Taking Time Off (short term for recovery)

Interested in how others handle taking time off from training.

I usually train 5 days a week, taking the weekend off (but not exactly inactive). Taking the weekend off entirely after mostly a 6 day program for many years seems like heaven. Workouts include swimming, running in various ways, weights, body weight and core mixed up over the different days. I train about an hour to hour and a half per day.

I will finish a pretty intense 8 weeks of training and plan a week without any workout. I’ll be active, but no exercise for sake of exercising and most of activity is walking, swimming, just basically being awake. When the week is done, I will start another 8-12 weeks with a different program to maintain variety.
