SWR's Fat-Loss Log (22 Weeks)

Yup, 3 weeks down, and the hardest part is behind me already.

I feel real good about setting this goal, where I was a bit apprehensive at first, and a little scared after the 3rd or 4th day of the V-Diet. <:-0

Now I feel good, and don’t really get hungry at all anymore.

I try to make sure my body gets the signal that it needs to keep it’s muscle by lifting with a lot of intensity, but try not to over-do it.

Rockscar is right, I shouldn’t worry too much about the weight, but if I lose too much strength, I’ll know I’m losing too much muscle and will have to adjust. It’s too early to adjust now since this Velocity Diet is a kick-start to another diet.

I’m feeling good today.

45 minutes of uphill walking on the treadmill.

Hey SWR was checking out your pictures, looking beastly. Got the power lifter abs like me through the little fat in the abdomen.

Keep it up!

Thanks man.

I think I had quite a bit of visceral fat under my abs. The good news is that I heard it’s easier to get rid of than outer belly fat (don’t know why though).

Should all be gone soon (I hope).

I’ve been following your progress in your thread. Great job, and congrats with your strength gains and fat loss.

SWR,
How much cardio are you doing? Intensity, duration, type, etc?

Great thread!

I’ve been walking on an inclined treadmill for 30-45 minutes on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (skipped one Sunday so far though).

I usually set the incline somewhere between 6.0 and 7.0, and keep the speed around 3.4 - 3.6 mph.

I’ll be maintaining my low-intensity cardio for the 8 weeks following the V-Diet (as per CT’s training outline from his ebook).

Then the 10 weeks after that I’ll be adding interval sprints of 30sec. fast, 60sec. jog for about 15 minutes 3 days a week (on their own day), while keeping the low intensity cardio 2 days a week (on training days, after training).

Just popping in to make sure you’re still on the wagon.

The horses tell me it’s easier to pull it now

Oh yea. I can now say I lost 20lbs so far, instead of “almost 20lbs”.

I can’t wait to start CT’s program that’s outlined in his and Anthony Roberts’ ebook.

Now the only thing I’m contemplating is whether or not to go into a nice, long term bulk with size as a primary goal, or to train strictly for strength/PL.

I know either one will bring the other along with it, but since I’m going to end up lighter than the weight class that I ultimately plan to compete in, I’m really considering continuing on with CT’s guidelines in the ebook, and building a significant amount of muscle before going straight back into powerlifting training.

I’m one of those who believes there shouldn’t be as much separation between bodybuilders and powerlifters as there seems to be.

I understand their differences, but also their similarities. That’s why I like this site so much.

I’m also realising that I can take my time to do it right, instead of constantly worrying about competing right away, before I reach some significant goals that I have set.

Today’s workout-

A1) Deads 8X3 365lbs (was supposed to be 10X3)
A2) Mil Press 135lbs 6X3, 1X2; 115lbs 1X3

B1) DB Flys 50lbs 3X8
B2) DB Curls 30lbs (9, 10)

C1) Skull Crushers 105lbs (10, 8, 6)
C2) Hanging Pikes BW (8, 6, 5)

Felt real out of it by my 7th set of 10X3 with deads and mil presses. So drained that I considered stopping and not even doing my other exercises.

I did one more set of each and took a break for about 10 minutes, then continued on.

Flys felt good, curls felt surprisingly good (liked the feel of an isolation exercises for a change).

I’m going to rest for a while now.

Last week before I get to eat real food all the time. 3 more days of shakes, then one day with one good, solid meal, then next Monday I start Phase 10 of the Jekyll/Hyde routine.

impressive DL numbers

I’m with you on this. I want to look good nekkid, of course, but my goals at the gym aren’t “21 inch arms”, but rather “225lb F squat, 405lb DL and 100lb DB benchpress, all for 5 reps”. I’m close, and I’m sure when I get there I’ll look much better than I did when I set these goals a year ago. And then, it’ll be time to set some new goals.

I suppose you like Johnnie Jackson, huh?

Decisions, decisions…

I am now faced with a dilema. My full-body workouts are at an end, and Monday I start an upper/lower split, and Monday just so happens to be a lower body, quads dominant day.

I don’t really like sacrificing the intensity of my workout, but with the way my squat has been dropping, and the tiredness I’ve been feeling (particularly today), AND considering that my volume will increase quite a bit on Monday, I’m thinking of taking it easy tonight.

I’ll lower the weight with everything, but I’m not sure how much I should lower it.

Also, I won’t really feel like I will have earned my Surge. I mean, my body might not need it as much if I’m not really pushing it that hard, and with the low calories that I’ve been taking in, I don’t want to risk having my body jump at the chance of storing the carbs as fat because my metabolism would be even slower than usual.

I guess I’ll figure it out when I’m at the gym.

hmmmmm…

Felt weak and tired all day today.

Kept trying to make excuses to use today as just a cardio day, and do today’s workout tomorrow, but I’d rather have 2 days away from weights before starting the new workout, instead of just one day.

Workout:
A)Squats 255lbs 2X8

B1) DB Bench 85lbs (10, 7)
B2) DB Rows 85lbs (10, 5)

that’s all…

I feel for you. Just completed my fifth week of Art of Waterbury last friday, which had me up to 9x6 on pistols (I switched those for hack squats, because I have an achilles tendon issue which doesn’t let me do bilateral squat work-working on it though), power cleans, and incline bench.

Add 10x3 for 6 exercises on monday and sprint work, and Wednesday, I was dead. I did some high rep work (12-15 without going to failure).

Point I’m trying to make is, too much volume with high intensity will have you burnt out pretty quick, especially on something like the V-Diet. So, if you’re really burnt out, don’t take a day off, but try having a day where you really just work for the pump and add some isolations. It works wonders after high intensity compounds.

You’re really doing great, you might even be challenging the all-time 28 day record. Keep it up!

SWR,

I just started the Velocity Diet. You, along with Dan John, were part of the reason why I decided to do it. And right now, I think that you’re both bastards! But seriously, your comments on the Cheaters Diet hit home. I guess I’m too carb sensitive to introduce carbs to my system because once I started eating carbs on the carb up days, I had trouble stopping. This isn’t really a slam on the diet - my wife and I were both doing it and she has had fantastic results, but then again, she can handle carbs very well, at least much better than I can. So I’m in on the Velocity thing. I’ll be watching your log here and commiserating and learning how you come off the V-Diet. Good luck.

Yea, I hear ya on being overly carb sensitive. My wife is also doing the Cheater’s Diet with great success. She likes that she can eat rice while on it.

I’ll be coming off of the V-diet with another diet consisting of around 2130 calories, whereas on the V-diet I’m getting between 1400-1700 calories depending on if it’s a workout day or not. (I can’t believe I’ve been eating that little these past 27days!!!)

So that’s a 430-730 calorie increase, but I’m pretty sure I’ll still be below maintenance with that amount, and I’m sure I’ll be loving the increase.

Tomorrow is my last 1 clean meal day, and the last day of the Velocity Diet! Woo Hoo!

Weighed in at 172 this morning (after peeing).

I took update pics, so here they are…

I don’t have time to edit them into side by side comparisons yet since we’re getting ready to go EAT!

Edit:
Okay, I had time to edit the pics, so instead of uploading another picture, I’m uploading the side-by-side comparison pic in place of the pic I had up here in this post.

This is me, 195lbs to 172lbs.

Probably at least 5-7lbs of water/glycogen weight, maybe more, maybe less who knows.

And here is a front comparison from 8/05/06 to 10/01/06.

Seeing these pics make me feel small.

I will continue with my plans to lose more fat of course, but I have a feeling my bulk afterwards will be very long-term (albeit, gradual).

Great Work SWR! You have done well and stuck with it so far. keep up the good work…
