T-Nation's Ideal Weight

I was looking at some of the health and fitness sites and came across an ideal weight calculator. Is it just me or are these things WAY off?

My stats:
Current Weight: 207 lbs
Height: 6 ft
Bodyfat %: Probably somewhere between 13-15%
Age: 24
Male

According to the ideal weight calculator, I should weigh 178?! I haven’t weighed that much since middle school. So, what do you think a T-Man’s ideal weight should be (according to height)?

Here’s a link to an ideal weight calulator:

I think that is the body mass index. I don’t think this can apply to someone who trains and has alot of muscle mass.

The military uses a similar body weight index. These are for people who do not weight train. At 5’8 I was only allowed to weigh a maximum of 184 and I weigh about 220. They would then use a crude body fat% measurement (waist size minus neck size) and as long as you were under 23% you passed.

dont worry about how much you weigh. Decide what your goal is (lower BF, gain mass etc, then set a goal for your BF percentage, and lean mass. use the mirror and measurments to track your progress forget about what the scales says, unless it factors in lean muscle mass and hydration level the scale is worth nothing, and any cheap bioeletrical impendance scale wont tell you much either. I used to be concerned about my body weight on the bathroom scale…not anymore.

Whatever he wants to weigh, at whatever body fat % he wants.

hehe,

if you think you look good and are happy with it, why bother about what other people think is ideal… what’s YOUR ideal?

i’ve never relied on weight as an indicator of good health… rather take a good critical look at myself in the mirror.

if you’re worried about health issues, get a blood test and a physical to check the interior condition of your body.

ok… I’m at 173 pounds right now and that thing says I should be at 158-162… no thanks, I prefer not to look ‘heroin chic’

That weight calculator is way cool; most calculators tell you that you’re supposed to weigh much less than that.

Either weight calculators are taking the possibility of muscle mass into account, or they’re lowering the standards. Hmmm, I wonder which it is…

For me the ideal weight is 77kg.

I don’t really worry about my weight concerning the ideal weight calculator. I was just wondering if it was as out of whack for everybody else.

I’ve always been pretty big, so I think if I get down to 190, I should be pretty shredded. On another note, is it possible to gain weight while cutting? I’m taking in less calories than my maintenance level. Can I be building muscle on a low cal diet?

It says on that site that the calculation is based on BMI, which I think we all know is not exactly the best indication of what you should weigh. Calculators like that are really kinda funny…I’ve never found one that didn’t tell me I was unhealthy. If your bf% is where you want it, who cares what anyone else’s calculations say? :o)

few institutions in the US that haven’t accepted the errors of the BMI and adopted new guidelines
(correct me if I am really wrong)

the US Armed Forces
most proffessional Fire Departments
Life Insurance providers
