Swimming Endurance

I just joined a year round swim team and my
endurance is really bad. I’ve just started squatting, but why do I not feel it helping at all? What exercises can I do to help me build up some endurance?

Probably because squatting doesnt have a direct correlation of helping swimming.

Endurance is muscle endurance, and cardio. If you want muscle endurance, you should probably stick to high rep, fast paced type workouts. Cardio, well… that depends on what events you’re swimming. A short sprint swim you could probably do HIIT to benefit for, while if its longer you could do longer lower intensity cardio.

Oh, I hear actually swimming helps when it comes to being a better swimmer.

I used to be a distance swimmer, so let me add this:

  1. You want to swim faster, do tricep press downs, chin-ups, shrugs, and anything that will make your upper back stronger.

  2. Lift weights and swim. You want to swim distance fast, you have to train fast. Do lots of sprints.

  3. Get someone to help you with your stroke.
