank Tops)neither on little fellas weighing in at 150 nor meat heads with 20 inch arms.
It is for those who wish to be on display like someone buying a bright yellow Hummer. They only bought that color so it stands out. I think the modest person with 20 inch arms wearing a collared T-shirt with sleeves is far more impressive. Look at old photos of Arnold and Sergio. Both are wearing sleeved shirts and look awsome.
I blame Marky Mark. He did the whole “tank top and basball cap” look for a long time. It looks “gangsta”. And the chicks love a guy who looks thuggish and hard, and the other guys are all scared of him. “Don’t mess with that guy! He will kick your ass! He’s a thug!”
I knew a guy like that. He was like 150 pounds, and wore a black tank top and baggy jean shorts. He looked silly, the upper half of him was skinny like a toothpick, then the bottom half was all baggy and large.
Yeah, tank top to look like a thuggish ruggish gangsta! It’s all these skinny white boys! They listen to too much rap music, and it affects their thinking. Then they wear FUBU and Sean John jeans, and medium sized tank tops, and think they are “hard”. Ugh. What an ugly sub-culture.
I blame the hip-hop prison culture for this silliness. Now, when I go out and see a group of these wannabe thugs, they all stand around and mad dog everyone that walks by, you know? Scowling at everyone, wearing jeans that are way too big, and a tank top that is too small and a cut little barb wire tattoo around the 12 inch biceps…
It isn’t intimidating at all! I think it is soooooo cute! Oh, cute little white boys! WIll you ever learn?
If you’re not playing basketball, don’t wear a tank top. If you’re one of those 150 lb guys, don’t wear one. If you’re actually pretty big, you don’t need to wear one.
I’ve seen some big guys in my day, and they don’t need to wear tank tops to impress.
Wear a tank top if your arms do not fit in the sleeves. But then again, if your arms do not fit but your torso does, you probably have a body proportion problem. Or, you are a frat curler wearing tiny clothes.
I wear tank tops when I go work out. Also, I don’t go home and change if I have errands to do afterwards. I’m not big by any means but I don’t see a problem wearing a tank top. They are very comfortable. Don’t get wrong, I wouldn’t wear one on a date. If I’m dressing comfortable, then it’s a pair of warm ups and a tank top.

Thank you. This topic has come up several times and the point of it is: when it’s hot a tank top is fine. When you work out it is fine. Unless it is stained, ragged, or otherwise better suited to be a dust rag, it is fine. There is no law or code of ethics that says a tank top is taboo if you’re not muscular. So those that aren’t ripped don’t look good in them. That’s their problem. Why let it bother you?
