It may just be me, but when I know the only time I can get to the gym on a given day is going to be during the busy time, I’ll adjust my workout accordingly - you can do a lot of exercises in a single cage if you put your mind to it - BB Upright Rows (Wide, Narrow), Chin ups, Pull Ups, BB Curls (Under/Overhand).
…and there really isn’t anything more frustrating than hoping for a big squat set and finding a gaggle of hair-gelled guys curling in my beloved squat rack.
it helps to be friends with the useful personal trainers (ie. the ones that a) actually know their shit, b) don’t recommend dodgy exercises and c) have heard of T-Nation). Just ask them to tie up some equipment for ya and it’ll be done like that hahaha.
“Glare allot more and wear chucks”…I remember reading that here on T-Nation once…hahaha
I hear ya man. Luckily my schedule lets me work out at off times in the gym, but I still don’t superset as much as I’d like. Basically no one uses the power rack, which is great, so I can set up shop there and go about my business. Sometimes it’s hard to find room to do deads thought.
If you’re at a commercial gym, I personally think it’s wrong to tie up multiple machines.
Just take your DBs over to one machine. That’s yours.
If you don’t like it, buy your own gym.
Just my opinion. But feel pretty strongly about it.
If it’s a crowded time especially then I don’t see how you can justify 2 machines or more. Sure you’re training is important, but everyone else has paid the same price to be there. Everyone should get a fair go.

Finally a voice of reason.
U yanks may do things different but if i or someone else decided to hog 2,3 even 4 pieces of equipment u would get your head punched in.
I think it plain rude to hog so many pieces of equipment when the gym is busy.
If your at a crowded gym do fuckin STRAIGHT SETS or work in with other people.Save your little supersets etc for home or when gym is less crowded.

One of my buddies jsut walks around looking furiouse ALL THE TIME, people get out of his way, it helps that hes big, and makes a lot of noise.
I’v also used the tactic of pointing at a pice of equipment or bench and just being like “I’M USING THAT,” or walking up to people benching and saying, “I need to bench,” the usually forefie the bench.
You might get a rep for being a ass, but hey, you’re not there to make freinds, and any guys there who don’t mind your tactics ar probably good prospective training partners.[/quote]
I was just gonna say that. At my gym, people tend to try to talk to me alot. To avoid that, I just give nods as hellos (no words) and have a mean face. People around walking move out of the way and make a clear path. It’s convinient and avoids chitchat. It works best with older unfit men (office guys).
