I just read the body mass index and for 5’10 weight ranges from 140-180lbs. Healthwise assuming my bodyfat is low, i’m constantly exercising, and eating right. Is there a side effect for going over the BMI? To me somebody that is 200 but muscle seems health but somebody 200 at that hieght mostly fat seems unhealth.
I’m just concern one for health reasons secondly I was thinking of maybe getting up to that weight in the future if it’s safe because 180 just doens’t seem like it’s the desired size I want to sculpt myself for performance as well as looks.
I’ll say this, if you are a weight training male and you aren’t considered overweight/obese by the BMI you probably are doing some things wrong haha. Get regular blood work and health screenings done and you’ll be fine.
If you’re truly worried about it just go get some heart tests run and check and see. I’m 200 lbs at 5’10" but the doctors say I’m healthy as a horse and I’m definitely not obese. If the skinny lil government officials want to call me obese I’ll just pull their arms out of their sockets. We’ll see who is right then…

I’m gonna second that, I’m categorised as being obese but I have a 33’ waist…
Look at it this way. I’m 5’9" at 240 pounds, or I was 30 days ago, with about 30-40%bf and I had zero problems on a stress test I did this year. I also have a yearly physicall because of my job and I’ve never had a problem there either.
The BMI chart has never been something that I look at as a goal setter.

If the BMI calculator you’re using doesn’t have an input for waist size, find one that does. Most of T-Nation will be calculated as overweight or obese due to our muscle mass.

30 to 40% bodyfat?[/quote]
If you believe those scales that some how tell you your BF%, yeah.
Trust me, I’m working it all off right now. I’ve had people tell me I look thinner and I had to tighten my duty belt a few times this last month.
BMI is total bullshit,it doesn’t take into account fat% nor bone structure.
For example : a guy with a large/stocky frame will be classified as obese using BMI.
